** The only reason I was so specific about my information is because everyone is always so private about their "soft factors" like someone else can steal them. I'm proud of all of my accomplishments and believe it will absolutely factor into the admissions process. All of these things make up who I am and what I can bring to the law classroom. They're not here for anyone to dispute, bash, or belittle. It's just so others can see that there are reasons people without perfect LSAT/GPA's get accepted to top schools. As the process continues I absolutely hope to be one of those people. I welcome all comments, but don't expect me to stoop below what I know to be a common level of professionalism to respond to rude and offensive comments.

GPA info-Didn't bother to take a look at what my actual GPA was. I didn't remember! LSAC GPA is lower b/c 30 credits did not get accounted for as grades. Who knew?

11/13/08--In at Pitt

12/03/08--Fordham Online status Check indicated Waitlisted. Pleasant Surprise!

12/5/08--Deceptive letter from Seton Hall. I was just looking for key words (congratulations, happy, we're sorry, unfortunately...). Second paragraph "we're happy"...that you've decided to apply. Basically just a thanks for applying your file is under review letter. Bastards!

12/5/08- Super thin letter from Texas. It's a no. Ah Well!! I wasn't really that into Texas I just applied because I could've gotten in-state tuition. I guess it would've helped if I had sent in the residency questionnaire that validated me as a Texas resident.

125/08- Status Checker at Georgetown says "Decision"...dun, dun dun!!!! Super! I'll be out of town for the next 2 weeks so I guess I'll have to wait for my rejection letter-lol

12/05/08-- Cornell--aaahhhh...Cornell. Two days ago online status checker says I don't even have an application on file. Today it says there's a decision as of 11/21/08. This ought to be interesting. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll get rejected from Cornell and GULC in the same day so I can just get it over with. *fingers crossed for some hope at Cornell, and at least some part-time luvin at GULC*

12/12/08--Univ. of Chicago went to from Complete/Review to Decision Pending

12/12/08- Uof Ill went from File Complete to Decision Pending
*** (hoping for letters in the mail when I get back into town)***

12/17/08- No Part-Time Luvin at GULC. Not disappointed at all. Rejection from GULC followed by a tuition scholarship at Pitt. They really know how to make a girl feel special.

12/17/08-Cornell is mocking me!!! I've gone from "no application on file", to "decision", to "applied", to "early action complete". WTF!!!! Well, honestly I'm just glad to know that they got it all together, and I am currently being considered for EA. Seeing as how I specifically applied EA that makes me all warm and fuzzy knowing they respect my decision to want a decision.

12/19/08--Cornell Status checker went to "Decison"....Again!! Hopefully this time it's for real. And of course I'm going out of town..Again! Last time I went out of town I got an acceptance so hopefully this will be the trend.

12/19/08--Uof Ill status checker date changed to 12/17/08 Says decision pending still, but it has an updated date. Hopefully the one school where I am considered a resident will show favor upon my lowly soul and accept me and let me return home .

12/23/08- University of Chicago went to "Decision Mailed" today. So I guess I'll know if I'm U of C bound or not. Applied Binding Early Admission so a yes from them definitively ends this cycle for me. Otherwise fingers crossed for another Chicago school to accept me.

12/30/08-Once again back from out of town...not the same results as before. Rejected at U of C but I pretty much expected it since everyone else got a phone call or an email when their status checker changed to decison--but not me!
And Cornell deferred my EA application to regular admissions. I'm okay with that. It's not flat out rejection--yet.

1/7/09--I haven't gotten JACK SQUAT in the mail from anyone in weeks!! Today, the status checker at Univ of Ill. changed to decision mailed. Let's see how the one school where being a resident counts decides.

1/8/09--Too bad Victoria's Secret doesn't have a law school, because they seem to be the only people I get mail from!!

1/8/09- Boston College finally confirmed they had received my application. I've been emailing them since December. I've been complete for almost 2 months and they haven't so much as emailed me any notification--Thanks BC...you bunch of clowns!

