Additional info & updates

12/5/2008 I just received e-mail confirmation from Iowa that I've been accepted. Holy crap. I think I may have some very tough decisions up ahead.

For those wondering how I got into Iowa so soon (or at all), especially with scores and a GPA like mine, I'm attributing it to these factors:
1. I am from Iowa
2. I wrote an Iowa-specific PS
3. I went to a great undergrad institution that feeds lots of students to Iowa Law
I'm not actually sure what got me in, obviously, but I think all of these things were major contributing factors.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

12/12/2008 My status went to "Admitted" on the Iowa site, finally confirming that my admission email wasn't just a cruel joke.

I had an admit from Missouri when I got home tonight and some paperwork for Iowa. 2 for 2 feels pretty good.

12/15/2008 In an Indiana. Hilarious phone call from Assistant Dean of Admission at Iowa where he got mixed up on his list and then called himself a strange man.

12/16/2008
A haiku:
Dear U Florida
Please make your decision soon
I am impatient

12/19/2008 Ohio State rejection came today in a small white envelope. I can't really say I'm too disappointed.

12/23/2008 In at Penn State via email.

01/05/2009 I'm calling it. February 1st is my personal notification deadline.

1/15/09 I'm finally under review at Florida State. Other schools have been utterly silent. Boo.

1/20/09 Received an email that I'm complete and under review at Pitt.

1/25/2009 Rejection from Wisconsin and $10,000 a year from Indiana. I can't really bring myself to feel very much about either of these.

I am anxiously awaiting my last W-2's so I can do my FAFSA. Argh!

1/27/2009 Florida status updated to "Reviewed by committee; decision pending." WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?! Pending what, exactly? Gah. Call to the admissions office did little to shed light on the status. 4 more days and then I'm over their nonsense.

2/13/09 Rejection from Case Western. I'm a bit surprised at that, but whatever. I'm currently shopping for apartments in Iowa City!

2/17/09 Received scholarship from Missouri. $12,000 year.

2/23/09 On "hold" at Pittsburgh. Okay...
Also, where is my decision, FSU? You just sent out a ton of waitlists to people with stats exactly like mine.
I am going to Iowa City next weekend for admitted students day and apartment hunting.

3/16/09 Withdrew from all schools except University of Florida. I just want to know...I'll withdraw from there when I send my deposit to Iowa.

3/23/2009 Florida letter in transit. I think I might be over it. If I really cared, I would have sent a LOCI. We'll see.

3/26/09 Reject from UF. This was my app with the exciting typos, so I can't be too surprised. Still, I loved some of their programs. I'm not going to cry over a school in the 40's when I'm going to a top 30!

I smiled to myself today when I looked at the rankings. UF is now 51...

Hey, looks like we have similar numbers. What's your #1?

Best of luck

We look to have similar apps. I'm hoping for Wisconsin also. Best of luck.

I grew up in Atlanta so UGA is my number one, even though I have a really small shot at getting in there. Florida is probably #2, so maybe we'll end up going to school together next year.

Last year also

I applied to one school last year, wasn't really feeling it. Got a decent start so far this year, good luck!

My status checker stopped working (my password no longer works??) so i had no idea it had changed from all documents received to under review

Hey, congrats on Iowa. That's awesome. Hopefully we hear from Florida soon.

congrats!

congrats on getting into iowa! maybe we'll see each other there. the admissions profile page shows "Admission Decision: In Progress" for me. i'm sure it'll be updated soon enough though. you think you're all set for the cycle or is florida slightly higher on your list?

cool

usc or ucla would be great since i'm living in los angeles right now but that's beyond a long shot. hastings, minnesota and wash univ st louis are the ones i'm most anxious to hear from. i'm really psyched about iowa though. i had serious doubts about whether i would crack the top 30. if i get into the schools i mentioned, it'll probably come down to $$ since they all have great programs.

nice! they finally updated mine too. was wondering what took them so long. still waiting to hear from some places but it's a great feeling to know you've got a great school in your pocket.

Haha, that's funny. I got a call from him too but I was at work so I couldn't take the call. Maybe it's a good thing because I'm pretty sure I would've been so surprised to hear from him that I would just be mumbling gibberish and laughing.

Thanks! Thanks for all the encouragement too, and congrats on your admit to Indiana, what a great school choice so far!

Thanks! Looking forward to Ann Arbor. Congrats on all your acceptances!

Grinnell? Heh, just curious. Congrats on Iowa. Iowa City > Gainsville

Grinnell

Yeah, it's too bad more people haven't heard of it, but I guess even among the best LibArts schools a lot of their names aren't that widespread. Regardless, it's a great school (although I may dispute that it's the "best" undergrad in the state, but clearly I'm biased as well, haha). As for study abroad, I wouldn't really let it weigh in your decision too heavily. You can do work abroad your 1L summer, but from my experience study abroad in law school isn't viewed very favorably. Then again, if you really want to do it, don't let anyone say no...but I wouldn't let it have a huge effect on where you go. Regardless, good luck with Florida, and hope you end up at Iowa!

Congrats on all your acceptances! How did Penn State notify you? Did they send an email or was it just through a letter in the mail?

Thanks you!

It's great to hear things like that. I have been getting a bit down in the dumps and I would love to go to Kent...Chicago is where i'm from and I have no reason to leave haha. Thanks again and congrats on getting into your number 1!

Thursday, October 16 2008 at 08:00 PM

Hey i've been in All Required Documents Received at Florida forever. Are you in the same status?

Ha Yeah
Thursday, July 31 2008 at 08:00 PM

Kinda depressing but hey...I'm sure we'll forget about it soon enough. Least you still got into your numero uno!

UF
Tuesday, September 16 2008 at 08:00 PM

UF just did the same thing to me with the status update thing. I called to ask what that meant and they said that my file had been reviewed but they would not make a final decision until late March to early April. I guess it's kind of like waitlisting. Sucks huh?!

Well I hadn't been considering them at all, I was all set on going to Rutgers but with in-state tuition on top of the scholarship it's hard to pass that up, especially with the economy in the state that it is currently in. The only thing that concerns me is that 90% of their graduates stay in Missouri and I really have no desire to practice in MO after graduation. Has the scholarship changed your plans at all?

Thursday, July 31 2008 at 08:00 PM

yay! :)

Thursday, October 16 2008 at 08:00 PM

Hey, thanks for the condolences. I would say #1 right now would be UT or ASU. Hopefully I hear something soon. Seems like you are good to go with Iowa. Congrats again.

Congrats!
