Additional info & updates

If you're applying to SLU, or attending, please feel free to message me.

12/31/2007: Message from U Chicago stating that they've received my app. Long list of things to include in the app, though they're all there. I'm going to mark this one rec'd.

01/02/2008: Mailed out the rest of my aps today (some require a signed form along with a check/money order form of payment).
Emails from Tulane and UMKC stating they've rec'd my applications. UMKC was very friendly and responded that they'd rec'd my app about an hour after I submitted it.

01/03/08 Rec'd at U of Illinois via email.

01/04/08 Rec'd at UT via email at 12:00AM
Rec'd Loyola Chicago via email.

01-06-08/01-08-08 Rec'd at NESL, UMKC and WUSTL. Nothing from the others yet...isn't 1.5 weeks enough time to say, "Hi there, thanks for applying!"

01-15-08 Complete at a handful of schools, but no word from the school I care most about, SLU. C-mon guys, give me some hope would ya?

01-18-08 In at SIU w/ 13,500 scholarship via a rather nice phone call this morning. No word from them what so ever except, "Hey, wanna go to law school?" It's nice that the first school I've heard from was an acceptance. Thanks guys.
Complete at UMKC via email, I think...confusing email.
Called SLU to check on the status of my app. It was rec'd but wasn't processed. Nice lady I spoke with wouldn't give me a time frame for when it might even be processed, which is upsetting. C-mon guys, lemmie in.

01-22-08 Complete at Loyola Chicago via email. Also got a teaser from Notre Dame about access to a new website (sounded like, hey, here's your admitted students website). Turns it out was just their revamped admissions website. :(

01-23-08 Rec'd at LSU. Only took them 21 days to say, "Oh, we have your application by the way." This sort of pushed this school from, "don't really want to attend" to "could care less" in the back of my mind.

01-25-08 Complete at JMLS via email

01-30-08 Accepted at JMLS via business sized snail mail letter. Thanks guys!

02-04-08 Big day: Accepted at UMKC with fairly large scholarship via phone call. Accepted at Loyola New Orleans via medium sized snail mail letter. No mention of scholarship, but it's nice to be wanted. Dinged at Notre Dame but that was expected, it was an extreme long shot anyway.

02-09-08 Deferred at Loyola-Chicago and rejected at Illinois Urbania: Could care less about either. I'm starting to wonder why I applied to Chicago schools when I don't have any real desire to end up there. Oh well.

02-11-08 Dinged at Tulane today which was a bit of a shock, I thought I had that one locked down. Oh well, no 105 deg Louisiana summers for me, for shame! Moving on.

02/20/08 Complete at SLU via phone call. Right after the call, I rec'd an email stating I'd gone complete. We'll see which one is more accurate as it takes about a month from the complete date to get a decision. Lemmie in guys!

02-25-08 Waitlisted at LSU though I'm not 100% sure why. Similar and lesser numbers have gotten in, oh well.
Rec'd a handwritten note from the dean of UMKC which was a nice touch.

Summer Institute

I did not apply for the summer institute. I am graduating in the summer from my undergrad and won't be able to attend if offered. Good luck to you on your app to SLU. How do you like living in SLU?

Grad
Thursday, October 18 2007 at 08:00 PM

From what I've heard/been told that it helps but not really that much. A grad degree is a strong "soft" factor and won't tie into your GPA at all. It might help to say in your PS about how and why your GPA has improved. You have a lot of soft factors working for you, you should be in good shape. Just make sure your LOR are good. I do know at this point if I don't do well enough on my LSAT I am applying to PhD programs because they care more about your Grad GPA. So you may want to keep that in mind. Good luck with your cycle!

Just work hard in studying for your LSAT. You'll end up where you want to be.

With your GPA and grad degree, if you can pull off even a 154 you should get in eh? Look at lsac's page and pull up the gpa/lsat spread for SLU.

Thanks!

SLU seems to be taking their time this year. I have not heard anything. I looked at last years stats and they already had a lot of acceptances at this point. The waiting game continues. Good Luck.