1/13/09--Apparently Illinois sent my letter via pony express because it's been over a week since the status checker said "decision mailed" and I've gotten nothing. But I checked status checker again and it says DENIED!! Oh well. my only in-state hope.

1/13/09- On a better note the Temple status checker changed to decision mailed and at the bottom there's a schedule of fees I owe...I'm going to go out on a limb and using all this "lawyer logic" say I only owe the money if I got accepted.
**informed by a very caring LSN member that accepted people get a congratulations message, and everyone gets the Fee Status Box. Rejected people get a "decision mailed" so looks like it's leaning more toward a No than a Yes"**

1/15/09--Snail Mail from Loyola Chicago--a little bit surprised, but not really phased. Wasn't very high on the list, but I did like the Chicago location.

2/14/09--Big, love note from Indiana-Bloomington via Priority mail.

--Finally decided to stop procrastinating and got my UG school to send the dean's certs. I realized that I had already sent the money to UConn, Howard, and Brooklyn. And since I would actually like to hear back from these schools I figured this particular step was imperative. Got a "complete" from UConn over a week ago via email, and Brooklyn's 'document checker' says I'm all complete. Still haven't heard anything from Howard. I just want to come home one day to an acceptance from somewhere in the DC/Virgina area and/or Chicago.--

1/18/09- Accepted to Rutgers-Newark!! Who knew they had an online status checker? I surely didn't. How did I find out? I was going through old emails from the admissions office and they mentioned a Graduate Online Status checker, that by their own admissions isn't very accurate. So I searched for 20 minutes for this status checker with not much luck. Finally I googled it, and sure enough I log in (without the elusive RUID they swear you need) and I have been 'recommended for admission'--I don't know how long ago this decision was rendered, but it sure makes the email regarding the $5,000 scholarship that I should apply for a lot more contextual. So if you applied to Rutgers-Newark here's status checker.
http://gradstudy.rutgers.edu/statusnotes.shtml

1/19/09-UVA-Received the email as I was sitting at the computer. Apparently they though MLK day was a great day to dole out rejections. Why today? Why not Christmas? Or just wait until my birthday? Oh well...it was a super reach anway, but I had to try.

1/22/09- Snail mail from American

1/29/09- Got put on hold at Northwestern--Score one for the home team. It's a small moral victory if nothing else.

2/2/09- I was accepted by Banana Republic. With a crazy credit limit--I applied regular decision, and I went complete and heard back from them the same day. I just got my packet in the mail.

2/6/09-Quite a few rejections in the last couple of weeks. Most of them I had lost interest in (that mean you Arizona State)!!! I would've like a shot at American, but it just wasn't in the cards.

2/27/09- Letter from Yale that came two weeks ago. I wasn't in a huge rush to open it. I'm no dummy!

*What's with the dean's certifications??? This is a complete waste of time, and now that I've gotten in I'm tempted to ignore schools like UConn that want me to send of this useless piece of paper that shows clearly what my transcripts show. The fact that I can send transcripts tells them that I have no financial holds, and I didn't drop out suddenly as evident by my COMPLETION of a bachelor's degree. AAARRRRGHHH!!! After spending $2k on apps and LSDAS reports I just don't want to spend .50 on postage. THERE! I SAID IT! *

Interviewed at Northwestern-Oct 6

NU Interview
Thursday, August 07 2008 at 08:00 PM

The interview was fantastic. Lasted about 30 min longer than it was supposed to, but the 3L interviewer and I had lots to talk about. He was very interested in my resume and current employment. Went on a tour of the law building afterwards. Overall Great day. It as a sunny 75 in Chicago that week so all signs point to good things. We shall soon see!!

Good luck!
Sunday, November 04 2007 at 07:00 PM

Hi, I see we have similar LSAT/GPA and are both URM. Hope you get into your first choice!

Chicago
Tuesday, October 28 2008 at 08:00 PM

Looks like you have a few Chicago schools up there... it's a great city to live/work/study.

Good Luck
Saturday, October 04 2008 at 08:00 PM

Good luck with your cycle! We are applying to a few of the same schools. Also, thanks for all your hard work. I see you're a military officer. My dad's a retired Captain after putting in 26yrs for this country! Good luck again, I hope we both have much success!

