Additional info & updates

I really want to stay in northern California for law school. And these were the schools that I felt like I had a decent shot of getting into. (I only applied to Loyola because I started getting really freaked out about applying to only 4 schools).

Realistically, I'm thinking that I will end up at Santa Clara. But Hastings is my DREAM school. If I get in there I will seriously be the happiest person on the face of the earth!

October 19, 2007
I just got my LSAT score through e-mail... I scored a 159. I'm not super excited about it, but I'm not completely disappointed either. I was scoring in that range during the last few weeks before the test so its not a surprise to me.

The score should be good enough to get me into USF and Santa Clara, but Hastings is looking more and more like its just gonna stay a dream. But I'm not giving up hope! Maybe I can get in through a waitlist or something?!

November 15, 2007
So... all of my applications have been turned in for awhile now, but only 3 of them (Hastings, Santa Clara, and USF) have gone "complete". I'm starting to wonder why Loyola hasn't even requested my LSDAS report yet... I think I'll be calling them either later today or sometime tomorrow. I'm also wondering why it's taking the Davis application so long to go "complete." I think their entire process is slow for some reason, because it took them forever just to e-mail me that they had recieved my application! I guess each school goes at its own pace.

November 22, 2007
HAPPY THANKSGIVING! I just checked my online banking account and Loyola cashed my check a couple days ago! Atleast now I know that they got my application. Now I just gotta wait for an email or something from them (and also from UC Davis too) saying that I've gone complete.

November 27, 2007
Loyola requested my LSDAS report from LSAC today!

November 28, 2007
Got an email from UC Davis saying that my application is complete.

December 3, 2007
I just got an e-mail from Santa Clara talking about how great they are. Interesting...

December 5, 2007
I really don't like how law schools are sending out e-mails right now talking about how great they are. I'm expecting to get an admissions decision right now, not a brochure! I got so excited today cus I got an e-mail from USF. I was hella nervous seeing it in my inbox cus I thought I was finally gonna find out whether I got in or not. But then when I opened it I was like "wow, this is so disappointing!"

December 10, 2007
Just got a letter in the mail from Loyola giving me my ID number to check my application status online... why didn't they just send an e-mail? Paper wasters!

December 12, 2007
ACCEPTED AT SANTA CLARA!!! big, white, thin envelope... no scholarship money though :(

December 13, 2007
ACCEPTED AT USF with a $25,000/year scholarship!!! holy crap thats a lot of money.

December 14, 2007
Just got an email from Hastings saying that my application was gonna be deferred until march 15... ouch, that hurts :(

December 19, 2007
I just checked the Loyola status checker website and it says that I went complete a few days ago. But now that I've gotten into Santa Clara and USF I don't need Loyola as a backup anymore. I am kinda curious to see if they'd accept me though... so maybe I'll wait awhile before I withdraw my application.

January 25, 2008
Nothing's happened in such a long time. It's driving me crazy!

January 28, 2008
Loyola status checker went to decision... I know I applied there last minute as a super duper back-up, but I've been going back to LA a lot these past few months and I'm hella loving it. It would be kinda nice to be back in LA with my old friends again. And I could have some roommates and save a ton of money on rent. But maybe I'm just being sentimental. We'll see what happens... I'll be checking my mailbox like crazy.

January 30, 2008
In at Loyola! Big packet came in the mail today. Scholarship info comes separately though. And I've decided that I'm gonna put off withdrawing from schools until after I've heard back from Hastings. Which according to them, will be before March 15th.

February 1, 2008
I'm withdrawing from Loyola.

March 22, 2008
In at Davis via status checker! This feels hella good, but it figures that the one school I really wanna go to (Hastings) is gonna be the last school to get back to me! The suspense is killing me!

April 14, 2008
Rejected at Hastings via small white envelope. I'm surprisingly ok with it.

we've applied to the same schools (although I've applied to a few more ;)). what do you think about davis?

boalt
Monday, June 25 2007 at 08:00 PM

would be my #1 DREAM school, though realistically i'd be happy with davis. good reputation, not too pricy, and close enough to SF (where i am from).

Good Luck!

