Additional info & updates

Worked full-time while pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees
In grad school pursuing an MBA
Crappy Undergraduate GPA partially due to coping with loss of a child back in 2001. I should have graduated in 2002. I did my final semester in 2007. So, I am a recent grad, but I have been out of school since 2001.
Six years of professional work experience.

My first rejection letter...University of Miami. That sucks; they're like a couple of blocks away.
Happy to be waitlisted at Washburn. I like the site and what the school has to offer.

Rejected at GSU and Lewis and Clark. That hurts. Hurts a lot.

3/11/09...Probably dumb of me considering it's late in the game but I just submitted apps to Nova and Loyola NO. And to Gonzaga and Franklin Pierce. So late in the game and I fear I'm just throwing money away.

3/23/09...Appalachian gave me not a rejection not an acceptance but a place in their summer program. $200 due by April first and entire program lasts for about a month at a cost of $1500. Oh and there is no guarantee of a spot even if I do well.

3/24/09...Seems like Hofstra made a decision. I wish I knew what it was. My status in the status checker is now blank. I have yet to receive any further info.

3/31/09...Still nothing from Hofstra. Hamline rejected me.

4/1/09... Seems like I should be getting decisions from U North Dakota and Seattle U soon. Seattle finally sent me a status checker link and it says decision pending since 2/11. My app at UND is with committee for review.

4/7/09...Hofstra's rejection letter was a bit thick, I thought to myself. However, it wasn't a rejection but a personalized, thoughtful waitlist letter. I intrigued them. Yay. I just hope no one else received the same letter because it made me feel so special. :)

4/8/09...Tulane says a decision was made and the letter was sent out today. Now I have more anxiety for the upcoming weekend.

4/9/09...Rejected at FIU. Don't they realize I'm kicking ass in their MBA program? Oh well, I have 30 days to write a letter petitioning them to reconsider. I need that in-state tuition.

4/13/09...Rejection letter from Tulane. Oh, rejection from Gonzaga too.

4/14/09...Rejection from Brooklyn Law. I kinda don't care anymore. I'm gonna ride it out. I'm graduating with an MBA; let's see if that will do anything for me this summer. Ha.

4/16/09...Rejected at Seattle. Phhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaqqqqqqq.

4/22/09...Well, it seems that both University of North Dakota and Samford University have made their decisions. I'm pretty much numb to this waiting game but I am still pretty anxious to see what they have to say.
NYLS says "Denied."

4/22/09...Nova status checker says decision has been reached. Their correspondence says they send via email. Can someone confirm this?

4/24/09...Accepted at Nova.
4/25/09...Waitlisted at Samford. Nice.

5/4/09...UF made a decision but it's been a week since they claimed to have mailed the letter and I still haven't received anything. I think I'm going to North Dakota. I've done a lot of research and I think other than the below 0 temperatures I would like it there.

5/5/09...Rejected as expected from UF. I kinda don't care about the rest of the Tier 4 expensive schools I applied to. Sigh. ND here I come I guess.

5/13/09...Just got Loyola's letter confirming that I'm waitlisted. Further, I have been invited to participate in their summer program. Only $75 for the month but I have to quit work, miss my last two weeks of MBA program, and pray that I can afford to live with no income for the month and pass the three courses. Decisions, decisions.

5/14/09...Accepted to Franklin Pierce Law Center via email. Yay. I seriously don't get it, my numbers suck. Must be that Personal Statement.

5/18/09...Rejected from CWSL. Finally got acceptance letter from Franklin Pierce. They gave me a $10K scholarship renewable every year. Loyola hasn't been really good at responding to inquiries. I think I'm about to tell 'em to f*** off.

Thanks for the encouraging words and advise... I'm taking another diagnostic this weekend to see if I'm improving any and if not I may have to opt in for a prep course which I was hoping not to do ;-).

hey man

I wish you the best of luck in this process. What is your first choice? I look forward to hearing from you.

Wow, you are very inspirational, don't give up! Every now and then we have set backs but your drive and determination is what sets you apart and make you uniquely you. I encourage you to interview with loyola (that's what i did) and tell them your story in full detail, hardly any law school interview so if you have that opportunity take FULL ADVANTAGE! ; ) Imma keep you on my radar and I pray that u get in. We need more black males in the profession..

Well, I'm not sure. UMKC would prob be best b/c it's only 20 min away from where I live. I did my undergrad there and wouldn't have to move. However, I would chose Washburn over UMKC if distance wasn't an issue. But, if I get a full ride to OCU it would be hard to say no to that. I applied for another scholarship to OCU. I'm not sure when I'll find out if I got it or not, though, so...it's a complete toss up. When UMKC WL me, they said I could get off the WL as early as May or as late as August. Just depends on when another applicant decides to reject their offer of admission. Sucks.

Washburn

Congrats on the Washburn waitlist! That is a really good school. I have lived in Kansas my whole life and it is very well respected in this region. I see you have a ton of schools yet to hear from. Good luck on your apps!

Hofstra

Its not too late to apply to FAMU. You should def give them a try.

FIU
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

Sorry about FIU, I feel ya on the in state tuition...did you consider St. Thomas?

Monday, March 16 2009 at 08:00 PM

Seeing your profile for the first time. You sould have applied to Southern and some of the other school I applied to. Southern is quietly putting out lawyers making money... Plus it's 12grand a year and open its doors in 1947. I love FAMU but if nothing changes I'll be in Baton Rouge. Holla at me.

Congrats...

on ND!!!

MBA
Sunday, April 19 2009 at 08:00 PM

If you do decide to do the program you should request independent study for the last to months of MBA courses or an incomplete so you don't have to pay for the courses again.

Friday, February 27 2009 at 07:00 PM

Have you decided where you are going? I'd go with Nova, since I see you are in Miami. I went to their law school graduation in early May and it was really nice, the professors seemed very warm, not what you are used to seeing at law schools. Good Luck!

UND