Thursday, November 13 2008 at 07:00 PM

I totally agree with your additional comments. We got the same LSAT scores, too. You go girl! Good luck!

Thank you
Saturday, October 04 2008 at 08:00 PM

So much for the encouragement!!! I'm not really down anymore. In fact I pretty much am just nonchalant about law school and am really leaning towards TFA now. What you're saying really meakes since though. I wish the same god fortune to you! Keep in touch!

Thanks!
Monday, May 12 2008 at 08:00 PM

Thank you for the encouragement. I will keep that in mind! Good luck on your cylce. You have a very diverse background and I am sure you will get into a great law school! Good luck!

It only takes one acceptance
Thursday, August 07 2008 at 08:00 PM

and I got mine!!!!!! Decent size envelope came in the mail while I was on vacation in Hawaii. Maybe I should go out of town more. Definitely did not expect a decision from anyone before Christmas let alone thanksgiving. I am truly grateful to know I'll be attending somewhere. I hope that was just the first a few more acceptances, but if not I am breathing a huge sigh of relief.

Hey
Saturday, August 09 2008 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on Pitt! I haven't been to W&M yet, but I hear it is a GEORGEOUS school. Hope the rest of your cycle goes well! Keep in touch.

Northwestern
Friday, June 06 2008 at 08:00 PM

Ya. Northwestern is my unrealistic top choice, but I would be ecstatic if I got in there. I love the fact that they have a corporate counsel practicuum, and they have interesting ties to sports law. I think my interview went well, she laughed a lot and we talked for an hour or so, so hopefully that is a good sign.

Friday, June 06 2008 at 08:00 PM

Congratulations on getting into Pitt, I hear its a great school. Do you know what type of law that you want to practice?

Thanks and...
Sunday, October 26 2008 at 08:00 PM

The UT status checker didn't change until several days after I had received my acceptance letter. I do not know if they do it with everyone, but many people have gotten a phone call from a woman in the admissions office. Good luck with your cycle!

Friday, October 10 2008 at 08:00 PM

I see you are applying to NU and it's your number 1 choice -- mine too! How did your interview go? I was very happy with mine. We have similar numbers...what do you think are chances are?

Saturday, November 29 2008 at 07:00 PM

haha. I hear you. I was raised and born there. And it will be nice to spend three years there for school. BTW, I see you were active duty for 10 years. You have any interest in JAG or are your interests elsewhere?

Congrats!
Friday, October 24 2008 at 08:00 PM

on your acceptance to Pitt. How are you applying to 4 ED programs? arn't they binding?

Saturday, June 14 2008 at 08:00 PM

My application status check just says complete...and that I'm being considered for Regular Decision...:-\

Friday, October 10 2008 at 08:00 PM

What made you actually go to NU for the on campus interview vs. off campus site? What clubs did you meet with? How would you describe the atmosphere there?

fordham
Wednesday, August 13 2008 at 08:00 PM

Exactly.. how i feel.. congrats on pittsburgh! Are you thinking of sending Fordham a LOCI? im trying to figure out what one would look like...hmmm

Saturday, November 29 2008 at 07:00 PM

I hear ya.

Oh cool!
Friday, October 24 2008 at 08:00 PM

That's a great idea to seek the non-binding ones out. It will be nice to find out early. Best of luck!

Rutgers..
Wednesday, August 13 2008 at 08:00 PM

Because my lsat score is not as strong as i would like for it to be I chose to have them weight my app on my accomplishments. You?

Dean's Certs
Tuesday, September 02 2008 at 08:00 PM

LMAO...you're so right though. This process is expensive enough as it is ($2k on apps and LSDAS reports... REALLY?? WOW) but adding the certs is an added nuisance. Sighs, at least come the summer it will all be over.

Thursday, December 04 2008 at 07:00 PM

Thank you! Yes I'm very Happy! I see you applied to Fordham. I'd love to attend there but decided not to chance it....don't think I have a shot and it's super expensive! And like like you I'm done spending money on this cycle!Good luck to you :)

Dean's Cert
Saturday, October 04 2008 at 08:00 PM

Amen on the Dean's Cert tyraid! Good luck with the rest of your cycle!

