UPDATES:

11-28-06: I was starting to get nervous that my numbers might be too low for MSU and I'd get rejected, so I called them to get my app changed to part-time. It turns out, I was already ACCEPTED for full-time!!! YAY! They said letters will be going out later next week. I'm so excited!!! Now I have to worry about the $$$! :/

12-09-06: WAITLISTED at DePaul! I was expecting a rejection so this is great news!!!

12-13-06: DEFERRED at Michigan. I know, I know - I have no chance, but I had to give it a shot! I think it's safe to say that the Michigan dream is dead. :(

12-14-06: MSU ACCEPTANCE letter arrived in the mail today (thin white envelope)!!! :) Financial aid decisions will be made by 2/1/06 - I have a feeling I'm going to have to beg! :( Seriously though, money will be a big factor in my decision.

12-22-06: Even though I'm already in at MSU, I doubt I'm getting any money from them due to my LSAT score (my fingers are still crossed though!!!). Last year 157 was their LSAT cut-off for Merit Scholarships, although I'm hoping they read my personal statement and offer me a Trustee Scholarship (i.e. diversity scholarship). Anyway, in the hopes of not having $125,000 of debt when I graduate, I've decided to apply to a few more schools (more specifically, schools that will hopefully offer me money). Toledo, Dayton, and Akron are good schools, they seem to offer a lot of money, and they are in the Midwest, so they are a good fit for me.

1-09-07: OFF-TOPIC but I'm going to be U.S. Citizen!!! I received a letter today informing me that my Citizenship Oath Ceremony has been scheduled for the end of January! Just in time for law school (and the road to the 2008 Election which I can finally VOTE in)!

1-10-07: A huge batch of UM applicants went to DECISION today and I'm not one of them. The general consensus seems to be that rejections have started going out. Where's mine??? (just kidding) Based on my "complete" date, a decision surely must be made by now. I guess at this point, no news is good news, eh??? ;)

1-11-07: I'm really hoping to get some money from some schools. I race home every day to get the mail only to be disappointed by bills and credit card offers. Please, please, please!!! 2-01-07 seems so far away!!!

1-17-07: Just received a voicemail from Akron - ACCEPTED! Hopefully the forthcoming letter will mention scholarships!

1-17-07: In a last ditch effort, I faxed a "letter of continued interest" to the University of Michigan. I'm sure it won't matter, but it is worth a shot!

1-22-07: Received a large envelope from Akron full of admissions materials. Any $$$ will follow.

1-24-07: ACCEPTED at Dayton via email. Snail mail to follow. No mention of $$$ - hopefully it will follow too.

1-31-07: I am officially a US Citizen!

1-31-07: Admissions packet from Dayton arrived. They offered me a scholarship of $15,000/year. YAY!

2-01-07: Received an email from MSU letting me know that scholarship offers will be sent out on 2-5-07. The subject line of the email made me think they were telling me I received a scholarship - cruel joke!

2-02-07: ACCEPTED at Wayne State for full time. No mention of $$$. At least I have in-state tuition! Notice came in a small cream-coloured envelope.

2-05-07: ACCEPTED at Toledo! Notice came in a small white envelope. I'm going to see if they'll offer me in-state tuition since my family lives in one of the counties in Michigan that they count as in-state. Yep, they will! That'll save me $30,731! I'm going to count it as a scholarship for accounting purposes since I live out-of-state..

2-06-07: ACCEPTED at Utah!!! Received a call from Dean Aguilar! How the hell did that happen??? Totally unexpected! The ironic thing is that the reason I applied was because my significant other (we just broke up 2 weeks ago) is from Utah. Funny how things happen. Despite having no ties to the area anymore, I'm still going to seriously consider going since it is a good school.

2-06-07: ACCEPTED at Cooley with a 60% scholarship! Notice came in a large manila envelope.

2-09-07: Michigan status checker went to DECISION!!! They sent out rejections to their ED applicants during this week last year too, so I'm not optimistic. :( (But I'm still hoping!!!)

2-10-07: REJECTED at Michigan. The dream is dead. :(

2-12-07: REJECTED at Northwestern via email. The other dream is dead. :(

2-14-07: Received an email from MSU inviting me to apply to their first year IP writing program. I think I will do that! ;).

2-20-07: WAITLISTED at Loyola. DAMN! Now I'm on two Chicago waitlists. It's going to be tough to sell my house in time to start school in August if I get accepted off of these waitlists!!! My last hope is Chicago-Kent (and maybe John Marshall if they give me $$$)!!!

2-28-07: Received an email from Akron offering me a $12,000/year scholarship if I maintain a 3.3 GPA. YAY!!!

3-23-07: ACCEPTED at John Marshall! Also, they offered me a $6,000/year scholarship. YAY! Now I have a Chicago option!

4-3-07: Scholarship from Utah!!! You've got to be kidding me!!! Total value is $11,275. And after 3 semesters I can get in-state tuition too making it one of my cheapest options!!!

4-4-07: Emailed MSU and told them that I really want to go there but I have scholarships and in-state tuition at every other school I was accepted at making MSU twice as expensive as all my other options (which are all comparable or higher ranked than MSU). They said that they got rid of their Trustee Scholarship (ie diversity scholarship) and that with my numbers it's doubtful that I'll get a Merit Scholarship. Since they just moved up to T3, they expect a much higher yield among scholarship recipients this year. For my own sake, I hope that's not true (this year). I really want to go to MSU.

Why, oh why MSU, will you not show me some love??? C'mon!

4-27-07: WAITLISTED at Pacific. Are you serious? After all this time? Thanks but no thanks!

05-11-07: REJECTED at DePaul. Oh well. Actually with MSU moving up and DePaul moving down I don't think I would've uprooted myself to go there anyway (especially this late in the game).

05-14-07: REJECTED at Loyola. Oh well. I'm pretty much set on MSU anyway.

05-24-07: It's official! I'm going to MSU!!!! I'm going to specialize in IP Law and I've decided to switch from full-time to part-time so I can continue to work. I can't wait to start!!!!!

06-04-07: DEFERRED at Chicago-Kent. I'm flattered that they didn't flat out reject me!!! But it's too late to consider going there even if I did get in. :(

Can you tell me anything about U of D Mercy? I am interested in their program and I hear they have a kick ass clinic for immigration law (area I am most interested). Good luck this cycle!

Yeah I think I might actually have a decent shot at U D Mercy, especially if I apply to their PT program. I have heard some really good things about Detroit and there was a great spread on the city in a really awesome fashion Mag, W. I worked in textiles for a long time, and I still read about those things as my mother and uncle are both fashion designers. Anyhow, the mag really said some great things about the city, and I am getting a little tired of Los Angeles. I am eager to learn more about what Detroit, and also UD Mercy. Thanks for the message and good luck this cycle. =)

I'm also a non-traditional applicant and first generation college grad. Do you have any idea how you're going to play this up in your PS? I've got a little bit of writers block.

Thanx

I noticed you were wanting to go into public interest law. Have you checked out the University of District of Columbia in Washington D.C.? They have a great public interest program. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for the comment. No indication of $$ from MSU yet. They said in the letter that they would notify me by Feb 1 if I get anything. Congrats to you too on your acceptance. Good luck on the rest of your applications!

Thanks for the comment! I'm hoping, but from what I've seen on this site today as far as other people's updates, I'm pretty confident I'm in rejection round #1. Hey, you can't win them all. But here's hoping for your "complete" to quickly and magically change to an "acceptance"! All the best.

Being a resident alien, I was eligible for federal student loans. I actually just became a US citizen last week.
