Extra Curricular Information

Shooting for the stars. My GPA is low but I have a legit addendum. I think the adcomms that actually read my application (and don't throw it in the auto-reject pile) will be willing to overlook it.

Things that will get me into schools:

*Have a Masters Degree with 4.0/4.0

*Kick arse PS and DS - but this could very well be my own subjective point of view.

*I can juggle

Now I know where I'm headed, Here's a few more things about me.

-Started a major website having to do with hotels/travel (probably NOT possible that you haven't heard of it).
-Went to U of M for undergrad and The Ross School of Business.
-Born in one country and transplanted to the US due to the political instability of my birthplace.

Despite all this I am a very functional learning disabled individual, and have obviously found ways to cope and overcome this.

Additional info & updates

11/17- Relatively early admit with Dean's scholarship from Depaul. Definitely will have to think this one over in the light of the larger ranking vs. money question as the other acceptances/rejections roll in.

12/13- Deferred at UMich today via their online status check.

12/14- Accepted to MSU via thin white envelope. Major Tier 4 backup, but will be interesting to see their scholarship offer that they say will be mailed no later than Feb.

Christmas card from WashU and another advertisement from Notre Dame. This school literature is crazy -Especially the ones in skinny white envelopes.

Got an acceptance from IU-B with some money. Hard to tell when I actually got it since the envelope has that umistakable and mangled lost in the mail look. Better late than never.

1/6- Got a letter from Notre Dame notifying me that I was on the provisional list. Guess only thing to do is to keep sending them continued interest letters.

1/18 - Withdrew from Indiana. Good luck to all of you that are still waiting to hear from them... Did it for you!

1/19 - Rejected from Northwestern- letter was short and sweet.

1/22 - Hmm had better days. 2 rejections waiting in the mailbox. Wasn't surprised at Uchicago... but BC? That's a shame. Guess the rumors are true. Even if you have the LSAT can't get in without at least a 3.5 GPA.

1/24 - In at Ohio State via phone call! Packet is in the mail.

1/25 - Got the controversial "Passed intial review" email from Boalt. Hope is to be had!

1/27 - Found out I was waitlisted at U of I via email this morning.

1/29 - Got what I suspect is OSU's offical paperwork. What I thought would be more like a packet, turned out to be a congratulatory letter and a couple pages that mention how to pay your tuition deposit and the Admission policies.

1/30 - Wow... I know LSN had a "Waitlist King" last cycle I think I should nix the current username and reemerge as Waitlist King II. Ok so here's the situation: Waitlisted at GW okay... whatever. But then, waitlisted at Maryland?! Whaaat? Not much to think about there- Just gonna withdraw. I think I'm going to have to write at least 5 continued interest letters. WTF!!

-Got some more literature from OSU saying they'll be keeping in close contact with me and to both check out their website and contact them with any questions. Least somebody loves me! :)

1/30 - Okay so after rereading the Asst. Deans email, I'm NOT waitlisted at UIUC. I'm on "HOLD" which I'm told is a huge improvement from being waitlisted (a.k.a. Virtual-rejection-unless-someone-they-really-want-gives-up-their spot-list). So back to pending status for UIUC.

2/2 - Just saw a tumbleweed. Oh and heard the music from High noon. Can't be good. On a more productive note, I finished a con't interest letter.

2/5 - Just informed that the Univ. Of Washington has my file as complete. Didn't know that it WASN'T?!

2/10- Ohh no. Status checker changed to Decision at Umich. And according to the buzz on LSD doesn't look good. I'm just going to prepare myself now for receiving that thin white envelope from them. Either way I'll be pleasantly surprised if it isn't- and not quite as let down when I do. *shrug

2/12- HO-L-EEEEEE SH** IN AT MICHIGAN !!!!!!!

Know what sucks? Seeing my remaining choices... no names but, EMORY for example, accepting people with 158 LSATs and sub-par GPAs when I've heard absolutely 0 from them.

2/19- UIUC Acceptance came through!

2/20 UDub ding. Found out I wasn't tree-hugger- damn.