Friday, February 01 2008 at 07:00 PM

Some other candidates (on TLS) with numbers better than mine didn't get the link. And the link doesn't even work! :) I read somewhere (from someone who called the admissions office to ask about it) that it was an IT error and should not have been posted yet, so they might have caught it before updating everyone's checker. So don't lose all hope yet! Good luck with the rest of your cycle!

RE: Fee Waivers
Friday, June 20 2008 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the heads up, I'm going to look into those. Congrats on your acceptances and best of luck with those you're still waiting on.

Positive Dust...
Saturday, June 14 2008 at 08:00 PM

THANKS :-) I'll throw some your way too...at least your top schools are still in play.

Friday, October 10 2008 at 08:00 PM

Goodluck with Cornell. Did you apply EA/ED?? You went to final decision quickly!

Friday, October 10 2008 at 08:00 PM

Sounds pretty weird. Best of luck to you! Hope it works out!

Congrats
Saturday, October 04 2008 at 08:00 PM

On your first acceptance. Good luck with the rest of your cycle

Georgetown...
Saturday, June 14 2008 at 08:00 PM

sucks...I know this girl who had a 145 LSAT and applied early decisions...her app got deferred while mines was straight rejected...makes me hate Gtown (even though I know she won't get it, why give her more hope and me none)... Still got my fingers crossed for you and Cornell...

Tuesday, November 18 2008 at 07:00 PM

lol. ya i know and im definitely happy about that! ive only been admitted to two schools, but pitt is my choice so far... :)

Monday, June 11 2007 at 08:00 PM

Haha, thanks. Good luck with everything and especially at Iowa!

Yeah Iowa can suck it
Thursday, July 31 2008 at 08:00 PM

I'm over it now. To be honest, I've heard some not so good things about the law school but who knows. I sure hope something good happens soon. This cycle is getting to be depressing.com haha. Though I was expecting the responses the reach schools gave. I hope you get into your top choices!

Tuesday, July 22 2008 at 08:00 PM

Hey what does the Pitt acceptance package/letter look like because im out of the country but my friend said a package arrived for me from them.

Cornell
Friday, October 24 2008 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, I'm in the regular pool, but I didn't see a deferred option. Good luck!

Friday, October 10 2008 at 08:00 PM

Happy New Year! Good luck with law school decisions...January should be "the" month.

Friday, October 10 2008 at 08:00 PM

Same with me...really hoping NU comes through...I am hopeful. How was your interview?

Best of luck!
Sunday, October 26 2008 at 08:00 PM

I know it's not over, but I'm sure it takes some of the pressure off to have an acceptance. With regard to your question about UTenn, I didn't apply due to the distance. I know it seems crazy but U of L and UK are closer to me than UTenn...I could actually walk to the KY/TN border. My application to NKU was more to do with reality than desire...although I do know several very accomplished lawyers and judges that went there. Like you, I am depending on my soft factors and experience to hopefully offset some of the number's craze. :)

Wednesday, October 01 2008 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on Pitt! I'm jealous. I didn't even have enough guts to apply there because of my LSAT score. It seems to be hurting me a lot. Which school did you play basketball for?

Pitt
Sunday, October 26 2008 at 08:00 PM

I read an article the other day that lauded Pitt for the caliber of lawyers that they consistently produce It's one of the two I got linked up on my page. I think you got yourself a solid win right there, regardless of what else happens in the cycle. Congrats on that and best of luck for the rest of your apps!

Friday, October 10 2008 at 08:00 PM

Glad it went well...so did mine. You think we have a shot with our numbers!?!

Tennessee Basketball?!
Wednesday, October 01 2008 at 08:00 PM

OMG! You played for Pat Summitt?! I love the Lady Vols...have been a fan for over 10 years. In fact, I went to Rutgers over then weekend to watch them play. That is amazing!! That in itself should be your meal ticket into law school. I hope she wrote you a LOR. By the way, Pittsburgh's great. I'm originally from the area, and I hope to go back there if I get into Duquesne. I don't know if you've been there, but it's a pretty city and Pitt's campus is a lot of fun. If you have any questions about the area, fire away!