I'm also looking to stay in Norcal if at all possible... Good luck with your applications!

other schools

thanks for the advice :) but I haven't heard very good things about those schools... maybe I'm just too picky. It must be great to have all of your applications in already! good luck :)

So it

looks like we've got similar numbers and school choices. I really want in to a Cali school. It's cold up here in Canada! Anyway, maybe we can keep each other updated as the cycle moves along.

Hastings
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

I want to go there so badly. I applied via LEOP. What do you think our chances are? Seems like we both have some good things going for us...

hastings
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

also, we are at their 25th percentile LSAT and above 50th GPA, so put that with our soft factors and i think we have a good shot. that means one out of four first years (100 total about) had an LSAT lower than ours.

LEOP

you know the medians for LEOP are 3.2-3.5 and 153-156, so we are actually above those if we get in LEOP.

UC Hastings
Tuesday, November 06 2007 at 07:00 PM

I applied ED to Hastings too. I got another "you are complete" email today that's identical to the one I got a month ago. I suppose it means I was deferred. Did the same thing happen to you?

Thanks
Saturday, October 20 2007 at 08:00 PM

Thanks, I didn't do ED for any of those schools. I wish you the best of luck. Where do you want to go? I know someone with similar numbers to yours who got into Hastings last year, so good luck!

Waiting Game
Thursday, October 18 2007 at 08:00 PM

Yeah, I'm going nuts. But I've only checked e-mail once- I just never turned it off... Hopefully we get our ED acceptance before Christmas!

Hi
Saturday, October 20 2007 at 08:00 PM

I refrain from having a first choice at this moment..haha.. I just want to get into a good school somewhere nice and I'll be happy. I'll keep a look out for you, wish you the very best for the cycle.. it seems like SCU is sending out decisions now

Thx...
Sunday, September 30 2007 at 08:00 PM

yes, it is for 3 year...

Thanks brother...I hope you hear from your schools soon, good luck to ya..

congrats to you
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

great job on getting accepted. i really liked SCU law and, if hastings doesnt work out (or maybe even if it does), i would love to go there too!

Congratulations...
Sunday, November 18 2007 at 07:00 PM

on Santa Clara. I think that the scholarship offers that people are receiving with their acceptance letters do not require filling out a FAFSA. They are given out according to what's on the application itself. It really sucks. I would love to go there and study international law, but I don't know if I can deal with the price tag. Good luck on your other applications.

USF
Monday, October 22 2007 at 08:00 PM

Damn, if you're getting 75 G'z for USF then you should do it. How did that work out?

Thanks
Saturday, October 20 2007 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the congrads and i'm definitely pulling to get off that waitlist. Congratulations on your acceptances so far. I'm pulling for you and Hastings, although I've got to wonder, would you pass up the scholarship at USF? (Also, how did they notify you about your scholarship?)

thanks!
Monday, June 25 2007 at 08:00 PM

and congrats on USF! $75K is a ton of $$. i can't believe you've already heard back from hastings...

Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

yeah, you should totally consider USF with that money on the table....no matter how much you like hastings. esp. if you want to be in SF after ls. sorry about the deferral though. they do not accept LEOP patients early though....i read that somewhere, so do not be down on yourself!

and congrats on Santa Clara and USF!

thanks
Sunday, November 25 2007 at 07:00 PM

guy! It does feel good to start the cycle with an acceptance or two ;) But I see congratulations are in order for you, too! Nice cash incentive from USF! Too bad about SCU not doling out for us 159ers though, huh?

Thanks..
Monday, October 22 2007 at 08:00 PM

for your comments! Congrats on Santa Clara and good luck with the rest of your schools. That scholarship money from San Francisco must be nicceee. Happy Holidays!

Thanks...
Sunday, September 30 2007 at 08:00 PM

Hastings notified by mail-- standard envelope. Our numbers are close, so hopefully, you'll hear good news soon as well... but if you got into hastings, would you choose that over usf and what they're offering?

nice work
Monday, October 08 2007 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on acceptances and that impressive scholarship. Looks like you'll be staying in North Cali for school, as you wanted.

Thanks and gluck!
Sunday, December 02 2007 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on Loyola! I'm pulling for you and Hastings, hope you get in soon and the law school turmoil will end!