Hey! I just received my acceptance to SLU today! I have my fingers crossed for you!!!!

not sure...
Thursday, October 04 2007 at 08:00 PM

I'm still waiting to hear from UW-Madison. I love Madison and paying in state tuition there would be nice. I'm happy I got in at SLU, but I was a little unhappy with how the admission process there worked. Until I got my acceptance today, I didn't get a single email, letter, or phone call saying that they had received my application or that it was complete. I had to call to make sure they had everything. Nonetheless, I really like St. Louis and SLU seems like a great place. If I don't get in at UW, there is a chance I'll end up there. But, if I do get in at UW, I'll make sure and withdraw my application ASAP. Good luck to you!

I really am not sure which school I am leaning towards (of my acceptances so far). If I do end up in the midwest, it would probably be at Mizzou though. I feel like it would give me a better opportunity to choose where I work (KC vs. StL), and I used to live in KC. Also, I would get in-state tuition after the first year. But right now that is pretty much just speculation though, as I really would like to visit the campuses first, and also see if any school gives me any scholarship money.

Congrats on SIU

they said i should hear back from them next week...i'm really hoping for an acceptance, but i wouldn't be unhappy having to choose between SLU, Loyola, or Marquette. have you heard from SLU? are you going to hear soon? i'm pulling for ya!

New Era.

Indeed, Also, I am part-time so that I can use my master's degree I just got and teach either high school or undergrad classes during the day, so that helps since my LSAT's were just not earth-shattering. Luckily my UGPA does suck but I am graduating with 'highest distinction' with my master's so hopefully that rising trend thing could help lubricate the possibilities... I have family who just moved there for the first time and I have never been there so if SLU says 'yes' I am there as well. Its your home I presume? Good luck and while SIU is not a perfect parallel indicator, the scholarship + admissions should equate an SLU admissions... Good luck and keep me posted.

Top choices
Wednesday, January 09 2008 at 07:00 PM

So far my top choices are UF and Case Western. I'm not leaning towards SLU too much, just because I haven't received any scholarship money. Good luck to you and hopefully you will get in! It seems like you should considering we have almost the same statistics (my GPA is now updated). I will try to help your cause and withdraw my acceptance if I get into one of my top choices soon haha :-)

First Choice Response
Saturday, June 30 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hmm...top choice is Temple because it is a great school, close to home and really affordable, BUT I've been getting some money elsewhere so the choice is getting more complicated. Drexel is also really appealing because it has a leading health law professor, Barry Furrow....I'll have to see what the other outcomes are...SLU is also appealing because of it's health law reputation

Nah, my boss took a month of that time getting his LOR together. So it took them maybe 2 weeks tops, and the delay was b/c it was around the holidays, i think. I think you're in at SLU.. I know a lot of people who go there, and if you plug away at it (like my roommate), you can line up a posh job at the end of your first year. You're in especially good shape if you want to stick around in St. L, from what I can tell. Let me know how it goes, I feel like part of the SLU law family at this point haha.. and keep your eyes open for the free pen they send you when you get in.

I'll strongly consider SLU if I get the 1843 scholarship...if not UW-Madison looks like the top choice thus far. You'll get into SLU for sure with a 158 and a graduate degree. You shouldn't have any problems being a Billiken in the Fall!

Accepted at SLU!
Tuesday, December 26 2006 at 07:00 PM

BDeauman, Received a packet today from SLU (with a pen as well) and if it were not for an acceptance from Utah (my local school), SLU would be a serious contender. I am withdrawing, with the hopes that my spot goes to you! I wish you well on this cycle and hope you get in soon. Let me know what happens.

summer program
Monday, August 16 2004 at 08:00 PM

summer program starts may 22/26 and goes until mid july. Rather intensive of only 25 students per year and only (according to my letter) 50% make it, but I'm going to inquire to see if those are just scare stats. I am considering it but would prefer to see IUI, John Marshall, or MSU offer me something in full to compare..... beggars cannot be choosers thus far for me.

My acceptance was to the full time program... But I think I will be withdrawing. Too expensive to attend without a scholarship.

Question RE: SLU
Saturday, June 30 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hi B: You wrote me a bit ago about SLU and I thought I would share my acceptance with you. I know it is one of your top choices, can I ask what you like most about it or why it is one of your top choices? I know I was told about it because of its health law reputation and I am now really considering it because I was given a scholarship that definately makes it a possible option. Look forward to hearing from you....
