Additional info & updates

11-24-10 Received my first discussion today. Got accepted into Ave Maria! With money too! :) Made my weekend. It's been a long road, at least now I know that I can get into law school. I'm very happy today. I read some negativity regarding the school on the web, however, I remind myself that everyone has an opinion and to each their own. FEELING GREAT!

11-30-10 Today I sent out my application to Penn State. Yes, I know this is a reach, but they offered me a fee waiver, so I figured "why not..."? I guess this will go down as a reach school for me, but I guess it's better to know what your options are, than to never have applied at all. Since it was a free application, I can live with that either way. :)

11-30-10 I took a look at my current status for all schools that I've applied to. Barry's status says "Further consideration at later date." I'm assuming this means Waitlisted...? Anyone else been waitlisted at Barry? Also, what's the % of people who are waitlisted, then later admitted vs denied admission?

12-6-10 I was looking at others people's numbers/school graphs on here when I noticed that someone just posted an acceptance into St. Thomas. I decided to check mine (again-been checking them a lot-sadly :) ). Checked mine and it says ACCEPTED to St.Thomas. :) I'm pretty darn happy right now. I don't know of any details, I haven't even received an email from them yet, but we'll see. I'm happy either way!

12-8-10 I took another look at the status checker on the St.Thomas website, and apparently a discussion letter was mailed out yesterday. It is also showing a seat deposit amount due in the lower left hand corner box. It just says "congrats-you've been accepted." I know they also offer a summer program, but at this point I don't know which one I was accepted in to. The summer program wouldn't be an option for me, so let's hope it's just the standard admit. Will update when I receive.

12-10-10 Got the letter from St. Thomas today. Nothing fancy, just a letter stating that I've been accepted for Fall of 2011, and a page to send back with my decision and deposit. As of now I have Ave Maria in Naples and St. Thomas in Miami as my options. Haven't heard from any other schools yet.

12-13-10 This morning I received an email from Barry, stating that I have been placed on Hold (i.e. waitlisted). Of course I already knew this, because over 2 weeks ago I read this on their status checker. No comment :)...

12-16-10 Status checkers are all still the same. I'm really starting to realize that what they say, doesn't really mean anything with some schools. One school's has been saying the same thing for 2 months now. Anyways, I'll continue to be patient and potentially add a few schools that I may have overlooked applying to initially.

1-6-11 Still no new news or updates. It's stressful to say the least. And we wait...

1-9-11 Today I checked my status checkers and I was Rejected from Loyola New Orleans. I really don't care as I only applied because they sent me a fee waiver. Had I been accepted, it would have been a challenge to move to New Orleans. I checked my FIU status checker and it's status reads "decision rendered-letter sent." Whether this is good (and they don't put accepted on their website) or is bad (and they don't put rejected on their website), I suppose I'll find out next week in the mail.

1-11-11 Today I received notice that I was rejected from Stetson via email. I wasn't shocked as I knew that Stetson was a reach for me, but to say that it didn't still sting would be a lie. I will now attempt to get into the PT program, as Stetson is my first choice. As far as FIU goes, I did not receive the letter with my decision today, so we'll have to wait. Still showing as "in review" at FL Coastal. Things are kindda heating up again, but obviously not with the results I'd like. We'll see on FIU and FL Coastal status's. Here's to wishing for the best.

1-12-11 Still haven't received a letter from FIU. FL Costal status still at "In review." Nova's status has been on "In review" for months now. And we wait...

1-14-11 Received an email today from Penn State - rejected. Zero surprise there, and it really didn't bother me since I only applied due to the fee waiver. I also finally got the FIU letter that I've been waiting for. I was rejected. I have to admit that this one hurt. I would have really loved to go there, especially for the In State tution prices. I'm not very surprised, but it would have been very nice. Been a rough week for rejections for me. In fact I'm on a 4 rejections streak this week :( .

1-19-11 Checked my status checkers today and IN AT FLORIDA COASTAL! :) Made me feel good. Last week I received 4 rejections, so I'm glad I got another acceptance. Didn't receive an email, just saw that I was accepted on the website. Under documents it said something about scholarship agreement, but whether that means I'll receive money or not, I guess we'll see either via email or US mail. Honestly guys, I needed that acceptance. Feels good.

