Scholarships are total for all 3 years.

10/13 - last LOR made it to LSAC and UVA is the first to notify me of a complete app. This is all moving pretty quickly now! To apply or not to apply to Iowa, that is the question...

10/15 - Okay, that's it. I'm done for now. I'm holding Iowa and Wake Forest in reserve in case things don't work out elsewhere, though I'd spend 30 minutes putting an app together if they sent me a fee waiver.

11/8 - I'm sure I went complete @ Indiana last month, but they don't notify you when you're complete, so I finally got restless and sent them an email. They responded & said I'm complete.

12/11 - first news of the cycle for me is that I'm deferred at UMinn. Sigh.

1/12 - The long night is over, and my first acceptance is...BYU!

1/13 - Two great days in a row - IU Bloomington via priority mail w/ $$$

1/16 - Call this morning from Dean of Admissions at Minnesota; they liked my letter of continuing interest and I'm accepted! $8k/yr.

I've also come to grips with the reality that the email a couple weeks ago from Michigan was really a notice of deferral. I guess I'm okay with that, considering the developments of the last few days. :0)

1/25 - after I struggled mightily for weeks to get a dean's certificate to them, W&L rewarded my efforts by calling me with an acceptance only 24 hours after my file went complete. :0)

1/29 - Utah via phone!

2/10 - W/L'd at Duke, withdrew the same day. You're welcome!
Also rec'd a VERY generous scholarship offer from W&L. I'll be paying them a visit for sure!

2/15 - I will not be sending in the form to Vandy so I'll drop of their waitlist too. Again, you're welcome!

I asked my Magic 8 Ball if UVA would reject me next week and it answered, "Signs Point to Yes."

3/2 - Sweet! Minnesota wants me more than they did yesterday!!!

3/12 - Minnesota called & talked to my wife today and told her they love me even more than they did on 3/2! I think I love them too.

3/28 - So I called W&M a couple weeks ago telling them that I would be in VA visiting W&L and that I would visit them if I were accepted but they hadn't got around to it yet. They said they'd let me know of their decision then asked me if W&L had offered a scholarship. Yes, I answered, a big one. Apparently too big for W&M. I predict that they have overshot and will have trouble filling their class.

4/13 - I sent in my deposit at W&M. Minnesota just called and told me they've increased my scholarship offer another $3k a year. BYU's offering $4500/yr.

4/20 - Okay, so I changed my mind. Minnesota it is!

You should consider applying to Northwestern. Word on the street is they love work experience.

Thanks for all the PS help...

and good luck this cycle! I'm sure you're going to get into a lot of your schools. I agree about Northwestern. You stand a great chance with your LSAT and work experience.

Good luck!

Good luck on your cycle. I think you have a great shot at each of those schools. How'd you get the fee waiver from Utah? They're stingy with those.

Thanks for the comment! Utah was coming to a law fair at ASU and sent me an email beforehand asking me to stop by their table for a fee waiver. It was very nice of them, and in the process their Dean of Admissions Reyes Aguilar convinced me to apply.

(forgot I wasn't logged in with my last response...let me try again) Hey good luck this cycle. I'm thinking you'll nail most of these places. And I'd add Iowa (to answer your question): Iowa City would be a good place for a family, and its relatively cheap. Why not Colorado or Illinois as well?

I considered Illinois, but in the end I didn't think my family would be happy there. Re: Iowa, I just thought 10 schools was enough. I hope I don't rue that opinion!

5 same schools

We've applied to 5 of the same schools and have similar numbers. I'll be watching you! Sorry about Minnesota. I'm sure you'll have a great cycle nevertheless. Good luck! -siguradam

congrats!

Hi, You mentioned that you sent a letter of continuing intrest to UMN after you were deferred. Did you just send the letter to the admissions office address, and did you get any sort of confirmation that they had recieved it? Any advice for someone who is also hoping to get accepted from the deferred pool (although with not as nice of an LSAT as you...) Thanks! Molly

I just got a deferral letter from Minnesota...what'd you say in your letter of continuing interest that convinced them to accept you?

You know It
Wednesday, July 12 2006 at 08:00 PM

Thanks, Man. Yeah I think we all know where I'm headed :) So are you actively pursuing a waitlist-admit from Duke? i.e. keeping up with all the letters and staying in touch... or, are you happy with Minnesota at this point?

I'd look at your profile before and it seemed as if you were leaning toward UMN; what made you choose W&L over them? Was it just the money? Also, did you visit UMN? If so, what did you think of the school and the city of Minneapolis?

indomitable cannot follow directions.