Hastings/Loyola
Thursday, October 25 2007 at 08:00 PM

Looks like you decided to withdraw from loyola anyways, huh? I think you have a good shot at hastings with your GPA. I think I might be too middle ground for them... Good job on the huge scholarship at USF! I am still anxiously awaiting their decision...

Hang in there at Hastings
Monday, January 28 2008 at 07:00 PM

Would you chose USF over Santa Clara? I'm sorta in the same boat with acceptances from both but not terribly familiar enough with the reputations of Nor Cal schools to make my decision. So I'm really interested to know which you'd prefer and why.

loyola
Monday, June 25 2007 at 08:00 PM

you withdrew so quickly! i would love to hear back from them... loyola is quickly moving up for me. anyway, great job on your cycle so far - and you'll get into hastings, i know it!

McGeorge?
Monday, January 28 2008 at 07:00 PM

That's a fantastic scholarship!!! Yeah, I'd prefer to stay a little closer to home in San Diego, but right now Cal Western is my only option. CW has made tremendous strides in the years since I graduated college in 02, but the non-legal and even the legal community still considers it to be a bad school. I've heard the same thing about McGeorge: that it's a law school on the rise. That means there probably isn't that strong alum base that will be helpful when looking for that first job. Is that partly why you didn't apply to McGeorge?

ugh
Monday, June 25 2007 at 08:00 PM

i'm sad that i have to pick a new first choice :( but i'd really like to hear from davis or loyola. i'd be happy with USF, though, since i've heard great things about the students/profs/etc. maybe i'll see you there!

aahh!
Sunday, November 25 2007 at 07:00 PM

How come you withdrew from Loyola? I'm considering it a lot more seriously (although I haven't heard from them yet) cuz I got my rejection from your alma mater today. =( I guess the money from SFU has gotta be tempting. Here's hoping Hastings starts shoving those acceptances in the mail!

norcal
Thursday, October 25 2007 at 08:00 PM

I do prefer norcal, and would only take those schools over Pepperdine and USD because I eventually want to live in Norcal and all my schools are regional. But if I got the right scholarship, I may not be able to resist either of those schools. I'm holding on to my acceptances until I know for sure!

thanks
Saturday, July 15 2006 at 08:00 PM

thanks for the congrats man, I'm more leaning towards the other schools as of this point, depends on what other schools say too. good luck on your hastings decision.

Davis
Tuesday, September 25 2007 at 08:00 PM

Thanks! I think I'm going to be at Davis actually, no matter what happens with Hastings. I'm still curious to visit both, but I'm pretty sure it is Davis. What is your #1?

i know, huh!
Monday, June 25 2007 at 08:00 PM

i'm beyond ectastic about davis. couldn't be more excited or pleased with the outcome! but i have some ties to LA that make loyola still very appealing, so i'm waiting to see what happens. in any case, gl to you with davis and hastings. if you were to get into both, would you still pick hastings?

Thanks
Saturday, October 20 2007 at 08:00 PM

Thanks, man. Here's pulling for hastings for you. They didn't like me, but hopefully they like you! Good luck! And is it me, or is Davis ridiculously slow?

Davis
Tuesday, January 22 2008 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on Davis! I'm still waiting on a verdict from them, but I wish I could trade you my Hastings for your Davis! Too bad UC schools just don't let you swap with others!

Sunday, November 25 2007 at 07:00 PM

Aww, thanks! I'm sure I'll be seeing you in class there cuz you're gonna get in right... about.. now!

Congratulations
Saturday, October 20 2007 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on Hastings!! You gonna go??

Hey
Saturday, October 20 2007 at 08:00 PM

Sorry, I meant Davis. Davis is a great school! Here's my opinion: I'm from the Bay also, and I can definitely understand why you'd want to go to SCU over Davis, however, there's a HUGE difference in quality from the schools. I would definitely not pay full-price for SCU over in-state at Davis. Davis will have better job prospects, and you'll be able to come back to San Jose upon graduation. Davis may seem boring, but you're going to be studying anyway, so it's a blessing in disguise. Unfortunately, for me, I don't have a viable Bay Area option. My two best bets were Davis and Hastings. I got rejected from both. So i'm considering either SMU or Fordham. Scholarship versus ranking..haha.. Let me know what you decide.