1-20-11 Received acceptance email and scholarship notice from Florida Coastal today, so it's confirmed. My scholarship dollars are total for 3 years on all my schools.

1-24-11 Today I applied to 5 more schools. All schools have been offering me a fee waiver so I figured "Meh-why not?" I think I have a decent shot at University of Arkansas-LR, University of Idaho, and at Valparaiso. Chicago-Kent (IIT) and Villanova are obviously strong reaches, but again - I don't see the harm in applying when the fees have been waived. I had intended to apply to Miami, but seeing as their numbers seem even higher than normal this year, and that I couldn't get a fee waiver, I've decided not to waste the money on that application.

1-25-11 Today as I went through my daily browse of my status checkers, I noticed that my status at Barry went from "further consideration at a later date" to "file complete, in review." So apparently perhaps they're deciding whether to take me off of waitlist or not. I received a few status checker log on infos from schools I applied to yesterday as well.

1-26-11 My status checker for Nova Southeastern just went to "Committee Review." This excites me because for over 2 months it's read "In Review." So maybe some news on this one soon...?

1-31-11 My status at Barry went to "Congratulations-Accepted" today! I'm pretty excited about getting off the WaitList to Accepted! We'll see what my acceptance packet says when I get it in. Also. last Friday I found out that I was admitted into Nova S.E.'ers AAMPLE program. I'll probably turn this down though, because with FT acceptances to other schools, and having to pay for a Summer semester out of packet (no financial aid) isn't something that is likely for me.

2-5-11 Received my packet from Barry yesterday. I was admitted to the Full Time program. I was also offered a total of $3000 (for 3 years) in a scholly, which wasn't bad considering the fact that I was originally waitlisted. As far as the rest of my schools go, nothing new has changed on my status checkers. I received an email from FAMU, stating that they were still reviewing apps and a discussion would be made soon. This kindda hurts the the school in my opinion. I have been complete there since Oct. I don't really see an excuse here. At this point, based on my current acceptances, cost of living, etc - I believe I'm leaning towards Barry. We'll see what happens.

2-19-11 Received an email on Thursday that I had been rejected by Idaho. The email said "as you've noticed from your status checker", which wasn't true because at the time of the email my status checker still said "in review." I was actually quite shocked by the rejection. My numbers are solid for their school and the only reason I applied was due to constant email and a fee waiver. I had figured that if they offered a solid scholly, I'd consider it. But w/e, as I'm truly not crushed by that news. All others schools are still pending. We'll see...

2-22-11 Received an email today that I was rejected from Univeristy of Arkansas. Just applied there due to a ton of emails they sent me. Don't really care. I also see that I went from Complete to In Review today at FSU. I'm thinking about maybe applying to NCCU, Charlotte, and/or Charleston as well. Charlotte and Charleston are both only provisionally approved, so I don't know. NCCU seems to be very affordable. If anyone has applied to any of the 3, please share your thoughts.

2-25-11 My status from FSU went to Decision Made and Will Receive by Mail today. So...I guess we'll see what I receive.

3-2-11 Still waiting on my letter from FSU. It may be at home, but haven't been there since the mail came today, so we'll see tonight. My status checker for Valparaiso went to "decision letter mailed." So I'm waiting on two letters right now. If anyone would care to address how they'd rank Ave Maria, Nova (Summer Program), Barry, FCLS, and St.Thomas, I'd be very greatful. These are the only schools that I'm certain I've been admitted into so far, so I'd appreciate Constructive comments please.

3-4-11 Received rejection letter from FSU today. No big surprise there. They encourage to attempt to transfer in their rejection letter, but from what I hear very few people successfully transfer in law school.

3-7-11 Was rejected from Mercer today via Status Checker. Received letter that I was waitlisted at Valparaiso. They gave me the option of remaining of the waitlist, or withdrawing from it. My gut tells me to withdraw, due to it being across the country and knowing that withlisting can last until the first day of classes, it doesn't give me much to prepare for. I'll think on it before making a decision though.

