Additional info & updates

Now I have two offers! UIUC and BC. They are strong regionally, but which one is more 'national' relatively? Hmm.....

I got into GW via email. Also waitlisted at Columbia, which I consider to be an achievement in itself given my crappy numbers. Well, I have a few qns that I need help on:

1. Does getting into the reserve list at Columbia gives me a little edge should I apply for transfer after 1L?
2. Does Columbia really evaluate the application all over again from the reserve list, or it is basically the same 'waitlist' backup elsewhere. Any take on this?
3. GW and BC..which is more national or better for CA?
------------------------
(2/4)
Accepted by BU via letter. Guess I am now faced with the BC v BU v GW question. If solely by national reach, should I go with GW?

....Also, where are the CA schools? Now virtually all the pending applications are for CA schools. I need an acceptance from CA badly!

(2/17)
So the delayed rejection from UVA came finally. Small cream envelope. Wonder why they want to defer in the first place...
As the days passed, T14 dream is moving further away...

(2/17)
Oh my goodness!!! I am in Michigan!!! I still can't believe it. Came in today by mail - right after the UVA reject.

Michigan is one of my dream T14 school! With my numbers it was a long shot, but I made it! After being defered on 1/17, I sent in an additional essay about my current tsunami reconstruction work in Indonesia with the UN.

My experience tells me that Michigan is really one of those schools that truly look at the 'overall' of an applicant. In this age of USNews obsession, I feel that is truly commendable.

All the best to the rest! One thing - never give up!

(2/23)
My second T-14 acceptance from Berkeley! Now I have to decide whether to be in CA to be closer to where I want to work, or go to Michigan for three years. Are there geographical advantages, or Michigan's reputation overrides Berkeley's proximity?

Tks smv1981! Would definitely check out the group. Congrats to you too!

BC

probably has a stronger national rep

Tks!

I figure from all those BC vs BU discussions. By the way congrats on your acceptances! Especially on GW, which I hope to get in too but am still waiting...

NYU Complete

How did you know when you went complete for NYU? Are you just going by your status on LSAC?

Tks...

For the encouragement Wes Mantooth. Yeah, I really hope to get an offer from a CA school, as CA is where I want to practice ultimately...But so far nothing heard out.

Thanks

for the info. Congrats on your load of acceptances. Perhaps we'll end up at the same Cali law school!

CA

I think you'll be hearing from CA schools soon, namely, Boalt. In terms of Bolat, I think your chances are really great; they put the most weight on GPA than any other school, so your index there is really high. (they havn'e rejected anyone yet with your index!) good luck.

Why CA

Just attracted to the west coast in general and the warmer weather and lifestyle...but I am open to other regions.

From what I know . . .

Columbia waitlists a lot of people and only accepts a few from it. E.g. in recent years,. they have been known to waitlist like 600 people and only accept 30 from those. So, my chances are astronomically miniscule, but, I guess there is still some hope; I wasn't sure if I wanted to live in NY anyways, a little intimidated by such a huge city. As to you, I am sure you'll be hearing from CA schools soon. Good luck with your outstanding apps and let me know when you decide where you will attend. Take care!!

It appears that . . .

congragulations are in order. Great job on being accepted to your top pick!! Enjoy Michigan.

Congratulations!

You got the Cali acceptance you were hoping for! I'm not a good source of information because I would give my right arm to go to Boalt, but being at a top CA law school could get you as far in the state of CA as MI could. Plus Berkeley is friggin awesome.

Mich v. Berkeley
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

Really, the reputations are almost identical, so don't choose based on prestige. I would choose a school based on either the location you want to work or the city you like more. On both accounts it would be hard to argue with Berkeley .

Thanks

which school did you pick?
