Additional info & updates

06/22 - Well it appears the application process has come to a close for me. UW came through with an offer at the very end, but despite my very strong interest in being back in Seattle and practicing on the West coast, Brooklyn's offer was too good to refuse. Unless UW or Fordham drops significant chunk of money on me (which is not going to happen), I'm heading to Brooklyn in August.

05/04 - Brooklyn just sweetened the deal for me. I'm still waiting on U. British Columbia but, it looks like Brooklyn will probably be my destination next year. Even if Fordham accepts me, I don't think they can compete with 35k per year.

04/23 - Cardozo bumped again! What am I going to do?

04/05 - Cardozo bumped to 25k per year. This will be a tough choice. I would love to hear what the LSN community has to say regarding the choice between Brooklyn and Cardozo.

04/03 - Cardozo is back on the table. I sent an email withdrawing my application and a few hours later received a reply from Dean Martinidez asking if increased scholarship money would make a difference. I said yes seeing how Fordham, UW and U. British Columbia are maybes at best. I should hear something this week.

Called Brooklyn Law and was informed that I had recieved two scholarships and a grant totalling $26,000 in all for the first year. If I decide to stay in NY, Brooklyn looks like a really good choice (perhaps even on par with a Fordham given the scholarship amount). Also, I think that my career prospects would be bettter at Bklyn than at Cardozo.

Called up UW and was told that my application was on hold. I really like the idea of being in Seattle, but I'm not sure I could pass up such a good scholarship at Cardozo to go to Seattle U. Hopefully I'll receive some positive news from UW come April that will settle it for me.

Decision deferred at Fordham. Ok, this is starting to suck. On a positive note, I've been admitted to the Masters portion of the U. British Columbia LLB/MA. Now all I need is admission to the law school.

In at Brooklyn via email a day after receiving a big packet from them thanking me for applying and encouraging me to apply for fellowships.

I could really use some advice about how to get off the waitlist at GW. Should I submit another personal statement, reccomendation letters from GW alumni? Help me out LSN Community.

So now I'm trading the inside spread. I'm in at the schools I expected to get into, rejected by the long shots and waiting on the ones where I stand a decent change, but by no means am guarenteed acceptance. I would ideally like a choice between UW, GWU and Fordham. I've got a chance, but I think it will really come down to whether the schools are impressed by my soft factors.

So far this cycle is playing out exactly as I expected. I went for hail marys on such schools like Harvard, NYU and Columbia not out of some sadistic desire to see rejections, but to say I tried. Acknowledging the reality that I'm not going top 10 was a bit difficult, but it has not deterred me. I'll take the best school I can get and kick ass wherever that may be.

What!? Harvard rejected me!? I can't believe it. I thought it was a gimme!

Just got back from vacation to find a big packet from Cardozo.

Another rejection, this time from Cornell. This is becoming an unfortunate albiet somewhat expected trend.

Received letters from Columbia and Georgetown today...the small kind. I was expecting as much, but it is still a blow to the ego.

Email from Baylor and a packet in the mail a week later. It's a start.

Also applied to the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law

Noticed you applied on 10/31 and went complete 11/01. How did you hear? They still haven't requested my report...

we have pretty similar numbers, very similar extracurriculars and are applying to very similar schools. i'd love to apply to u of wash, but i guess they take 70% of their class in state, so i'm not sure if it's worth it.

Good luck

Fellow 165-er. Nice scholarship. Is Baylor the backup? What's your first choice UDub?

get any advise about getting off the waitlist at GW? I have a very strong feeling I'm heading for waitlist town with them too and any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks for the advice!

I already sent them four LORs (I know, I went overboard)...but I'll definitely schedule a visit with the dean and maybe submit an additional, GW-specific essay/PS. Thanks again for the advice and good luck with the rest of the cycle!

No word from UBC yet? I think you are a shoe in with your numbers.

BLS
Thursday, March 09 2006 at 07:00 PM

Well I'm focusing on international law and while both schools had a strong curriculum and journals for that area, BLS has a fellowship program and an international business law center. Plus scholarships did play a role. Good luck with your decision! It is a hard one.

Congrats on the increase in $$. Looks like we are in the same boat as I also had Brooklyn off the table until the scholarship increase. Congrats again!