Wednesday, October 01 2008 at 08:00 PM

I can't imagine what an amazing experience you had with her. Were you on any of the championship teams? I definitely would have gotten her to write me a LOR if I were you...lol. That Rutgers game was INSANE! They were down by 20 at the half and came back to win. I was a little scared they weren't going to pull it out, but they did. I'm sure Pat let them have it at half time. I can't even imagine the stories you have about how tough she is. Sorry if I'm going on and on about her, but she's definitely one of my idols. Quick story: the NCAA Regional Finals were at Temple U a couple years ago, and I volunteered to help work the event. My seats for the game ended up being right next to her family's, so I got to meet them all. They were all so sweet. Then Pat signed my book and briefly chatted with me. It was cool...I was so star struck. Haha!

Friday, October 10 2008 at 08:00 PM

Did you go to NU undergrad?

Friday, October 10 2008 at 08:00 PM

WOW! AWESOME! Good for you. Good luck.

Chicago
Thursday, September 04 2008 at 08:00 PM

Hi, Yes, I only applied to CHicago area schools. I'm a married mom so I'm kinda stuck where I am! Thankfully, I've been really lucky so far. I will probably choose DePaul. Good luck with all your apps!

Tuesday, November 18 2008 at 07:00 PM

i wish victoria's secret had a law school too!

ASU, BC, and Nova
Wednesday, April 09 2008 at 08:00 PM

Nova: I don't remember them actually ever telling me that my application was "complete" now that you ask. I think I was going on a wing and a prayer. The actual decision came via snail mail to my permanent address. ASU: Notified me of completion via e-mail, and then the acceptance was via snail mail to my mailing address (this past Monday). BC: Notified me of completion via e-mail, but still no word on acceptance/rejection. My friend got his rejection to his permanent address so I call or text my mom every day with "BC?" to which she initially responded "not today," but now responds "I will f*@!ing tell you when it comes!"

SOCI
Sunday, October 26 2008 at 08:00 PM

Nope, no sociology at A&M. The whole double major thing took a massive bite out of my electives, so I had to miss out on some of the more fun class like sociology...sad! -(

Wednesday, October 08 2008 at 08:00 PM

As far a Pitt goes, if you want to practice in Pittsburgh for the rest of your life, you can do well with a Pitt degree as long as you graduate toward the top of your class. However, I have talked to many students and graduates and none of them have spoken very fondly of their experience there. It is a very competitive atmosphere. It's the type of place that other students tear pages out of books in the library so you won't have access to them. If that type of ice cold atmosphere is ok for you, then Pitt is fine. However, I would say that if you have another option with similar $$$ and US News ranking opt for somewhere else. I didn't apply to Pitt because my wife has already gotten into Duke, Berkeley, and Michagan, and should get into at least 2 or 3 other T14 schools. So, I have applied to schools in those areas, which is why my list is so long and varied.

I think I should clarify that Pittsburgh itself is great, as long as you don't mind terrible weather. It's inexpensive, the people are nice, and there is a surprising amount to do culturally (museums, theater, sports, restaurants).

thanks

Thanks for sharing my frustration with Dean's cert...

Good luck

Looks like we are in a similar boat. Isn't it annoying how long American is taking even though we got our apps in so early?

Monday, December 29 2008 at 07:00 PM

Dropped by your profile. I feel ya on those dean certifications. Such a waste of paper and postage! Good luck with the rest of your schools!

Friday, October 10 2008 at 08:00 PM

I see you applied to NU before 12/1. We should be hearing back this week. How did your interview go? Goodluck!

Rutgers

I received notification of acceptance via white 8.5x11 envelope postmarked 1/16. It's funny though - I spoke to Anita on Friday about a campus tour and she never mentioned my app.

Honestly, I'm not sure how employers will look at the unaccredited JD. There are schools out there offering programs for paralegal certificates/degrees. They might be cheaper too. Is your friend going to work in Europe or come back here?

