Good luck to you, my numbers twin! I'll be watching your board. By the way, I'm jealous of your NYU fee waiver.

In all seriousness, I think you're pretty much a lock for all those schools on your list. I might even give Yale & Stanford a twirl if I were you. Good luck--

nice!

that GPA + that LSAT + URM = Auto Admit to virtually everything on your list. i agree with traffic, you might want to give Yale and Stanford a shot.

Just wanted to wish you good luck this cycle...I'm not fortune teller, but I don't think it's hard to see some great acceptances in your future!

Congrats on a 15:1 ratio of acceptances to rejections. I would take VA or MI if I was you.

Duke!
Friday, September 16 2005 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on the Mordecai! That's a great deal -- especially considering the cost of living in NC! Clearly you rocked this cycle.

You stole my Mordecai!
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

Looks like you impressed them far more than I in the interviews. Congrats!

Why Duke...
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

I don't think we ever spoke at the Mordecai interviews; I skipped out shortly after the interview with Dean Bartlett because I had previous plans for the weekend. Dean Bartlett told me to leave and that it wouldn't affect my chances, but it surely didn't help it seems. I ended up chosing Duke for the lifestyle. I have a wife and toddler, so I couldn't see spending the same/more $ to attend a school in a major city. Guess I'll see you in the fall?

Have you been...

posting crazy messages on my profile again? j/k Check out the venom! Apparently someone doesn't like UK.

Duke!
Friday, September 16 2005 at 08:00 PM

It's difficult for me to explain why I chose Duke because it was much more of a "clicking" experience when I realized that this was the place for me. I was impressed by the beauty of the campus, the excitment of the triangle area (sure Durham could be better but fun thing are very close), and I really enjoyed the student body. I got a chance to see a lot of students not associated with the admissions weekend directly, and they seemed friendly, and productive. Other places, people were less friendly, and less invested, and almost cynical about their educations. The small class sizes I think provide for a great community support. I was impressed with the administrative support students mentioned, and absolutely amazed by the close interactions with the faculty. At other places, good interaction meant the faculty would actually be in their office; at Duke, the students talked often about having dinner with the faculty. There were so many great stories, and basically, I meant a lot of people I'd like to be friends, colleagues with. I just saw myself fitting into that environment -- whereas, I couldn't see myself at Chicago (pretending to be academically superior and "hardcore" is not my thing ... also I don't like death and I like fun; thus, I don't want to go where fun goes to die) or Penn. I had pretty much decided I'd like a smaller school. Of course, I withdrew from Chicago before knowing whether or not I'd be admitted. Finally, and not insignifcantly, the money was a key issue. I love debate, and think I will love law school. Yet, I am not confident that I want to commit myself to a biglaw job to pay off ridiculous loans. Sure, I'll be in biglaw for a while. But, what if something else comes up? I don't want the loans to restrict my freedom. I'm risk adverse about stuff like that. ;) Anyway, so, phew, I've typed a novella. I look forward to seeing you at Duke! I hope you come. I'd love to talk about the ESL stuff. I am doing Teach for America right now, and teach writing. Most of my students are English language learners (I had an awesome teaching day recently with the immigration debates and a walkout at my school... maybe I would want to do PI. I just don't know. Low loans sound tempting). Peace!
