Extra Curricular Information

Facebook - founder of nine different groups, officer in three others.

Almost pledged a sorority once.

Theater - attended every play at my college while an undergrad.

International study - once ate cookies off a tray intended for students who were interested in a semester abroad.

Intramural Trivial Pursuit champion.

Published author - wrote articles and notes for numerous well-known electronic publishers, including Xanga, Fanfiction.net, Law School Discussion.org, and Wikipedia.

Library - have read numerous books, some of which had information about law.

Model - Miss September, Women of Westlaw Calendar, 2007. (I'm the one in the glasses looking up the annotated Internal Revenue Code.)

Special factors:

I know all the words to every Jason Mraz song.

I don't download illegal music.

I have been deferred to on points of theology by a Princeton classicist who was accepted to Yale Law School.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wrote a Why Michigan? and a Why Penn?

Maybe the holds are YP; I don't know.

The cycle is basically over now, so here's some real info:

Lots of debate awards, won a few tournaments.

Random campus involvement in band, theater, newspaper, student government. Nothing insanely special, though I did stay pretty busy for four years. No publications or anything like that.

Anyone who wants can read my PS. Just leave your email address on my wall.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other significant fee waivers: Northwestern, Cornell (really late), USC, UCLA, George Washington, Notre Dame, W&M

Additional info & updates

What a terrible thing it is to botch a farewell. I am a person who believes in form, in the harmony of order. Where we can, we must give things a meaningful shape. For example--I wonder--could you tell my jumbled story in exactly one hundred chapters, not one more, not one less? I'll tell you, that's one thing I hate about my nickname, the way that number runs on forever. It's important in life to conclude things properly. Only then can you let go. Otherwise you are left with words you should have said but never did, and your heart is heavy with remorse. - Yann Martel, Life of Pi, p. 285

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive at Admitted Students Weekend
And know the place for the first time.
Through the unknown, unremembered gate
When the last big envelope left to discover
Is that which was the beginning;
At the source of the largest scholarship
The voice of the hidden fee waiver
And the cost of living near the campus
Not known, because not looked for
But heard, half-heard, in the stillness
Between two pages of the viewbook.
Quick now, here, now, always
A condition of complete indebtedness
(Costing not less than ten years in BigLaw)
And all shall be well and
All manner of thing shall be well
When the tongues of flame are in-folded
Into the crowned knot of billable hours
And BigLaw and public interest are one.

-from Little Gidding, T.S. Eliot (adapted)

--------------------------------------

01/12 - Small envelope from Virginia. I'm adding a note here for anyone else watching and wanting to gauge their chances, because the letter said I am "in consideration for merit-based scholarship assistance and designation as a Dean's Scholar." Hope that works out, because I'd love to go to Virginia, especially with a good scholarship!

02/01 - Went to decision at Michigan. Will post here as soon as I know anything!

02/02 - Harvard phone call email.

02/03 - Michigan package arrived. Accepted!

02/05 - Went to decision at Georgetown.

02/05 - Held at Chicago. It's a real blow, because Chicago was my top choice. Oh well, I have a lot of other great options, and there is still hope.

02/06 - Harvard phone interview.

02/06 - Held at Columbia. I don't really understand what's going on here.

02/09 - Accepted at Georgetown with Dean's Scholarship invite.

02/12 - Held at Penn. I'm taking Jason Mraz's advice, looking on the bright side, and considering it a compliment.

02/13 - Accepted at Harvard. Short conversation... trying to figure out if I imagined it.

02/13 - Withdrawing from Columbia and Penn. Will think about Chicago a little bit more.

02/16 - Email from Chicago inviting me to interview.

02/17 - Harvard package arrived! I'm away at a tournament, so I haven't seen it yet. Update: Nice shiny red binder and directions on accessing my email account!

02/22 - Scholarship offer from UT.

02/24 - Michigan scholarship. Nice!

04/17 - Waitlisted at Chicago...

04/18 - Have withdrawn from everywhere but Harvard and Virginia. Visiting Harvard this weekend; fully expect to withdraw from Virginia on Monday and send a seat deposit to HLS.

04/22 - Just got back from Massachusetts. I liked HLS very much and have decided to attend!

04/25 - Mailed deposit to HLS!

Bad attitude
Saturday, September 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

You won't get in anywhere with an attitude like that. Listing your school type as "small private". Think you're some kind of comedian? It is NOT small! ...Oh, you meant *that* kind of private. Never mind. You rule. You'll even get into places you don't apply to.

Good luck to you too... You don't need to apply to LSU with those numbers. Thanks for the shoutout.

I hope you actually submitted the facebook group officerships...I considered putting "flanerie" as an interest on my resume for kicks.

Good job on not pledging a sorority, I've only founded one group on Facebook but it's anti-'greek'. Haha. Congrats on Baylor! ...but why would you want to go to school in Texas? :p

Just noticed
Tuesday, November 07 2006 at 07:00 PM

we're not applying to any of the same schools! Good luck!

i can't see you in boot camp
Tuesday, May 09 2006 at 08:00 PM

Thanks, Brit! Let's just keep crossing our fingers until we hear from that OTHER law school.

Thanks!

Thanks Brito! Now for that other school in New York...