Friday, June 06 2008 at 08:00 PM

Haha...I liked the T-shirt. It let me know that someone wanted me after the Minnesota Rejection and Chapman Waitlist. I am pretty excited about Northwestern. Hopefully, I can do well on the next interview.

CONGRATS!!!

...on Rutgers. Are you attending FT or PT? According to the letter, FT orientation is Aug 19-21; PT Aug 19-20.

Thanks for the info, TH0409!I found the link to Rutgers' status checker yesterday, but unfortunately mine has absolutely nothing in it except for my LSAT score :-(

Hey! Just wanted to let you know we have a few schools in common. Howard and Rutger-Newark are my top choices. Haven't heard anything from Howard and recently applied to Newark. So I'm definitely playing the waiting game. KIT and let me know how the rest of your cycle goes!

Yeah I've been complete since october and still no response. I haven't called or e-mailed them though. Just been waiting and checking the status checker.

Soft Factors Congrats.
Tuesday, December 16 2008 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on RU and Pitt. I agree with your comments about soft-factors. I did an immense amount of those. I tend to take them for granted because its such a consistent part of my life. Yet i spoke with a former Duke admissions dean who praised all the work I did and helped me realize their merits and prestige.

good luck!

Hey.. We both applied to Fordham. How long did it take to hear back from them? That's my first choice so I'm really nervous and can't wait to hear back. I just want one acceptance, just for confidence. Like you, I am also hoping the school weighs in my soft factors. We have very similar LSAT scores and GPAs so thank for posting all your soft factors. It helps me feel better. Congrats on your acceptance and good luck on the rest!

LOL!!!

Awesome postings. Super amusing and I co-sign that comment about postage after spending so much on apps/LSAC report fees.

You're still doing great! Leaning any which way towards a particular school?

Hi!
Saturday, November 29 2008 at 07:00 PM

I love you spirit, especially about not being afraid to give your soft skills, it shows that you aren't JUST a score! Congrats on Rutgers! Good Luck with your other schools! =)

Friday, October 10 2008 at 08:00 PM

Thank you so much! It was a very exciting weekend! I AM VERY EXCITED! Not 100% sold on NU...probably won't get any substantial $$...and borrowing $200k plus is ALOT! Howard was via snail mail.

Wednesday, August 13 2008 at 08:00 PM

Saturday, November 29 2008 at 07:00 PM

"1/8/09--Too bad Victoria's Secret doesn't have a law school, because they seem to be the only people I get mail from!!" that cracks me up. i've gotten an average of two catalogs from j-crew a week, and probably a few emails from Victoria Secret as well....haha....what's your top choice?? best, liz

Hold at Cornell
Sunday, November 30 2008 at 07:00 PM

Someone in the admissions office told me that even though i am "early applicant" hold i might not hear back until April. I almost positive this has to be wrong--i was also under the impression that the final decision will be sooner than that. ug...

I'm not shocked by anything with this LS process as sometimes that's the way the ball bounces...Congrats on Pitt & Rutgers, & def wishing you GL with Fordham...

P.S.
Monday, June 12 2006 at 08:00 PM

I don't think it's anyone thing w/the lack of admits...I think w/admissions it's kinda like dating...you like who you like, even if you don't know why...I'm not taking it personal, I'll go where I'm meant to, do well & that'll be enough satisfaction 4 me...

Congrats
Monday, May 12 2008 at 08:00 PM

LOL. You have GREAT humor! I loved your Banana Republic entry! :) Congratulations on your acceptance letterS! Plural. You are now in a position of choices. That's a good feeling! I look forward to seeing which school you decide to grace with your presence. :)

I've had a great cycle. Congrats on your acceptances as well. Are you ready to confirm or are you still holding out?

Thanks
Monday, May 12 2008 at 08:00 PM

Yea, I am too. One thing I can say is that I did a lot but its all honest and I actually participated in every organization I listed. It was not for show. I didn't get in anywhere last year so I am just happy to have somewhere to go!

Decision, decision
Monday, September 17 2007 at 08:00 PM
