Extra Curricular Information

I'll post more info here eventually to help out applicants from future admissions cycles.

Additional info & updates

2/12/07 - In at Marquette. Small thin envelope, but a larger package with lots of info arrived the next day.

2/14/07 - In at FIU. Small envelope with a letter, seat deposit form, and a post it note from the dean of admissions lol.

2/17/07 - In at Pacific. Large envelope containing a folder with info. Letter also said that I'm a "Legal Scholar," which means my first year books will be paid for, along with a free trip to visit the school in March. Good stuff.

2/22/07 - In at Hofstra. I called in to check on my application status, and found out I was admitted. I'll post the date that I receive the official letter.

2/23/07 - Scholarship at Pacific, renewable $7,500 per year.

2/26/07 - Scholarship at Marquette, renewable $15,000 per year.

2/28/07 - Received admissions package from Hofstra in a large priority mail envelope. I also received an honors scholarship, renewable $30,000 per year as long as I maintain a 3.25 GPA.

3/11/07 - Not a whole lot going on for now. Yesterday I received financial aid info and a viewbook from FIU, along with a letter saying I should apply for admission. Hmm. Seems odd since I applied for financial aid in January and I was accepted almost a month ago.

3/15/07 - Waitlisted at IU Bloomington. I'm pretty surprised about this one (in a good way).

4/5/07 - In at Cardozo. Large thick envelope. I'm pretty happy about this acceptance, but their seat deposit is $1000! wtf?

5/8/07 - Still waiting on a couple of schools, but I won't put those up till later. Got an email from the director of admissions at Florida Coastal (very nice guy) offering me a scholarship of $12,000 per year even though I never applied. Unfortunately, I'm not interested in going there but it was a nice offer nonetheless. I'm just waiting, waiting, waiting..

I plan on calling them next week if I haven't heard anything from FIU by Wednesday or so. Are you planning to attend FIU?

Top choice
Sunday, December 17 2006 at 07:00 PM

I'd say FIU is my first choice at this point, given the cheap tuition.

Congrats on Marquette

Great school, plus no bar exam if you plan on practicing in WI. My top 3 are FIU, UALR and UND, in that order. #2 and #3 have both deferred me, and I withdrew from #3 as they deferred me until July and I simply cannot wait that long to make a decision. I plan on getting a letter of continued interest out to UALR this week. As for FIU, it is my top choice, but FIU rejected me last year. I reapplied this year with a much-improved PS, I'm hoping that will give me a boost. If I don't get in at FIU or UALR I will probably take a serious look at Barry...I'm established in Orlando and they gave me nice scholarship $$$....

Congrats..

on Hofstra. Out of curiousity, did you write a diversity statement because your scholarship is much larger than others with a higher LSAT and GPA.

Hofstra

Hofstra is a tier two according to this year law school rankings. Though I believe the rankings should not be the sole measure of ones decision. I am looking for a quality school and hopefully in the end I will choose one.

FIU

I don't really know anything about FIU. Why do you think I would like it? Any info would be appreciated!!!

FIU

Thanks for leaving a message. If you get into both UM and FIU, where do you think you'd go? Is cost a factor for you? We may end up classmates, and good luck on the remainder of your apps. Keep in touch

Thanks...

Yeah i was at the reception last saturday...the guy with the green tie haha. I was so impressed with FIU i pretty much decided on the spot..eventhough i am not really torn bt any other schools. Are u going there as well?

Waitlist
Thursday, December 14 2006 at 07:00 PM

I was waitlisted at miami last saturday after the reception lol. I wanted to go to UM but a lawyer friend of mine made a good point that UM FSU and UF have sooo many quality students with so much competition that you pretty much have a slim chance of graduating near the top ( which is most impt for job placement) where at a new school like FIU you can be a big fish in a small pond. Plus i dont know if i can just go to a school like 2 weeks after being taken off the waitlist...i need to feel some kind of bond or enthusiasm from the school in which case i am extremely impressed with FIU. They are def going places. Hope to see u there but good luck with miami!

Yeah

Deffered first, the waitlisted. Honeslty, dont know why i applied to UM cause ireally cant afford their tuition especially with no scholarship money. My first choice is FSU but i was deffered there. Im loving FIU though....i just dont want to be in debt after i graduate lol.

Hofstra

Why would you turn down a free ride to Hofstra?

FIU v. Barry
Tuesday, March 13 2007 at 08:00 PM

There really is no comparison between FIU and Barry. FIU is a fast growing, competitive T3 school gunning for T2 status within a few years. Barry is just another private T4 school in Florida with a questionable reputation and so-so faculty.

Congrats!!

Congrats on your acceptance to Hofstra. I have the same LSAT score... what is your gpa?

Hey
Sunday, December 17 2006 at 07:00 PM

Any closer to a decision? I'm down to Barry and FIU. I'm told that FIU will let me know by the end of this month, but I found that a bit dubious considering that their application deadline isn't until 5/1. I figure they will want to have a look at the last minute applicants before rendering a decision on my file (which, I guess, is a de facto "deferred" even though I never got a deferral letter).

Who got off the deferred list? I'd like to talk to that person! I have no idea why they haven't gotten back to me before now. I'm hoping for the best and expecting the worst at this point. Congrats on WVU!

Please ignore that...that was meant for someone else. ;)

Still in the dark here. :(

Meh
Sunday, December 17 2006 at 07:00 PM

I don't know if I'd go so far as to say, "Too bad." If you can't handle a few message-board trolls, how on earth will you handle a law professor grilling you on a particular subject? To each his own, I suppose, but I think that the main thing that one needs for success in law school is a thick skin. Some have it, others don't.

Decision?
Sunday, December 17 2006 at 07:00 PM

Are you any closer to deciding where you will go this fall?
