GOAL: Anything but BigLaw (speaking from loads of work experience.) I've been fitting in well with smaller, established boutique firms in/around San Francisco and I see myself working in one and eventually having my own practice... Lucky to have some clients (attorneys) to offer me advice and really show me the ropes. The Bay Area is an amazing place to do some quality networking.

SCHOOL CRITERIA: I'm looking for a PT program (Would do the full-time thing, but I'm trying to hold down a part-time job in order to pay off medical bills from an accident last year. Ouch.)

Good luck! ... Even though I'm probably in direct competition with you for a seat at these schools :)

=======

1/25/2011: In at Cardozo!!!! Didn't think I had a shot. I owe it to my personal statement. I'm still set on SCU or USF (sorry NYC, I'm a California boy), but this is still exciting news. Good cycle!! All admits - just waiting for Seton.

1/19/2011: In at USF! Admitted to two of my first choice schools.

12/6/2010: In at Rutgers-Newark... in sunny, scenic New Jersey!

12/2/2010: In at Santa Clara via status check! Also got the formal acceptance letter in the mail the same day. Attending the meeting for Early Action admits on 1/26/2011.

11/24/2010: In at McGeorge via snail mail. It's my safety but this is still pretty exciting. The admission note came with a handwritten note from Asst. Dean Barrett inviting me to their school. It may be a good choice since I'm considering a gov't/public service path and the school's right by the State Capitol (which appears to love McG grads).
That decision came quick. And got some pretty generous $$ from the Barrister Award Scholarship, too.

11/26/2010: Online Status Check at Santa Clara reads "In Committee" on the 23rd, and "Decision Letter Sent" on the 24th. That was quick... Not sure if that's a good sign or not. I'm actually pretty nervous about this one. My LSAT is only 1 point above their 25th%ile for PT. Any day now...

11/26/2010: Got a little envelope from Cardozo. I thought it was a rejection letter, but it turned out to be a letter from OutLaws. Whew.

11/29/2010: Online Status Check at SCU says my decision letter was sent on 11/24. Waiting impatiently.

11/30/2010: Took USD off my list. I keep hearing how conservative it is relative to other schools. Plus, their specialty is tax law. Not sexy. Maybe I'll apply to Brigham Young... just to be funny.
J.K. I'm just being a jerk. I'm really not that shallow :)

Cardozo and NW - FEE WAIVERS
Wednesday, November 03 2010 at 08:00 PM

Received fee waivers from some schools today: Northwestern and Cardozo. I'm not taking Northwestern up on their offer. My numbers are far below their medians, and I'm fully aware that top schools send out fee waivers to "unlikelys" in order to boost their selectivity ratings on USNews. Call me jaded, but I'd rather not be a part of that game. Cardozo on the other hand, is a different story. My LSAT is ONE POINT below their 25%ile mark at their PT program. Originally I wasn't even thinking about Cardozo. But what the hell. The app is "free," and it's a good school, although my numbers are in their bottom quartile. I'm applying pretty early to boost my chances, I've prepped an awesome personal statement, and plus... what cute gay boy doesn't wanna live in Greenwich Village?!? (unless you live in the Castro, and I've already done that). ALSO... I'm in a bit of a pickle- I've worked hard on my personal statement and refuse to change it. It focuses on my hard work with EQCA and some of its lawyers working at the State Capitol. My concern is that a number of the schools I'm looking at are church-affiliated: USD, Seton Hall, etc. I'm aware of their anti-discrimination policies, but I'm wondering if this will REALLY play a factor. I stick by my statement, because the content of it is what really motivated me to study law.

You're Awesome

I don't think your personal statement about being involved in some equality things will affect you negatively. On the contrary, I think it will help you out a lot. The schools may be church-affiliated but that doesn't mean the professors or adcomms are. Good luck!

I've applied for their night program, too! Did they update your application status before sending you the admissions packet?

Hello. All of my applications are full time. I actually recieved a letter today from Santa Clara which notified me of a $13,000 per year scholarship which I am pretty happy about. I am just trying to get a lot of options. Good luck with your applications. Feel free to message me.

Thanks

Congrats on the SCU acceptance and money. Is the SCU money per year or for 4. I'm also looking for a PT program. What's your take on the differences between SCU and USF. Feel free to message me if you don't want to broadcast to all of LSN.

Santa Clara is definitely my top choice, so barring no $ from them or a full ride somewhere similar, I'll be there! Just riding out the cycle at this point! YAY!

Cardozo start date...

Did you get any information on the start date for the May program (and/or dates for orientation, etc)? I can't find anything on their website.