3/2 - Big acceptance packet from Emory. 'Bout freaggin time!

3/4 - I can't speak. This morning, SUNDAY MORNING, I got a call from the Dean of Admissions at Yale Law. Because I was expecting absolutely NO ONE to call from ANY school on Sunday I was milliseconds away from choosing a irritated "Yeah???" instead of a cordial "Hello." Thank god my brain chose the latter. Everyone, I'm in arguably the best law school in the nation. Therefore NOTHING absolutely NOTHING else matters. HOLY COW. I couldn't breathe- still can't. Thanks to all of you that have watched my cycle and given me kind words of encouragement and congratulatory pats on the back. My cycle is officially over.

3/13/07- Accepted at Cornell which was a little strange as I emailed a withdrawal right after I was accepted to Yale. But the acceptance must have already been in the mail. Would have been an issue had Michigan and Cornell been the only noteworthy schools to accept me. I'm still reeling from the Yale acceptance. And in utter shock with how my options have played out.

Congrats on DePaul man. That gives me a lot of hope. When did you hear and when did you apply?

Good Luck

Looks like we're around the same Index for Notre Dame. When did you submit/complete your apps?

LSAT %iles
Friday, May 12 2006 at 08:00 PM

Well, Michigan took me with an LSAT a point below their 25th percentile (thank-you, Sarah Zearfoss), so that has to mean our chances are good for Cornell, is my take.

Good luck to you too
Tuesday, December 05 2006 at 07:00 PM

And congrats on your early acceptance! I'm hoping to hear good news from somewhere soon, are you EA for BC?

re:
Wednesday, October 04 2006 at 08:00 PM

Thanks! I'm not sure what my first choice is right now. I'm going to wait until most my decisions to come in before I start thinking like that because, honestly, I stand little chance at many of them. But I think it's pretty clear that the ones i've ranked "3" are my top choices.

Thanks

UIUC sent me a letter in the mail. The deferral letter came in a thin white envelope.

you did find my wall. :) Good luck to you, as well. I'm sure you will get accepted to very many of these schools!

Congrats on MSU! Hopefully my letter is following soon. For a Tier 4 to scoop you up they'll have to offer some serious$$

Saturday, December 09 2006 at 07:00 PM

Hey man, just got an acceptance to DePaul...you think there's a chance you'll end up going there?

good luck
Saturday, December 23 2006 at 07:00 PM

we share some schools on our lists...good luck man.

haha
Monday, December 18 2006 at 07:00 PM

thanks, same to you. I also got defered to michigan early decision, Michigan has a history of letting people off the defered/waitlist a couple days before classes start so I am just preparing to sweat it out.

UIUC
Wednesday, June 28 2006 at 08:00 PM

It came in a white, 8x10 envelope. The primary letter mentioned the scholarship right in the first paragraph.

Did you apply early decision at Notre Dame? I did, and my letter just said they would review my app again during the regular decision apps.

BC
Monday, July 17 2006 at 08:00 PM

whats up data ... yeah BC seems to be odd but they get a huge number of applications. The package was really nice, a ton of info about everything from clerkships to grad housing all in a black folder. Good luck with all your apps, I'm sure you will have some great choices.

thanks
Tuesday, January 02 2007 at 07:00 PM

good luck to you too! these applications are killing me, wonder how i'll make it through law school.

LOL
Friday, September 01 2006 at 08:00 PM

Awww. You found me ;-) I'm going to put up my lsn in my siggy eventually. I'm just a bit superstitious. LOL I wasn't sure I would get into Mich--honestly, I dind't have good expectations for the cycle 9thus my not putting up my lsn). I'm quite pleased so far though. I REALLY hope you get into Mich, I'd love to meet you at the ASW. Send Mich another letter reaffirming your interest and tell them that you want to stay in AA for another 3 yrs!!!!

UIUC
Monday, October 23 2006 at 08:00 PM

When I found out I was deferred, the first thing I did was call the admissions office. I talked to Paul Pless, and I asked him what I could do to strengthen my application. He wanted to see my fall grades, and he suggested that I come in for a meeting. A couple of weeks later when I was back in Champaign I called and set it up. The people there are very happy to talk to you, and I'm sure that if you have a good attitude and are very interested in attending, they'll do all they can to make admission happen. Good luck to you and congrats on Ohio State!