Back atcha!
Friday, December 30 2005 at 07:00 PM

Hey Britomart! Congrats to you. Duke is a fantastic school, and that Baylor scholarship is impressive! Good luck on the rest of your apps, and I'll see you on LSD :)

Those are the BEST

Soft factors I've seen. Great stuff! It's funny...with your "complete" dates being what they are, I'd say a deluge of viewbooks/letters/$$$/etc. is headed your way over the next several weeks. ~Reach

your extra-curriculars are truly impressive!! :D And thanks, I hope NYU and CLS adcomms find my new LSAT worthy:)

i have to say..
Tuesday, December 26 2006 at 07:00 PM

..that i used to be a major lurker, and had a huuuuuge LSN-crush on your profile bc of its sheer hilarity. you, good woman, should get in everywhere bc you have a sense of humor, and lord knows lawyers need that. i'm crossing my fingers that you sweep! :) :) :)

oh and
Tuesday, December 26 2006 at 07:00 PM

...embarrasing confession: in a fit of library-induced craziness, i included in the 'miscellaneous & extra' section of my resume a one-line blurb on my reigning championship at a local diner for consuming an inordinate amount of pancakes. yeah. don't know why i felt the need to include that (it was right after languages spoken and belly-dancing, i wanted to end on a strong note!) ...and i still dont think that's as cool as your ECs :)

This proves...
Monday, July 31 2006 at 08:00 PM

...that schools look at ED applicants and then take off for all of winter break. Seriously, you should have more than 2 acceptances! You're a lock for UT unless they do a mean yeild-protect because of being non-resident. You'll show them though and end up at a T4! Good luck!

Re:
Monday, May 01 2006 at 08:00 PM

Thanks, Britomart! Good luck on the rest of your applications! Maybe you answered this somewhere else, but why didn't you apply to Yale? BTW, this profile is awesome!

Re:
Monday, May 01 2006 at 08:00 PM

It's not too late to apply to Stanford/Yale! You have great numbers and your "softs" are excellent. ;) Chicago is a great school though, and you have an excellent shot. Good luck!

Congrats!

You really do need to learn how to play softball, regardless of whether or not you go to UVA.

Congrats...

to another LSN libertarian. The few and the proud. Rock on. I'd be interested in hearing what your ultimate decision is and your rationale for it.

Tuesday, October 17 2006 at 08:00 PM

Congratulations on Harvard! I spent about a week worried that I remembered wrong or there was some sort of mistake. Is Chicago still your top choice or did Harvard just give it the old heave-ho? Those holds are bizarre.

Congrats!
Monday, June 26 2006 at 08:00 PM

Harvard, that's fantastic! Guess you won't be heading south this year after all...

Congrats on H! So you've already decided to tell Columbia and Penn to go screw themselves? Good decision. They both need to be taken down a notch, and you're just the woman to do it.

Monday, November 13 2006 at 07:00 PM

CONGRATULATIONS!! HARVARD!!

thanks
Friday, September 01 2006 at 08:00 PM

Brito! I was so shocked to see the email in my in box. I'm still in shock. It makes my decision that much harder though! I dunno if I told you, but congrats on HLS! If I got in there, then the decision would be so easy for me, lol.

great acceptances
Thursday, January 04 2007 at 07:00 PM

How did you study for the LSAT and how long? Do you have any personal advice? Thanks.

Thank you very much!
Friday, September 01 2006 at 08:00 PM

And congrats to you on Harvard. Surely you don't still want to go to Chicago over HLS!? :)

Congrats on Harvard!
Monday, May 01 2006 at 08:00 PM

That is such an awesome choice to have! So are you pretty much set on heading out to Boston next year?

Sunday, December 03 2006 at 07:00 PM

I'm honored by your presence in my humble account. I'm leaning heavily toward Michigan...money talks and all. I'll be going to their ASW; so, we'll see what happens. I'm definitely fired up about them, though. Michigan seems like the best fit for my personality anyway. How 'bout you? What would it take for those other guys (Chicago, UVA) to steal you away from Harvard?

Meh...
Saturday, September 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

...I'm getting a little miffed that NYU hasn't given me a decision. : I'm moving tomorrow. Yay. Especially when I have to do it again in less than six months.

Scholarship!
Saturday, September 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

Mich! Nice! I'm jealous.

Harvard
Sunday, February 11 2007 at 07:00 PM

Harvard. Sigh. I don't suppose our humble Michigan scholarship is very tempting. Too bad, the LSD UM Crew would love to have you. But I suppose Harvard's championship moot court team would (not to mention that little prestige dealie) would be the nail in the coffin! Best of luck! Hope Chicago comes around so you can sweep the field (of schools you didn't pre-emptively withdraw from.)

Peppy
Saturday, January 27 2007 at 07:00 PM

Pepperdine is the new George Mason. It moved up 20 or so spots.

Saturday, January 27 2007 at 07:00 PM

Fee Waivers
Friday, March 02 2007 at 07:00 PM

How were you notified of the fee waivers. I would like to get some of those :-)

PS
Saturday, May 26 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hi, congrats on your admission to Harvard. I am new to this site. Does "fee waiver" mean that schools who sent you acceptance letters (Like UM and NYU) did so free of charge... ? I know my question might have sounded ridiculous... BTW, could you please send me a copy of your PS. I'd very much appreciate it.

PS and congrats
Sunday, August 20 2006 at 08:00 PM

Not sure if you're still checking this, but if you are I'd love to take a look at your PS. I am in the beginning stages of formulating my own, and would love to see a finished and successful product. Congrats on your acceptances, you'll love HLS. Take care!