3-10-11 I received an email that I was on HOLD at FAMU today and that I'd be consider for "SPRING SEMESTER." That's pretty ridiculous. I don't think my numbers are that great, but really...? :) I'm going to tell them to go ahead and remove me from consideration. It's comical at best that someone with superior numbers and have been complete since the first of Nov is told of a Hold in March. Guess that's an indication of how things work there, I'm no longer interested.

3-10-11 Withdrew from FAMU and Valpo waitlists.

Good luck!

Good luck to you on your application process! Our numbers are similar. I did take the LSAT again Oct 2010, so we will see if I improved or not.

I heard back from them about 2 weeks after applying and i did speak to the admissions office about an addendum i had to send, very nice people. i believe it was the standard program because there were no stipulations sent with the acceptance. never been to the area have you? im not sure what its like there but cant be to bad, not to far from south beach. GOODLUCK!

I copied and pasted the exact email that I received from Barry the day after my application status changed to "Further consideration at a later date" Dear Laura, Thank you for your application to Barry University School of Law. We are writing to inform you that the Admissions Committee has thouroughly reviewed your file, and has voted to delay a final decision at this time. We will be in touch with you as soon as new information regarding your status is available. Please contact us as soon as possible if you have changes in your contact information or have additional information that may be pertinent to the committee. Some delayed files may be reviewed for possible admission in the summer Early Start Program. The committee will begin reviewing those files at a later date, but we are unable to pinpoint an exact time frame. If you have any questions regarding this process, please contact us at the email addresses below. I hope this helps you a little bit!

Thanks :)

Actually, I was wait listed at MSU, but thanks for the note anyway! I wish you luck with your other apps. I saw you were wait listed at Barry. I will be keeping an eye on you. Good luck!!

FIU

Check your FIU status checker, my application went complete on 11/1/10 and yesterday changed from "Ready for Review" to "Under Review." Goodluck!

Congrats!
Thursday, July 23 2009 at 08:00 PM

Thanks, and congrats to you as well! Nothing really beats seeing that "Congratulations!" on the Status Checker page! On FIU, they dinged me last year, but I applied later too. My 148 and UGPA (flawed though it is) really would not make the cut at FIU... but I am hopeful that my earlier application might help. My FIU Status Checker has also gone to "In Review". Another note on FIU - they are slow! Last cycle I had to mail them my $20 check, which they lost, so I hand delivered one to them so it wouldn't... then I got dinged. This year we can pay online, and it appears as though they might, just might, be a little more on the ball about processing. Nova was also slow... the waiting is painful because we all know the first year of law school is going to be hell anyway... yaaay! Thanks again, I'll be watching your profile to see how you score out. Best wishes for much success!

FIU
Thursday, July 23 2009 at 08:00 PM

Personally, being an old man, I would not consider any sort of conditional or probational program of any sort. I do believe that those who are successful in such programs are very successful in law schools in general, but I won't be spending any money for that sort of thing. What I really want is to see FIU give me the nod for approval. In all seriousness, that alone would be like my passing the Bar Exam.

thanks
Thursday, July 08 2010 at 08:00 PM

I appreciate it man. Good luck to you too.

Wednesday, October 27 2010 at 08:00 PM

Have you thought about calling the admissions office at Barry? Chances at mercer.. hmm my LSAT isn't that good but hopefully they will like my rec letters and Personal statement. i think its going to be a toss up. As far at Fl coastal being my number one, I really love Jacksonville and its pretty close to home. I knew someone that graduated from there as well and they highly recommended it. He said everyone is really friendly and helpful. I think that my number ones are tied between Fl coastal, John Marshall, Mercer, and Charlotte. I went to visit Charlotte and the school is absolutely awesome. Very Technology Savvy. Have you heard anything else lately from any of the schools you applied to?

STU - In Writing!
Thursday, July 23 2009 at 08:00 PM

It feels good. Since they are only a few miles away (or so), and that they mailed in on the 7th, I thought it would be here today. The funny part is that it is such a small envelope, Cooley sends you a pretty big deal when they accept you. Still, it is very nice to have it for the wall!