Tuesday, December 19 2006 at 07:00 PM

thanks for the well wishes... right back at ya. i just visited chicago last week and i am really stoked on NU, so i hope i can turn that deferral into an acceptance. and as blasphemous as this may sound, i really didn't understand all the hype about UChi.

:)
Monday, December 04 2006 at 07:00 PM

glad i could soften the blow. :)

Thanks!
Friday, April 21 2006 at 08:00 PM

I'm leaning towards Columbia at the moment, especially if they give me some money!

Well, well. . .
Friday, December 30 2005 at 07:00 PM

My dear Data, you are quite the sleuth! ;) No, really. I have a different LSN name than LSD name because I used my LSD name the first time I applied 2 years ago. Ah well. Congrats on the schools you've gotten into so far. I'm still sending good vibes your way about Notre Dame!

IU-B
Tuesday, January 30 2007 at 07:00 PM

Why the quick W from Indiana? They gave you money! Though I guess other applicants will think of you as considerate. Ps. Maryland confuses me.

NOPE!
Saturday, December 23 2006 at 07:00 PM

no decisions yet...the wait is killing me. I see you got a few love notes...any front runners?

Friday, May 12 2006 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the nice note. Yes, Ive racked up quite a few choices by now; still not sure what I did right along the way, but clearly something in there is very compelling to law schools. Even the ones I attempted to withdraw from. You mentioned markets my goal has always been to go back to Alaska, where Im from, and practice there. But I clearly have wide-open options regarding where I want to go to school in the interim, so no complaints there.

Cheers to the legit addendum. UMich is an amazing grab. Good luck on the rest of them. It's a good place to be sitting.

umich
Tuesday, December 19 2006 at 07:00 PM

so do you think you are set on UMich now or are you still looking elsewhere? i'm hoping USC comes soon so i can have peace of mind, and i should be able to get in there... but northwestern for me is the prize i think (at least as of right now, i'll probably change my mind 10 times before summer)

Congrats on Illinois and Michigan dude.

Friday, September 01 2006 at 08:00 PM

I'm holding you to that. I definitely wanna hit a bar or club Sat. night. Sigh...I hate the idea of not going to Mich thoough. You all seem so cool. But I haven't made decisions yet...it's all up in the air.

Props
Wednesday, January 31 2007 at 07:00 PM

I have come across your profile a few times and seriously enjoyed reading through it. Congrats on Michigan! (Like you need to here that one more time). I also wanted to thank you for withdrawing from Indiana for me and for not sounding like a pretentious (EDIT OUT) in your additional information like some people do. lol. Good to see that there are future lawyers out there that still have a sarcastic yet classy sense of humor.

Worth the Wait?
Thursday, August 24 2006 at 08:00 PM

I would guess not receiving the email from Michigan was worth the wait. Where and what did you get your masters from?

Thanks!
Wednesday, January 31 2007 at 07:00 PM

You know, I seriously considered retaking the LSAT and actually buckling down for a year, taking a class, etc.. Then I realized that I would be perfectly happy going somewhere like Indiana. I love the midwest and am not too much of a big city girl. Anyways, look me up on facebook, etc. if you have them. What did you get your masters in? tty P.S. I sent Indiana an email telling them that you told me I could have your scholarship money... If that doesn't work, I am going to the gas station tomorrow to buy a dozen scratch offs. (fingers crossed)

Actually
Wednesday, January 31 2007 at 07:00 PM

I'm not from there, but all of my extended family lives in Chicago so I vacation in Wisconsin, Michigan, Chicago, etc. I also know some people at Bloomington now bc my bf is from Indiana. Anyways, tty and work on that myspace page!

