Additional info & updates

2/28- Rush and get out apps after taking second LSAT. Target Score: 155-160

3/3- Receive score. A disappointing 154. However, I am satisfied knowing that I studied hard for it again and again, did as best I could to focus, and gave it my all on test day number 2.

3/15- Email from Texas Wesleyan. I'm in. Cool! I got into law school

The next day - uggh pessimism. School was easiest one to get into.

4/5- Accepted at Mississippi College on birthday. Now I'm really going to law school and one i'd actually go to. Nonetheless I'm hoping for some better options.

4/8- Waitlisted at Ole Miss. I expected to be flat out rejected. Guess my soft factors were pretty strong.

4/13= Accepted at Samford. They sent the package in the mail to my house just as I was freaking out about not hearing from them yet as I had called two days earlier. I was absolutely ecstatic. By far my best offer to the point.

4/14- Withdrawal from Texas Wesleyan. Tier 4 with low reputation in DFW, not much cheaper than others, bad career placement (83 percent total), harsh grading

4/15-4/20- Visit/marathon drive to the South. Had a blast and enjoyed the weather and some good food. I was exhausted but I liked Samford and unless I get into Ole Miss or South Carolina I'm attending. That was it.

4/19- Call to Penn State. My application is waiting review and I should hear back by Mid May. I was about to say that I needed to know cuz waiting get back to other schools or was a little shocked but I thought better of it. So I bit my tongue and am just going to grin and bear it.

4/23- Rejected at South Carolina. Withdrew from Mississippi College.

4/27- Attending Samford.

5/7- Waitlisted at Penn State. No one is being accepted this year without a 155 LSAT and a 3.5+GPA. People get accepted with 156s and 3.3s 3.4s. Their selectivity has increased this year, let's see if they get enough people for an entering class. Samford is a much better school with a much better reputation in its region than is Dickinson up north so I'm not riled that much I just think its funny that being a PA resident didn't count for anything or help out. Well I'll be a southern boy soon enough :-) God bless.

5/15- Out of Northern Illinois and back at home. Didn't like it there very much but I'm graduated and have new challenges to look forward to.

Hey, congratulations on your acceptances! I applied to Cumberland and I have been waitlisted. If by chance you know that you are not going to attend Cumberland, would you be so kind as to withdraw? If you are going, congratulations again and I wish you the best of luck.

Ignore above statement.

I visited a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed. The strong trial advocacy program and rep. in Florida is what attracted me. Have you started looking at apts. or places to live? If you come across any good ones let me know.

Samford and Mercer

I will most likely go to Mercer. It's only 2 hours away from my hometown. Also, I plan to practice in Georgia , and Mercer has a good reputation in Georgia. I don't want to work in Atlanta. I want to work in rural Georgia. I think Mercer and Samford are pretty much the same. It was just a matter of location. I don't know why Ole Miss flatt out rejected me so quickly. I actually thought I had a better shot at getting in there than Mercer. Good luck

all things being equal i would choose cumberland over jones but i am look at 27,800 a year vs. 5,500 a year. thats tough to turn down and i liked jones more than i thought i would so its a tough call. i have untill the 18th to decide. i'll keep you posted

Hey

Hey, of course no hard feelings...I just wanted to set the record straight is all. I have the same impression about USNWR--it does seem to bias the northern schools a lot. Also, Jones wasn't in the new one either?? Maybe a school has to get full accred. b/f it gets in? I don't know. I was curious to see the report on it because I had already made my choice. One good thing about the provisional accredidation is that once you sit in on your first class at that school, it counts, for you, as a fully-approved school, regardless what happens. Also, the only reason I knew about Jones is because I know someone who went there. Another thing I think is interesting is how USNWR does the rankings. It is like 40% made up of law school Dean's votes about the reputation. What got me was that the BAR pass only counted for like 2% or something. Maybe it is just me, but it seems that a school that can offer a high and consistent BAR passage rate, should get a boost from it (IMO, Cumberland should be teir 2). Stetson moved out of T3 this time with lower numbers than Cumberland?? Makes no sense to me. The whole ranking thing is a bit flawed.

Ole Miss/US WN

I completely agree! The rankings are crap. It was not until DU got a new building that they began to climb in the rankings. CU just got a new building and they went up a couple spots. I feel like they care more about the facility than the faculty. If the trend is correct then when Ole Miss finishes its new building the should get back into the top 100. The Loyola NO was a little wierd I have an adendum where I explain at time I was "arrested" not conivcted, and I make light of the situation. I think Loyola being a religous school wanted me to ask forgiveness or something.

Thanks for all of it. I agree with you, and thankkfully, I was accepted of the WL this morning at Cumberland. I get to stay in the south and go somewhere I wanted to go originally. Thanks again, and best of luck to you.

Scratch "best of luck" and replace with "see you there."

I really think that you will like it in Birmingham. I have lived up north (Michigan) and there is no comparison. The people are great and you can't beat the moderate climate. Congratulations and thanks again for your help and advice.

Party

Also, I took your advice on the party last night ... in a little pain but not too much. I have thought about housing, but I haven't taken any action yet. What about you? I'll probably try to find a good apartment close to campus. Cumberland is in a nice part of B-ham, so if I can find an apartment in that area for decent money, that's what I will do. I'll also probably want a roomate to save money. I'll e-mail you
