Additional info & updates

Headed to NYLS!! I'm excited even though things didn't work out as planned - the new building will be killer.

Also, I'd like to say that I was a little bummed out that, by looking on here, I was judged solely on the basis of my numbers. I was sure that my medical problems and difficult coursework would excuse the GPA, but I was mistaken. You can't blame the schools for emphasizing numbers, because USNWR focuses on them, and the employers eye those ranks. Higher numbers = money in this game, and I didn't realize it until far along in the process.

I'm excited to go back to school, and after the road I've been on, I completely trust my ability and firmly believe that I can do some great things if I work hard enough.

Thanks!

UPDATES:::
Santa Clara out of nowhere sent me a waitlist notice, about 6 months after I went complete. Weird. And BLS gave me a call to ask about me joining the PT program... the woman was nice but I had to say I took the money from NYLS over rep.

I still have to decide on my schools. I think I'll wait until more acceptances come in, but even with a EE degree, I'm not so sure IP law is my thing, and that seems to be Cardozo's strongest assest. Good luck!

Did they really take 2 months to give you the complete email?

Thanks for the kind words :) Let me know what you end up deciding in regards to SLU. If you're staying with the school, I'll hope to see you this summer.

Yea, it was a small white envelope. I think I'm going to withdraw, so hopefully there will be one more spot open for you.

Congrats

I see you're from Missouri, have you been to NYC? I can tell you from experience (I live here) that BLS is wayy better than NYLS. They have a much better rep regionally (if you plan on working here) and many firms recruit at BLS and not NYLS. If I had to choose between SJU and NYLS, I'll still take SJU for the recruitment. Just doesn't seem like many firms recruit at NYLS. But if, as you say, you will be in the top 15% with $$, I'd guess that you should be safe. In any case, you look like you're headed for good things bro, maybe I will see you in the Fall at NYLS, SJU, or BLS, lol! Good luck on the rest.

For sure

I anticipate law school will be TOUGH. It's always nice to have some friends in the same situation hah. Keep me posted on where you will be man.

What are the negatives you've heard about BLS? I haven't visited the campus yet either. Congrats on your acceptances and the $.

Am heading to New York/New Jersey for the grand tour (six law schools in four days!). Will know more after. Yes, the money from NYLS is compelling.

Seton Hall
Thursday, January 31 2008 at 07:00 PM

As for Seton Hall, it moved up in the rankings and the law building is supposed to be impressive. I'm considering Rutgers, as well. I'll know more after I visit.

staying in NYC
Monday, March 24 2008 at 08:00 PM

Yeah - NYC is a def for me as I've lived here all my life... I still have a few more days to give my acceptance to Hofstra so I got fingers crossed for Brooklyn and Cardozo.

Hey bro
Saturday, December 15 2007 at 07:00 PM

Congratulations on finding your path to a great career man. Best wishes at NYLS. It looks like SJU for me if BLS and Cardozo don't come through. Keep in contact with me, we can compare our first year experiences. My e-mail is below. Good luck!

Yes, I definitely want to live in the East Village building. I know it has limited availability though, so I may just end up living at home with my parents in Brooklyn and commuting. I definitely don't want to deal with having to find my own place the first year.

hey man, i see you're going to NYLS in the fall. I most probably am as well :)

hey
Friday, August 03 2007 at 08:00 PM

yea, I'm thinking of living in the apartment building for the first year, and then see what happens after that... probably would move out starting 2nd year. However, nothing for sure yet, what about you?

..
Friday, August 03 2007 at 08:00 PM

one of the most important factors was the relative proximity to the law school.. and decent neighborhood the apartment building is in. Yea, the rent is quite steep, but thats NY for you. anyway looks like you'll be my classmate next year, barring any last minute changes:)

Thanks!
Saturday, March 22 2008 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, I was thinking about living the East Village apartments, but the rent comes out to $1,200/month for a small 3 room apartment (a little too steep for me). I'm looking into Brooklyn for some cheaper prices.

Went to admitted students day at NYLS. It was impressive! Actually made some contacts among alumni for internships. Liked it better than some higher ranked schools I was admitted to. Loved Tribecca. New building will be great. Not sure about the dorm though, but I might not find anything better or cheaper.

housing
Thursday, January 31 2008 at 07:00 PM

Will they send out roommate requests before you pay your second deposit? Did you pay both? I thought everything to do with housing was on hold until both deposits are paid?

transfer
Sunday, January 06 2008 at 07:00 PM

No, I'm going to stick with the evening program. I love my job and its giving me good contacts so I'll stick here for all 4 years.

NYLS
Tuesday, March 25 2008 at 08:00 PM

I'm not really sure. I went to visit NYLS earlier this year before I applied. I loved the class I sat in on and the professor made one of the most boring classes you'll take as a 1L very amusing. I also loved how the law school isn't spread out over several blocks and everything is very central. The concern is that since there are so many higher ranked law schools in the area will law firms and employers will overlook the school. What did you like about the school? Were you able to go to the accepted students day?

Thanks
Monday, February 25 2008 at 07:00 PM

haha thanks I like to travel...unfortunately I won't be going to NYLS. I think I am leaning towards rutgers-camden and villanova.

Hey man
Saturday, December 15 2007 at 07:00 PM

So as things turned out, I am going to be in Brooklyn in the Fall. Just an update. Any updates with you? Good luck again.

hey, i think i saw somewhere that you already paid the 2nd deposit... did you receive anything concerning housing yet?

Re: NYLS
Monday, March 31 2008 at 08:00 PM

For me, it did come down to geography. My long-term goal is to settle down in the Oklahoma/Texas area, so I withdrew from NYLS. I was very impressed by the NYLS admitted students day, so it was a hard decision.
