Do you know anything about this school? It is one I am interested in, but I live in CA and was raised in Philadelphia. I haven't had much of a chance to see Michigan so I was wondering if there was anything you could tell me. Thanks!

Admissions

I actually just started grad school (an offer I couldn't refuse) so I won't be applying to law school this year, but I still want to watch what's happening. I will probably apply next summer. Good luck on that LSAT score, that test entails a lot of stress. I'm thinking about taking mine over, but not sure yet.

Thanks!

For the info on Detroit. I am almost certain I will take a trip out there to visit the campus, and even with my numbers I believe I have a fair shot at getting in. LSAC had my chances at around 60% so I was pleased with that. I am originally from back east, and my g/f is also from the northeast so we will more then likely eventually move back there. We are also big fans of the mid-west (Chicago, Cleveland, Pittsburgh). Thanks again for the info, it is good to hear first hand what people think of an area, especially when they have lived there.

My Guess
Wednesday, August 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

Is that your first choice is UofM, second is MS, and thrid is Wayne State. Am I right about this? If it came down to Ave Maria and UofD which one do you prefer? Thanks for the info again, I did read the Law School Discussion info and seems like a solid school. I am hoping I get accepted.

How did the LSAT go?? Do you feel good about your performance? Hope you get a great score.

What your LOR writer said has a lot of truth to it; top tier law schools teach the philosophy and abstract things about law. Many of the lower tier schools are more worried about their bar pass rates, so they just become bar prepping institutions. UofM has many of the best applicants so naturally they often have higher bar pass ratings. That said, UofM is an awesome school, and you can do anything with a degree from their law school. If you get in, you must go there. It has such a powerful reputation. Only way you should not take their offer, is if you get offered big $ from somewhere else. What type of law are you thinking about practicing?

LSAT

Your LSAT is solid. You won't have any trouble getting a scholarship at Wayne State, and UofM is definitely worth a shot.

Apps
Wednesday, August 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

All the ones that say Pending are in. I am too lazy to actually put the complete dates, etc. I will just post the acceptance/rejcetion crap when it comes in. I have a few more to go. At this point I have spent so much $$ I don't even care anymore. Whats another 3 or 4 apps?!

School suggestion
Monday, June 26 2006 at 08:00 PM

if you don't mind st. louis, I'd definitely recommend applying to Washington Univeristy in St. Louis. I was accepted with a 3.72 GPA was a 163 lsat. Good luck!

about UMich
Monday, June 26 2006 at 08:00 PM

I think that might be a waste of money, especially since you aren't a URM.

I'm pretty positive I will be rejected from UMich, but I know I will regret it if I don't try. And I usually avoid rejection at all costs, so this will be a good exercise for me! haha.

oops, sounded like a jerk
Sunday, December 11 2005 at 07:00 PM

I really didn't mean to sound like a jerk, I just know from experience (last year's application cycle). I wasted a few hundred bucks applying to reach schools because I didn't have anyone helping me out/slapping me back into reality. I really hope you get in!!!

don't worry
Tuesday, July 18 2006 at 08:00 PM

I don't think you sounded like a jerk at all! I realize it's a reach, and so much as have said myself that I'm giving UM a donation. haha.

Hey!

Yeah, we do - Good luck with your apps! Are you just doing MI schools?

Sent out another app this weekend. Getting nervous.

Waiting Patiently.
Wednesday, August 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

The wait is not fun. I am really anxious to see what happens. All I want for Christmas is a few acceptances =o)

Congratulations on Ave Maria
Wednesday, August 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

I am willing to be they are going to offer you a big scholarship. You deserve it!

No letter from MSU yet. I'm getting a bit worried that maybe someone made a mistake over the phone! I'll really start to worry if I see acceptances on LSN but my letter is still missing!

Thanks!
Thursday, October 26 2006 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the kind words, congrats to you too on UDM. I'm sure you'll have a great cycle, best of luck with everything.

Hey congrats on all your acceptances and good luck with UM. Quick question, when did you find out about the scholarship offer to Michigan State? Please let me know. Thanks!

Congrats
Wednesday, August 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

More acceptances and more $! Which is your top choice at the moment?

UDM Visit
Wednesday, August 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

I would love to visit UDM but the case I am currently assigned to is going to trial. That will probably mean 12 - 14 hour days + weekends for the next few weeks/months. Depending on the post trial work, I am hoping that this summer I will have some free time to get out for a visit. Again, congratulations on the scholarship. Mich State is a great school, and I hear the campus is a lot of fun. You are right to consider and weigh all your options. This is a big decision and there is no reason to rush to anything before thinking it out. That said, I would go Mich State!

Congrats!
Monday, January 15 2007 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on all your accepts and $! I'm sure you're holding out for UM, but even without you've got some great options.

On the other hand
Wednesday, August 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

You have four awesome offers. Your future is not in any doubt! You are going to law school, and you are going to have some really low student loans after graduation. =)

if not Wayne...
Monday, January 15 2007 at 07:00 PM

If you decide not to go to Wayne, can I have your scholarship? ;-) What are your thoughts right now?

WSU
Tuesday, November 28 2006 at 07:00 PM

Can't say I did. Thanks for the message. I have no clue why I got "dinged" at Wayne. Fankly, I don't really believe in yield protection, but I can't think of anything short of murder or what you mentioned to justify me not getting accepted. Oh well. Congrats on your cycle. Wayne is a great school for the metro detroit area and if not wayne, MSU is an amazing campus. Just out of curiosity, what undergrad did you attend?

WMU?
Tuesday, November 28 2006 at 07:00 PM

164 from WMU? WOW! ;-) I went to Oakland.

164
Tuesday, November 28 2006 at 07:00 PM

Sorry for the WMU lowblow. We "Eastsiders" like to bash WMU as the ultimate excuse to hang out and rip bongs in a place other than his or her parents basement. I'm sure its not all like that, but it seems all my bum friends just happened to go there. Sorry. I'm thinking Chicago-Kent will win out. I'm just too terrified of the Michigan legal market, or more accurately, the lack thereof. I had a pretty interesting discussion with a former lax teammate of mine who took a full ride at MSU. Let me know if you're interested in what he had to say about the grim employment outlook. joe

MSU v. WSU
Sunday, May 14 2006 at 08:00 PM

Just wondering, what made you choose Michigan State over Wayne?

hey again
Tuesday, November 28 2006 at 07:00 PM

sorry for not sending that info along yet. On another note, I'm struggling between kent and msu now. Could you please tell me all the things that made you consider msu in spite of the grim economic outlook and career placement statistics? I most likely want to get a judicial clerkship, what do you know about MSU in that regard? Please help.

MSU?
Tuesday, November 28 2006 at 07:00 PM

I sent you a book's worth of information.

Thanks
Friday, January 26 2007 at 07:00 PM

....for the congrats! It's looking like I'll be going to MSU, look forward to seeing you there :).

You got a 164 and your are settling for MSU? I think you can do way better. At least a tier one.
