Additional info & updates

10/28/2010: Retook the LSAT 10/2010. Scores come out 11/1. I will have a better idea what schools will accept me. I'm not nervous about my score. I did the best I could, and if it ends up being 146 again, so be it. I'm in a law school - first, of what I hope will be many.

11/3/2010: Accepted into Cooley Law. I placed my $25 deposit to hold a seat. My "first deposit" is due April 1, and is $500. I selected the Ann Arbor campus. I'm waiting to hear on the other schools.

11/12/2010: I have been receiving emails and paperwork from other law schools. Several 4th tiers have invited me to apply. This includes Ave Maria, Phoenix, Charlotte, and a school in KY. Actually, Chapman sent an email yesterday to visit their school. I wrote to see if I could get a fee waiver. If so, I'll include Chapman on the list. They were initially, but I was running low on funds.

11/16/2010: I received an updated letter from Cooley Law today. They informed me that with my revised LSAT score, they would offer me a 50% Honors scholarship for each academic year, provided I maintain a constant GPA and remain in good standing.

11/17/2010: I decided to submit to one school on the east coast - Penn State Law. It has a good program and has a strong program in public interest. I checked my application status on the law programs that sent my log in information. My applications are "under review." Let's hope for some positive words soon, as I saw several students already received notification from MSU.

11/25/2010: Accepted to PT program at Creighton! Woot!!

UPDATE: 12/2/2010: Via status tracker, it says "re-review in February" at Michigan State. I scoured a few known law school webpages and found from Top Law Schools that it means my application is an admissions deferral to be looked at again in February for further consideration. I will wait for the official letter - hopefully in the next week or so. I hope to hear from one of the T1 or T2 schools with more positive news. At least its not a rejection, but still. Very unnerving.

12/3/2010: I had a phone call with the Admissions person for the CLEO program. I applied for the six week summer institute, and if a law school recommends me, I think I am in. For those interested in CLEO: http://www.cleoscholars.com/.

12/7/2010: Via status tracker, it says "Preliminary Waitlist." So now I'm wait listed at Iowa. Hurrah! I can hear from now until next April if I am accepted. It would be nice to attend the UI. It's a great school and a good community.

12/8/2010: Working on my why essays. I don't have much to add for my resume, except continuation dates. I also plan to have LSAC send one more letter to each of my wait listed schools so far. I called MSU and UI to find out the above items to send.

12/13/2010: Submitted my LOI and "Why X." Received email responses later that day from admissions thanking me for the information and informing me the material will be placed in my file.

12/17/2010: Through email, I received an acceptance letter for the PTD program at Whitter Law in Costa Mesa, California. They also offered me a scholarship of ~$5,000 or so. Yay. Come on Tier 1 and Tier 2 schools (UM, MSU, UI, UN, Penn, USC)...one of you give me an acceptance!!!

1/24/2011: Well, as expected, the rejections came in troves. I received a rejection letter from Michigan and USC. Penn sent a rejection email. UN-Lincoln I found out by status tracker. I have yet to hear from UCI (will find out by April), Williamette, Drake (2/1), MSU (2/15) and Iowa (anytime during the spring). I'm alright about it. I am accepted to at least a few law schools. Here's to hoping everyone else gets more "yeses" than "nos."

1/31: I had a campus visit with Drake scheduled, but cancelled it when I received the rejection letter. Oh well. Two weeks or less of nail biting to find out about MSU. I am really doubting I will be accepted to Iowa and Irvine, but feel I do have a chance at the PT program at MSU. We will see. Good luck everyone.

2/1: Counting down the days until I hear from MSU. I am feeling hopeful. I found out a few grants I could apply for even before I hear back from the Admissions. If anyone is applying for MSU, you may want to apply to. Here is the information: http://www.law.msu.edu/admissions/scholarships.html
Good luck!

2/9: There you have it. Rejection from MSU. I doubt Iowa, Irvine will fall through then. Waiting on Southwestern and Williamette. Either or, at least I am in Creighton and Whittier. Of those two, I'd rather go for Creighton. Good luck everyone.

I'm not really considering Cooley, mainly because I have no desire to go to Michigan. I applied to MSU only because they sent me a fee waiver so I figured I couldn't turn it down. If I don't get into a school that I'd be happy going to, I plan to get a masters degree and retake the LSAT further down the road. Good luck with your cycle!

1) The CLEO program is way too much of a risk, especially for a school like STU - Florida. There's no way I would participate in that - just my own personal decision. 2) I don't have the LSAT scores to get in to Southwestern. I decided to be pretty methodical in my applications and only apply to places where I had a greater chance of getting in (with my two reach schools being UCI - which doesn't cost much to apply to, and Chapman).

Best of Luck on retake

Best of Luck on that retake. I retook it twice (for a total of 3 times). Just have faith in yourself. If it needs to be taken again, than fine. Just a test. :) Goodluck.

Thanks!

Hi, thanks for the comment, no money from Cooley but they did accept me from last years application which was unexpected and a nice surprise. You have some excellent schools on here, I hope you get accepted!!

Thanks! Congrats on Cooley! I'm mainly looking at New England area schools and FL schools since I moved from new England to Florida for college :) Good luck on your other schools!

I appreciate the congrats on Ave Maria. I thought I replied and I did, but apparently I got the verification code below wrong. Meh...I'm surprised that you were waitlisted at Ave Maria. They have even called me, and that's at a lower LSAT score. Only a few more apps for me and then no more-gets pricey. Keep me updated. And GOOD LUCK!

Did your MSU status say 'wait-listed'? I checked mine today and it said 're-review in February'... I'm trying to figure out if that means I was wait-listed or just that they're holding my application until the spring? I didn't think I applied EA or ED, so I don't understand how they can technically defer me or why they would bother changing the status checker.

Hello there, I wanted to congratulate you on the acceptances. I also have a question regarding your LSAT. When did you take it for the first time and received the 146 and how much time did you spend studying for that awesome 153?! I wish you the b est of luck in this cycle!

Yes, I meant MSU. I had Ave Maria on my mind. :) It's surprising still.

Thanks fingers crossed haha! Congrats on Creighton :) Keep me updated and good luck!

Sunday, September 12 2010 at 08:00 PM

thanks for responding. Have you considered any schools in Florida?

Write a LOCI (letter of continued interest) and a Why MSU essay. The sooner you send it the better. They recommend sending something in the letter and they give you a date to do it by, but it will probably make a bigger impact if you do it sooner than later.

Creighton is great!

Glad to see you've gotten some acceptances and waitlists! It feels good to get in somewhere, doesn't it? I was so relieved. Keeping my fingers crossed for you, good luck on the rest of your cycle (and your WLs)!

Thank you! I'm really not sure yet, waiting to hear back from all the schools and then I'll make my decision. Uconn is the best school I applied too and Im from ct so I'd love to go but its def a stretch based on my numbers haha. What about you?

Hola!
Sunday, September 12 2010 at 08:00 PM

Sappho, I got in somewhere lol!!!!!! I am in full time in Florida Coastal. I did not bother to apply to MSU, they seem to only care for GPA and LSAT. Take care and please keep me updated.

So, you're leaning towards Creighton?
Monday, October 20 2008 at 08:00 PM

I see you're leaning towards Creighton over Whittier...what's your thought process here. I'm still semi-interested in Whittier, so I'd love to get your take on it!
