Extra Curricular Information

Looks like my cycle is coming to an end. Here's more info on my soft factors:

-4 years of military service, all stateside, prior to UG (I'm skeptical that it has helped with admissions, as my accept/reject look fairly by-the-numbers, but maybe it was a soft factor that helped the aid committees with scholarship offers, as all but one of my acceptances made offers)
-Belonged to a few honor societies during UG, which from start to finish took me 2.5 years, not a very spectacular EC I'll admit
-Year 1 of UG was at a CC.
-Cum Laude, Dean's list 4 times
-Study abroad at University of Cambridge

Scholarship amounts are totals over 3 years.

Additional info & updates

4/19 Rejection from Columbia. That officially ends the cycle, as I've sent withdraw notices to the other schools I haven't yet. The final tally: 6 acceptances, 5 scholarships, 2 waitlists, 2 hold/rejections, and 1 outright rejection. Couldn't be happier, as I feel I'm winding up at exactly right place for me (weird how that always seems to work out). Go Blue Devils!

4/12 Duke's offer increased to 48K. Looks like I'm headed to Durham!!!

4/3 Rejected at NYU, not a surprise. Expecting the same from CLS in a week, blah.

3/31 Waitlisted at UVA.

3/24 Bad news: rejected at Berkeley, first ding of the cycle. Good news: Duke believes in me to the tune of 30K! Take that, hippies!

3/19 In at UCLA!

3/10 scholarship from Emory via mail. I don't think it can compete with what VULS is offering.

3/5 preferred waitlist at GULC. first semi-ding of the cycle.

3/3 merit-based Chancellor's Law Scholarship at Vanderbilt, only req is good standing. Would I be nuts to pass this over in favor of Duke? If I got in, in favor of Columbia?

2/28 DUKE!!!!!!!!!!! via email, SO excited.

2/25 Deferred at Columbia via mail. Still haven't broken the T14, darn. Did score 20K/year at GW, plus free dorm housing, woot!

2/21 Something something something DARK SIDE... Something something something COMPLETE.

2/14 Deferred at Boalt, sigh. Still nada from GULC, ugh. All in all, lame-ass week. Happy Valentine's Day. UPDATE: In at VANDY!! HUZZAH! Update 2: Found out via usps priority mail package.

2/7 A few more schools have gone complete this week, yay! Have not heard word one from G-town, beyond the "Applied" on the status checker. Checked out some of the other Columbia people on LSN from last cycle who applied late, and they didn't hear until April, ugh. It's going to be a long couple of months. Also changed the "received" column to reflect the date my last lsdas report (with my LORs) was pushed out. Not technically accurate, but as the immortal Cartman once said, "Whateva, I do what I want!"

1/31 What a great week. W&M offered me a Grad Fellowship (waiving out-of-state tuition and giving me a job that has a stipend of 4K a year), and threw another 5K on top of it. Sweeeeet. I love Williamsburg, and the chance to go back to Virginia would be wonderful.

1/30 In at GW. This was actually my first choice prior to receipt of my LSAT score. If I get a merit package from them, I'm going to be very tempted.

Also, I forgot to do the dean's cert for BU, argh. Gotta get on that.

1/25 My first acceptance this cycle, I'm going to law school!

1/22 Checked the status checker, and have gone complete at Duke! It's looking more and more like my #1, assuming I get waitlisted at Columbia.

1/20 Complete at UVA. After thinking about it some, I think I'm going to skip the Penn and NW apps - I just don't see myself living in Philly or Chicago.

1/17 Complete at Columbia. Checked a few other status checkers, not complete there. For fun, compiled a list of all my fee waivers.

1/14 Finally got both recs into lsac, so these schools should start going complete soon. Also have a couple fee waivers, so USC, Northwestern, and Penn are being added to the lineup (Friggin UCLA's waiver got to me 10 days late!). Also added the Chiashu #s to the left.

12/24 Done with Apps! Time to find a job for the next 8 months and save up some money :)

12/22 Working on a bunch of applications. Obviously I don't expect to 'complete' until early Jan, but getting a leg up during some slow moments during the holidays...

12/20 169 on the LSAT!! Deleted my old account so that I can *completely* retool the schools I'm thinking about.

12/5 Finished the resume. I've got some finals to prep for, so after that I'll work on the personal statement.

12/1 The Die is Cast!

11/13 Finally happy with my prep test score, still got another couple weeks to improve. Time to finish the PS, and get my Rec's in order.

6/15 solid PS taking shape. still need to work on the resume some...

Taking Dec 07 LSAT, apps will go out late Dec/early Jan after receipt of score

You said GW was your choice before receiving your LSAT score ... were you not testing in the 169 range during practice tests?

Sorry to hear about the rejection. I was just curious how you were notified. I'm also waiting on UCLA too and saw you heard from them too, did they call? Thanks for the info.
