Thanks for the good vibes.... I'm hoping USC... :) :) Good luck to you too!!!
basically, deferred (which I cant spell) means that you are being held to the end of the admission process to compare your file against every file they ultimately receive. Sometimes, by applying early, you can get in becasue youare not competing agaisnt thousands of applicants, just a few. The comittee is fresh and actually reads your PS and recs. rather than just the numbers -- which is what they do starting about now. So, I see it as a probable rejection. Good job with Cal West. Its a nice school, great city. You can always transfer if you want a degree from a higher tiered school. Good luck
From my board, answer to your quetsion: From what I understand - which is just what I've heard from other internet message boards . A 'deferral' means that they basically deem you to be on the border and want to see what the rest of the applicant pool looks like before deciding. It's to serve the students more than the school, as they are going to let a handful of the deferred students in...how much depends on the rest of the applicant pool. A 'waitlist' means that they are going to wait until everything is totally done and only if there are indeed extra spots left b/c the number of people they originally admitted didn't yield the desired enrollment, they will offer you a spot. This serves the school rather than the students, as this is just so that they can make as much $$$ off of tuitions that they are capable of making. So in conclusion...I guess a deferral means you are still under considertaion, they just can't yet decide. A waitlist means that they will only get back to you if they need you. Best of luck to you in all your apps!!!