St.Thomas
Thursday, September 23 2010 at 08:00 PM

hey man my status checker says the same thing Congrats-Accepted. Except I got a letter in the mail as well with a 12,000 dollar scholarship. Which do you think is better St.Thom or Nova?

Hey I'm waiting for my FIU decision too, hopefully we'll be getting good news! Where does FIU rank for you?

FIU
Friday, May 28 2010 at 08:00 PM

Yeah I'm wondering the same thing...I guess we'll see. And FIU is up there for me too, it's good for public interest and it's nice and cheap! Anyway, I don't have any info for seat deposits on my status checker. I'm hoping I get the decision in the mail tomorrow, but we'll see...

FIU Letter
Friday, May 28 2010 at 08:00 PM

Yeah mine doesn't list anything under mailings either. Oh well, hopefully they just forgot to update that.

Friday, May 28 2010 at 08:00 PM

And I'll be in touch for sure dude! Good luck with FIU and the rest of your schools, what's your 1st choice?

first choice
Friday, May 28 2010 at 08:00 PM

Mine is CUNY, but if that doesn't work out FIU/UDC?FAMU or any place that I could go relatively cheaply would be good. And I'm still waiting for that FIU letter! Tomorrow hopefully, but still nothing under mailings for me.

King-for some reason your profile is private or something, because I can't click on it, hence reply to your question in your profile, so I'll reply here. Mine's in the exact same boat. It's read "In Review" for months now. If anything chances, please let me know. I'll obviously return the favor. -iLiftHeavyWeights

Sophia, again for some reason I can't click on your profile and I don't see you on the graph. Is your profile private? I think you're talking about FIU. Is that correct? If so, can I ask your numbers and the date that you received the letter in the mail? Note: My status checker went to "mailed decision" last Friday and still no letter. Also, does your status checker list a seat deposit fee, etc? Mine just shows the app fee and I'm wodering if this is a tell tale sign or not. Thanks-

Hey man sorry to hear about FIU I got rejected too :(. Keep in touch on FAMU though, I'm hoping for good news there, where does it rank for you?

Loyola New Orleans?
Thursday, October 28 2010 at 08:00 PM

They sent you a fee waiver? I have a 151/2.7 and I have mailed them over 5 times requesting fee waivers and even waited after my Dec. score for couple days......do you happen to know when they sent you fee waiver and how did they? Not that it matter much now that I applied already, but it does suck that I didn't get a fee waiver. I was also accepted into St. Thomas and hopefully will attend if I get any money from then. Good luck on rest of cycle.

STU
Thursday, October 28 2010 at 08:00 PM

also, on St. Thomas....I have " Congratulations you've been admitted" but I too am not sure if it's the SCP.....does you status checker have on fee's Summer Conditional Fee....by all Fee's it shows 0.00 but I have a section for that and I am wondering if that's because it's the stupid SCP I have been admitted to?

FAMU
Friday, May 28 2010 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, it ranks pretty highly for me too. It's supposed to be good for public interest and it's definitely cheap. But what bad things do people say about it? And that sucks that you got all your rejections at once, it just means you'll have a good week of acceptances soon.

St. Thomas
Thursday, October 28 2010 at 08:00 PM

Thanks alot, I am sure I was admitted into regular admission too, most people in SCP say....in via status checker SCP so I am hoping. As far as money, I am not sure because some people list money already. I am more than sure I will be in Miami at St. Thomas if Loyola doesn't accept me and even if they do, I maybe still go there because I love the idea of Miami

NOVA
Thursday, October 28 2010 at 08:00 PM

I haven't really thought much about Nova except for the fact that I intend to apply because of the area. Based on the #'s it seem they are a bit above St. Thomas but not sure 100% which on would be best.

Conrats on Barry! Where are you leaning to now?

Barry over FAMU
Monday, April 12 2010 at 08:00 PM

From what I've read, I believe the quality of education between both Barry and FAMU is even. I know that FAMU is behind this year on the admission cycle but FAMU's in-state tuition makes it a clear choice over Barry at least for me. If you don't mind me asking, why are you leaning towards Barry aside from what you posted?