Supplemental Info
Thursday, August 24 2006 at 08:00 PM

I need to get the letters of continuing interest out tomorrow., especially for Michigan. Unfortunately, work has been getting in the way. I'm also trying to get a couple higher ups at the firm to write further letters of recommendation.

look at you, too!
Monday, July 17 2006 at 08:00 PM

hey man, don't stress too much about UW when you've got Mich. Michigan is a great school, I would say you are very lucky to be going there but we both know its not luck ... just a whole lot of hard work that paid off! For me and UW I have a feeling it had a great deal to do with my environmental law-themed personal statement and interests. I think it is an area they are trying to beef up. And actually I used the guidelines for the UW PS to write the essay I sent to every school. But I still think BC is my number 1 ... I really want to be on journal for both 2 and 3 L and all of the journals at BC are of great interest to me so that is what is drawing me there right now. Duke just might be the only place that could overtake it. Now I'm just crossing my fingers for money from BC. How about you? Would you take any of your other acceptances or pendings over UM? (excluding yale, thats an obvious yes...) ... Cornell is nice and small, I'm actually taking a class where I have to use the law library right now, and the facilities are real nice ... but then again I have heard the UM law quad is second to none if you like the old style buildings. Ahhhh decisions decisions. Anyways congrats on a great cycle so far ... you stayed so positive through the first part of the acceptance rush, I was real happy to see UM come through for you. OK back to writing this stupid essay. Good luck.

Congrats!
Friday, December 30 2005 at 07:00 PM

Holy CRAP. CONGRATS on Michigan! I'm so excited for you! Are they a top choice at the moment? While I was upset at being rejected, I was pretty much expecting it with my numbers. UCLA would be an incredible surprise if I somehow managed it, though. :) Right now, scholarships aside, University of the Pacific is my top choice. I like California, and when I visited 2 years ago, I loved UoP's feel. If only they could compete with Hamline's scholarship offer. I want to go into public interest work, so scholarships are a fairly large factor for me. I like DePaul, too, except I emailed the admissions director over a week ago asking for reconsideration for more scholarship money and I haven't heard anything back yet which is frustrating. We'll see. I visit Pacific this coming Friday! Congrats again on Michigan. You have some fantastic options. Oh. . .and don't rail on people with 158 LSATs. I'm one of them! ;) Okay, so if I got into Emory and you railed on me, I don't think it'd bother me too much anyway. Ack, enough babbling. . .I need to figure out how to fill out NeedAccess since UCLA wasn't kind enough to give me a decision before their financial aid deadline (2 March). Yick.

Congrats...
Thursday, January 11 2007 at 07:00 PM

on U of M! That's an amazing opportunity. And although I can't say I have a Masters, your acceptance gives me hope since our indexes are nearly identical at our schools in common. Good luck the rest of the way!

word
Thursday, January 11 2007 at 07:00 PM

Yeah it'll be interesting to see how the minor difference affects us. You're right that I put myself at a disadvantage by applying later, but I thought it very important to include my fall grades to prove my recent upward trend as well as a third recommendation that I got in January. Regarding Emory, I like it... the campus is beautiful, quality of life is high, the location in a suburb but close to everywhere you'd want to go in Atlanta is perfect. I personally want to be in DC/VA or the Midwest though, so I decided not to apply. I hear the profs are great in the law school, but career services and the alum network are lacking a bit if you're not in the top half of your class. Feel free to email me with any specific questions.

u dub...
Saturday, December 23 2006 at 07:00 PM

i hear they are extremely unkind to on washington residents....ehhh who wants 340 days per year of rain anyways?

UDUB??
Sunday, January 28 2007 at 07:00 PM

Weird eh? Dinged at UDUB and getting in at Michigan...Should make your resume writing pretty easy Michigan, Michigan, Michigan...that being said, best of luck, though I think your M.A. should make a huge different. WHo cares about your freshmen year scores. Apps are so random

Emory

UofM
Thursday, August 24 2006 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, your excitement came out a little bit in your play by play. A bit. I grew up 20 minutes from Yale in Milford, CT, and I actually like New Haven a lot now that I've been out for a while. (Most people from my hometown are bitter towards Yale/NH.) I also have a friend who is at Yale now and she loves it. UofM put me on their waitlist, so I'm doing everything I can to get to the top of their waitlist. I'm visiting on March 16th, sent in a letter of interest, a couple letters of recommendation, and will write another letter after visiting. I have a couple friends there as well, so I'm doing everything I can to keep them reminded of my application.

oh my god...
Saturday, December 23 2006 at 07:00 PM

dude...congrats on YALE. i havent visited your page for a while and notices all these Ws next to all of your schools...INCLUDING mich...then i saw the yale acceptance...what did you say to the dean of admissions? i would have cried...literally. anyways man congrats to the 100th degree. blessing.

