Extra Curricular Information

Honors college and some honors societies, work throughout UG and a few clubs.

I don't really have any particularly great softs, but I do have something that I thought might stick out to admissions committees. I work for the Brewing News and, subsequently, wrote my personal statement about beer...I'm happy to share it if anyone actually has a desire to read it.

Basically, I drink beer and get paid to evaluate and write them up. I knew I'd be taking an enormous risk writing a PS about beer, but thought it was worth a shot. I think it paid off in some instances.

Scholarship info is the total over 3 years.

Additional info & updates

4/13: Hot damn! The rankings have leaked and UW has catapulted to 28th, up 7 spots from #35 a year ago. On, Wisconsin!
------------------------------------------
12/21: I lied. LSAC Transcript Updated? Check. Paperwork complete? Check. Everything handed in? Check. Officially a member of the UW Law Class of 2013? You better believe it!

If anyone has any questions about Madison, UW Law School or their application process, feel free to ask!
-------------------------------------------
11/23: I couldn't help myself...one last update. Received my official deferral papers in the mail today...I need to update a few things and fill out some forms, but it's really happening--I'll be starting at UW next fall!
-------------------------------------------
Well now that the cycle is over and I'll be off to law school in Fall 2010, I'm happy to answer any questions that any newcomers (read: '09-10 applicants) have. Good luck to everyone for next year's cycle!
----------------------
5/21: Received my 'official' letter from Madison telling me they were granting my deferral. Withdrew from UIUC. On Wisconsin!

5/15: Well, it's official--I deferred my admission at Wisconsin. I am now part of the Wisconsin Law Class of 2013. VERY excited to be a Badger (going to my top choice!)!

CONGRATS ON UIUC!!!! That's so exciting!!!! How does it feel to get into one of your top choices? Are you going to attend UIUC over Pitt if you end up getting into Pitt?

Congrats again on Illinois, katz! It's great to see you've been accepted to a great school where you may have not thought you'd get in. I'm hoping for a "Holy Crap!" moment such as that myself. Maybe I'll see you at an ASD (if I get in, that is...). Congratulations, again!

Decisions

I haven't the slightest. I must be too on the edge at schools or something. It is a bit frustrating. I hate checking the mail, haha.

congratz on UIUC! so amazing. I'm extremely jealous.

Nice job on UIUC! We've got similar numbers and I'm hoping to sneek into Bloomington too!

UIUC Scholly!

Wow, congrats on the UIUC scholly!!! That's amazing!! You're little blurb that you posted today basically answered my question that I asked you in the message I sent a few minutes ago. That's incredible!

Wisconsin

WOW, that is AMAZING!!!! Congrats on getting off of the waitlist!!!! So incredible! But now you do indeed have quite the tough decision to make!

Thursday, December 18 2008 at 07:00 PM

Ummmm, yeah, +1 about Wisconsin!!!! That's awesome. You have two very good schools to choose between--good luck. =D

Wow! Your cycle has turned out wonderful. That's so exciting you're going to your first choice! Even though you have to wait a year, congrats!

GO BADGERS!

I graduated undergrad from UW-Madison and I would be happy to give you any pointers/advice about the campus and good places to party! (I was an engineer but we all drank heavily). I also had a question about DePaul. It's my gf's first choice and she has similar scores and gpa as you. I was wondering if you could fill me in on your thoughts of the application process and what its like applying there as a non URM (in fact a white jew ORM). Thanks and congrats, Madison is sweet (outside of the winter of course)! -Jake

So, since I can't respond to you on your profile, I'll answer it here. I really, really wanted to attend UW, but they didn't have any scholarship money (and for out of state it's $160k or so total). So, they suggested I defer to get in-state residency and save a ton of money. I was down with that, and can't wait for next year!

Congrats

Congrats on the exciting cycle! I applied to Wisc. too, so maybe I will see you around next fall. How did you handle this waiting time? I'm going crazy waiting for all of these decisions to come back.

In-State Tuition
Saturday, October 24 2009 at 08:00 PM

It sounds like you had quite the application cycle! Who initiated the discussion re: deferring for in-state tuition, you or UW? Also, did that mean you had to move out there this year, find a job, etc., in order to qualify for in-state tuition? I'm just curious, because I applied to a few other state schools of which I'm not a resident.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I'm trying to figure out how I can make some things work in my favor. For example, I'd rather go to Rutgers Newark over Buffalo (purely because I hate the cold, as superficial as that sounds), and have been recruited to teach at a school in Newark...so I'm thinking of perhaps starting the same dialogue with Rutgers. Thanks again!

White Jew, love it! I am in the same boat :)

Thanks!

Thanks so much! Just waiting...

Getting off the WL
Saturday, October 24 2009 at 08:00 PM

Hey, Your profile is so helpful. I was wondering if you did anything special to try and get off the Wisconsin WL? I'm on the American and UC Berkeley WL's right now, and although both basically say you can't do much to increase your chances of getting off the WL, I've heard that every little bit can help. Any advice you have for dealing with the WL would be great. Also, did you make a seat deposit elsewhere while you were waiting to hear back from Wisconsin? When did they finally let you know you'd been accepted? I know it varies for each school, but it would be nice to have a general idea.

Thursday, March 12 2009 at 08:00 PM

your profile is great! im waiting on a decision from wisconsin right now and if i get in i dont think i'll be able to turn it down. :) How do you like Madison?

Thursday, April 01 2010 at 08:00 PM

Hey Katz, congrats on UW. I've seen your posts from here as well as TLS and am happy that you're finally headed to Madison this fall. I'm applying this fall, UW is definitely my top choice. Go Badgers.

Wisconsin
Thursday, August 13 2009 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, its just too bad. Wisconsin was the only rejection that really hurt. Oh well, maybe I'll see you at Mifflin?? : )
