Additional info & updates

Boston College - WL: Thin letter, Acceptance: Email (not really an acceptance....just asked if I was still interested, which I'm gonna call an acceptance because I think they probably would have accepted me had I said 'yes')
Columbia - Thin letter
Georgetown - Thin letter, scholarship info came separately
Harvard - Email deferral, thin letter rejection
NYU - Large folder-containing envelope
Northwestern - Hold: Email w/ link to PDF, Acceptance: Email w/ notice of admission + link to PDF of official letter
Stanford - Thin envelope (w/ window!)
Berkeley - 8:30am phone call
Chicago - 9:00am phone call
Michigan - Large binder-containing envelope, scholarship info came 2 months later (no mention in initial acceptance package)
UPenn - 8:30am phone call
UVA - Thin letter. Scholarship came separate. It was a merit award, not a dean's scholarship. There was no mention of it in the initial acceptance packet.
Vanderbilt - Large envelope, scholarship info came separately
WUStL - Large envelope, scholarship info came separately
Yale - Thin letter, very thin.

Michigan - Went to ASW. Loved the facilities + faculty/staff + current & prospective students. Did not like Ann Arbor (too much like nasty ol' Provo). Would still have been extremely happy there.

Georgetown - Invitation to apply for Dean's scholarship in Feb. Denied dean's scholarship soon thereafter. Wrote letter of continued interest in late March (w/ mention of Michigan Dean's Scholarship for leverage). Given merit scholarship in early April w/ one-week acceptance deadline. Made a quickie visit. Liked the school & liked DC. Sent in acceptance day after i got back.

~The end~

Looking at my numbers, I think my cycle was more or less predictable.
On a personal level, I give it a B+...had a nice twist at the end, which gave me one last jolt of excitement. On a more subjective level, I give it a C...very uninspired, no major suprises. It was strictly ho-hum.

I wouldn't recommend applying as early as i did (september/october)...gets you nowhere...except at the schools that have a first come, first served policy for handing out acceptances (NYU, Chicago...maybe a couple others).

And that's all I have to say.

if you don't mind remembering some painful memories... when and how did you hear from stanford? We have the same index score, so I can't help but feel I'm about to get the same story...

did they email you or anything letting you know that a decision was coming your way, or did you just get a surprise in your mailbox one day?

No warning, I just had it unceremoniously plopped in my lap right outta the blue.

thanks

I'm sorry to bring it all up again, but I really appreciate the info... like I said, it'll take me a while to get any mail from them, so the only thing I have to do is worry...

I know about you, Clean. We're head to head in adcom rooms across the country. There's only room for one BYU/ White/Asia enthusiast/ 171/3.75+ candidate at HLS, and it's going to be Me.

Waitlisted at BC? What's wrong with you?! You'll have to be welcomed with open arms at YLS to erase that blot.

That's an interesting idea. Silly me, I thought that if you were really overqualified and a school really wanted you, they'd offer you full tuition AND housing, like GW did for me.

I have no willpower!

I couldn't resist, and I hate that "what if" thought that inevitably comes up the day after the deadline passes. :-P I don't think I can make the Mich ASWs, the first one is during my Spring Break and I already have plane tickets, and the 2nd one is coming at a bad time (plus I'm already missing a lot of classes and can't afford to miss any more). I'm going to the Chicago ASW, though, are you??

Hey!
Monday, October 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on all your acceptances! What are you leaning towards now?

Well...
Monday, October 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

I'm still trying to figure that out.