Yup...
Saturday, September 16 2006 at 08:00 PM

I realized it after I sent that message. I'm a little slow on the upkeep sometimes... definitely not Yale material. :)

OH SNAP
Wednesday, January 31 2007 at 07:00 PM

YALE! That is soooo awesome! I am so incredibly happy for you! Congrats!

so...

Holy shit, congrats on YALE!

Suite.

data data data yale yale yale es bueno.

yeah
Wednesday, January 31 2007 at 07:00 PM

Its just taking forever to hear back from schools! Unfortunately, I got rejected from UT today. That is pretty depressing. I know I had barely a chance, but the prospect of leaving behind everyone and everything behind (long time boyfriend included) that I have known for 24 years really sucks. It was pouring down rain when I opened the letter in my car so I guess that is appropriate. lol

Civil War
Thursday, January 11 2007 at 07:00 PM

Woah, wait just a minute... "you southerners" are bitter?? Just because I'm going to school down here doesn't mean I forgot my northern Ohio roots. The Civil War (or The War of Northern Aggression as some call it down here, haha) turned out as it should have and most of Emory would agree since we actually have just as many NY/NJ students as GA students. Though if I end up at W&L who knows how I'll feel in three years ;-)

congrats
Wednesday, June 28 2006 at 08:00 PM

Just wanted to offer congrats to a fellow Wolverine! Wish you all the best at YALE!

...
Wednesday, June 28 2006 at 08:00 PM

I also wanted to get out of Michigan if at all possible...I have lived within 20 minutes of A2 since I was three...it is time for a change. I was confused by your comment though. State is in the fourth tier, and Wayne is in the third (gotta have safeties), but everywhere else is in the top 50. I'm hoping to stay in the Big Ten, so I can watch at least one Michigan game while I'm in law school (the sad part is that this is only half a joke).

Thanks!

Hey man, thanks for the comments! You did awesome yourself... that Yale acceptance is incredible. I'm leaning heavily towards USD, but Miami or an NYC school are still possibilities as well. Time will tell. You're lucky you don't have a decision to make... haha

I am to please.

Speaking of "I am to please", I read a sign above a convenience store toilet that once read, "We aim to please. You aim too, please". This urinary blip has been the source of my legal inspiration for many years now. Okay, I'm a buffoon, but at any rate, thanks. I'll likely be attending Washburn. It's no Yail, which was my fourth choice behind Brown University Law and Princeton Law. I haven't heard anything back from those f-bags yet, so I guess I'll be a sneaka in Topeka (it's all I could think of that rhymed with Topeka at that given moment three seconds ago). It makes a lot more sense financially for me and the family--namely me. Best of luck to you, sir. Looks like you're jamming a foot in this cycle's arse. Coup deaux's to you.

Decisions...

Yeah, I haven't made any decisions yet.. I've narrowed it down to GW and Emory (but I am also waiting for 6 schools). Emory's scholarship blew me away tonight, so I'm almost leaning that way, but I've got some ASWs to check out. If I somehow get Penn (and I won't), then I am going.

btw..

Randomly surfing this site and came across your profile... all I can say is, wow!! I bet all those schools that waitlisted/rejected you would feel pretty silly if they saw your profile. ;) So, Yale, huh... awesome. You might arguably be the most deserving of a YLS acceptance on this site. Way to show the LSAT gunners! Will I see you at the April ASW?

Holy cow - I remember you from last fall, when we were comparing 165s and hoping for good news from Cornell. And now you've up and got accepted to Yale. It's been said before, but well done, and congratulations.