@Law305
Monday, October 04 2010 at 08:00 PM

I agree with the tuition reasoning. I do think that Barry hasn't a larger network of alumni, and when you are going to a TTTT (or in FAMU's case, not even TTTT) you need to depend heavily on your alumni network to secure a job. Also, FAMU doesn't seem very disversified. I think that a well rounded education should be from people from all walks of life and ethnic backgrounds. Take a look at their website, do get the feeling that there's many races, cultures, backgrounds? I haven't attended school there, so I can't answer this either. But these are some of my thoughts.

Did you apply Full Time or Part Time at Nova? I wonder how many AAMPLE programs they offer to Part Time students since in the program information it says you should not working during the classes.

^I appreciate the congrats. I probably will not be attending NOVA as they offered me the AAMPLE program. I'm not ready to begin in the Summer, I live quite a ways away, I would have to pay the summer tuition out of pocket, and then I'd have no guarentee of Full Time status after quitting my job and moving. Just doesn't seem feasible to me. Do you a profile on here?

NC
Wednesday, February 09 2011 at 07:00 PM

Hi there, I didn't apply to the provisionally approved schools, especially because I have already been accepted to ABA schools. Unless, you plan on settling there for awhile? NC is a beauty. However, Florida is too. ps. Isn't it irritating when you receive a rejection from a school that has sent you several emails and invitations to apply? That's happen to me 3x!

I rather treat you to Chilean hot dogs when you come to Miami. lol I got into Thomas Cooley and Florida Coastal. I hope to hear from them soon. I have talked so much trash about St. Thomas that I can't go there lol. I hope I get accepted into the full time program for NOVA if not I have to consider if doing the conditional program is worth it. I've heard that you take less classes and do not graduate in three years. Please keep me updated me and message me your e-mail so we can be in touch.

My FSU got mailed today as well. I'm guessing a reject since their lowest LSAT is 161... But hey, a girl can dream. Good luck!

Have you been updated at all on your FAMU app? I'm seriously considering them, especially over Barry for tuition and just overall. I am planning on doing public service, so they are the best answer for me.

Yeah, I just went complete and it says 8-10 weeks. My seat deposits are due in about a month... I'm planning transfering to Stetson after my first year. Depending on if I'm in the top 30% and unless I end up liking it there and feel that I have decent job prospects. Because I do want to do criminal law (public sector) Stetson's tuition makes me nervous, but I have some connections within the 6th circuit already and that is where I plan on living, so it would benefit me to graduate from there, since they are a regional school. As far as the minority status is concerned. It doesn't really bother me that much. I didn't feel it a big deal when I went for their openhouse and honestly I couldn't tell it looked to be 50-50 to me. More women as well, which being a woman, makes me feel more comforted. I feel that FAMU would not have as much competitiveness as other schools. Also, I read this article from last month about the parking situation, they now have an agreement with the Amway Arena for students to use their garage. That is like 1/2mile to campus in a bad area and right under a highway overpass. I really don't want to get raped. But what about on raining days with computers and expensive books? Some things to consider?

HAH! Thanks for the safety net. That is pretty rediculous. And schools claim to not look at "ethnicity"... Bunch of BS. I'm going to be attending the accepted students day at Barry on 4/15 and FCSL on 4/1. Are you doing either? I wish the location of the two were flipped. I would rather go to FCSL any day over Barry, but Jacksonville is 4 hours and Orlando is 2. IDK, maybe when I go to both I will be swayed. Hopefully by then as well, FAMU will have gotten back to me... "Hey FAMU, Holla at a white girl with not so great scores!"

I guess just because of the people i have met and their positive experiences with it. Also, they have a high bar passage rate, but I guess if i'm planning on transfering that shouldn't really matter. I am a Bull c/o 09!!

Hey just wondering if your status at Nova ever said "committee review" and if so how long did it take you to get out of that and get accepted. I think Nova might be one of my top choices and the wait is killing me..

Have you heard anything regarding a scholarship from St. Thomas??
