Additional info & updates

Waiting has me on pins and needles! lol Like many others, I wish I could have done better on my score however, all I can do is stay optimistic :-)

So far...Florida Coastal has accepted me with a scholarship offer. That's fine...for the moment (although I'm honestly not all that excited), but I'm still waiting. Prayerfully and hopefully some good news will come via email or US postage pretty soon! :-)

So in the midst of this nerve racking process, I'm going to keep smiling because it only takes a smile to make a dark day seem bright! Take care and I wish everyone else blessings in their application processes as well! :-)
*******************************************************************************************
1-15-09

Application received from Howard University.

1-17-09

Scholarship offer from Florida Coastal through snail mail. At first I was excited, then I thought about going to Florida Coastal...and the high started to ware off...oh well. At least I am accepted somewhere! :-)

1-28-09

Application is complete at Loyola. I have some friends who actually go there and from what I hear, it's a pretty good school despite the fact that it is a 3rd tier.

1-31-09

The Dean of Admissions at Florida Coastal asks me to submit my application through LSDAS and I became a bit puzzled. "You gave me a scholarship offer a did not even know that I already applied?" geeessshhhh...this snail mail thing can be a bit annoying lol

I sent him an email back stating that I already sent in my application. He wrote me back stating that I should received my acceptance letter in the mail on Monday....To my dismay, I received a large imformational pamphlet...go figure?

2-6-09

Received email from South Texas College of Law that my application has been submitted to the committee for review.

Received another email from Stetson stating that my application has been submitted to the committee for review.

I have yet to hear anything from FIU so I called their admissions department, and the Dean stated that my application had been complete since 1/20/09. I'm glad to see that they received everything, but a simple email would have be nice too :-)

2-22-09

Receive email from Florida Coastal asking me to attend their Minority Recruitment weekend. If I attend, they'll add an additional $1,000 to my scholarship offer. It sounds tempting...but I think I'll pass for now especially since I live in Maryland. I'd rather save a plane ticket purchase for hopefully another school :-)

2-26-09

IM IN AT LOYOLA!!!! Wheeewww. That $30,000 grant per year isn't a bad offer either. Now, I can safely take Florida Coastal off my list.

3-5-09

Received email from STCL stating that they placed me on the waitlist. I'm not really upset about it at all. Their application deadline was 2/15 and I knew that I applied relatively late in comparison with other schools. In addition, the school's reputation really does not extend beyond the state of Texas. I have always wanted to visit Texas but hey...I was not all that excited to live there for the next 3 years either :-( But thanks anyway for considering me :-)

3-6-09

I'm in at FIU!!! This was really a surprise since I have been in the dark about my status for nearly 2 months now lol The Assistant Director of Admissions called me and told me that I was admitted to their full time program! (YAYYYY!!!) Call me a bit psycho...lol....but I had already looked up Miami area codes lol So when my cell phone rang...I did become a bit "giddy" on the inside lol She stated that she was calling to let me know that their open house is on the 14th and she just wanted to give me the option of coming, although I do live in Maryland. Miami would be a nice get-away but if only I could get away from the office!!! lol I think I'll have to pass for the open house but maybe I'll visit in a couple of weeks...or maybe FIU will have some money for me in the envelope!! (fingers crossed)

P.S. She stated that she loved students from my alma matter...who would've thought ;-)

3-11-09

No money from FIU :-( However, they are inexpensive in comparison to many other law schools...so we'll see.

I am really getting nervous about Stetson though....I apllied to their part-time and full-time programs. Yes,...I know....its a bit much...but I really like this school!

Of course Howard would take forever in giving me any type of notification of my status. A status checker would be nice... (I can speak from experience because my alma matter can have some serious administration issues)

3-17-09

HAPPY ST. PATTY'S DAY!!! lol Uh oh...Stetson's status checker says, "Decision Mailed." My heart sunk when I saw the update.( keeping my fingers crossed)

Loyola has been sending me so much information about their school. This is a great thing. It seems as if their career services department is really on point. I am going to attend their April 17th Open House.

3-19-09

DID I GET IN??? I received 2 identical emails from Stetson asking me to get on their Financial Aid online chat this evening. So maybe I did get accepted and if so, was it to both programs since I received 2 identical emails? Well, if I did...YAYYYYY!!! However, I am not sure if their's any scholarship money with that acceptance offer...I dont know but we'll see :-)

3-23-09

I GOT INTO STETSON!! both programs actually... I went ahead and withdrew my application from FIU and Florida Coastal. Of course Howard is slow...but I really do not want to be close to home.

I AM OPEN TO ADVICE ON SELECTING SCHOOLS...Which school should I choose...Loyola or Stetson?

This cycle has almost ended....whewww.... :-)

3-24-09

I RECEIVED MY ACCEPTANCE LETTER FROM HOWARD!! :-) Yeah...I know...I wasn't all that excited to go there lol I have received so many different views on Howard Law...so if anyone has any opinions feel free to let me know!

3-25-09

MY CYCLE HAS OFFICIALLY ENDED...WHEEWWW....NOW ITS TIME TO MAKE SOME DECISIONS :-)

I suggest you do some research on how well Loyola and Stetson place on their state/city, and what city you would like to live in the most. If possible, you should visit both campuses! Goodluck!

Loyola/Stetson
Friday, January 30 2009 at 07:00 PM

Hello. If you plan on living in FL attend Stetson, it's a pretty great school :). I work at the State Attys and one of my Division Attys went to Loyola. He loved it and had several job offers upon graduation. If it were me, I think FL is great but I would go where they gave me the most money. :) Good luck and CONGRATS

BTW

Do you mind sharing what you've been doing since graduation??

Loyola
Wednesday, January 14 2009 at 07:00 PM

Yup, ill be down there in April, i am very excited too! I applied to Stetson and was rejected! lol But Loyola was the only school that accepted me so the choice was very easy for me! But I would definately go with the money, $30,000 is your tuition!! So you can hopefully live comfortably, me on the other hand, will have to go in debt for my legal education : (

on the acceptances and overall cycle! I also applied to Howard and was wondering how you were informed about your acceptance there, i.e., email first, snail mail, etc.

Saturday, November 29 2008 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for the feedback. Well, the University of Hawaii is my top choice. But, Thomas Jeff is a close second and I just turned in a seat deposit today. What about you?

One more thing
Saturday, November 29 2008 at 07:00 PM

*Forgot to add* Howard emaile me on 3/17 that a decision was made, yet I haven't heard anything yet! Not too sure what to make of this...

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR ACCEPTANCES! That must feel AWESOME! Which school have you selected?

Re:

Loyola is number one for now...I am still waiting to hear from Howard. It would be great to not have to move, but the grant would be very hard to pass up. I am going to attend the open house on the 17th. Email me if you are still attending.

thank you

Thanks for the kind words!! I am so psyched out!!! yes, it is comforting to know FIU has the highest bar passage rate. F the lsat and gpa, the numbers the schools are so OCD on, this percentage number of bar passage should be the number WE look for as students, cuz at the end of the day we are the consumers, it is OUR money, and we should be the driving force of admissions not some enterprise called LSAC!!! Keep in touch and good luck on your decision!!!
