You wouldn't happen to be on the HLS payroll, would you?
...off-the-cuff response, i appreciate the advice, thanks.
hi -- sorry for the lat e response i have been swamped at school -- i felt a little funny about revealing my ridiculous list of schools to any admissions counselor with the sense to look up my stats since i am the only one... so yes, was anonymity. congrats on berkeley and nyu! are you in madison right now?
Did you get a call from Dean Trujillo today? My status changed last nite and was jsut wondering if he made any calls today?? CONGRATS ON BERKELEY AND NYU BTW!!!!! HOW AMAZING!
no, no call, kept an eye out for 434 on caller id, but no luck. The decision was darn fast, so I don't think it was a rejection, but we'll see. good luck to us both.

Good luck with Virginia. I got the status update email yesterday too. Seeing someone with as high of numbers as yours getting an email and not a call gives me some hope.
so where are you leaning?
Money is a huge factor for me. I have no desire to go into corporate law and work 80 hour weeks. So I don't expect 130k starting salary to pay off those loans with. But, at the same time, you only go to law school once, and if there's a school you really like that's a great fit, it might be worth some debt. Many if not most of the top 14 schools have loan repayment programs, where they help pay most of your debt if you go into public interest law. And, I'm not sure that grants/scholarships are as uncommon as people think. Run a search on LSN for scholarships at the schools you're considering and get an idea for what they give scholarships for. But don't foget, LSN probably only represents a fifth of the applicants to a given schoo. Also, MN has reciprocity for WI residents, bringing theirs to 18k. WI is at 12K.
you withdrew from NYU, why?
I'm not really that excited about living in NYC, and even with the scholarship, I would end up taking out 40k in loans a year. And I really liked the atmosphere at some other places (ok, berkeley really). If I decide it's in my interest to go into big debt, I would choose Boalt over those I withdrew from. I know most top schools have loan repayment programs, but I still feel like I would be tied to a job in the interest of paying off that debt for a long time. Really, I like the flexibility of working part time, or starting a private practice.
that should have been my personal statement...
and, the move would be so hard on the houseplants too. Tell me, are you the devil on my shoulder, or the angel?
Nice LSAT, pal. How did you prepare for the exam?
Yeah I had not heard of it until I was invited to apply for it. Seems like many top schools have similar scholarships though. Madison is a good school for public interest work actually, but I am likely going to leave as there are not good job opportunities for my partner here in Madison. Michigan is a great school and there's still a chance that Georgetown or Stanford could work out. But I cannot justify paying for school if I have a free, great option. Madison is out of state for me since I moved here for grad school. Ridiculous I think.
