Additional info & updates

Tried to be useful and update my timeline a bit:

10/19/07- email from Duke
11/2/07- Interview call from Harvard. Had a very awkward moment where he asked me about a company I interned for whose CEO had just gotten fired. I had no idea this had happened and looked foolish, so I would definitely not say my interview was flawless.
11/7/07- very nice acceptance letter from Georgetown
11/26/07 - Toby Stock called to say I'm in at Harvard!
12/02/07- Michigan acceptance in the mail with the scholarship promised in previous email
12/11/07- In at NYU via snail mail!
12/20/07 - Called by Craig Janacek...in at Yale! I was very impressed by the fact that he stayed on the phone through my first five minutes of disbelief and incoherent stuttering and stuck through another ten minutes of my thank-yous and stupid questions that I thought I had to come up with on the spot about the school.
1/28/07 - Columbia admissions binder arrives...but no official admissions letter??? I'm thinking they'll give me something better than a photocopied letter addressed to "Dear Admitted Student." Guess I'll have to call them tomorrow...
1/30/07 - Although I still haven't gotten my official Columbia letter (they said it's in the mail), my cycle is essentially over! I'm not sure how I offended Penn. I looked back over my application and it pretty much matched the ones I sent to other schools. I did not write a Why Penn essay, though, so maybe that's the explanation. At this point, I'm just curious as to what they will do with me, so I'm going to leave my application in the pool.
2/2/08 - Columbia acceptance letter finally comes.
2/27/08 - Duke scholarship offer

They called my dad because he went there. They told him they are sending out the letters later, but they wanted him to have the oppurtunity to tell me. So you might be getting an acceptance real soon! :)

Congrats!

on all of your fabulous acceptances so far. Do you have a first choice yet?

I did indeed receive it, so I can confirm its existence. The materials are very nice -- it comes with a DVD and a map of New Haven, among other things. It certainly seems as though we'll be running into each other at a lot of ASWs, at the very least. Have a top choice?

Thanks

no idea yet. I'm trying not to let myself fall in love with a school only to get rejected; so come March or so (hopefully earlier!) I'll start thinking seriously about it. For now, just anxious!

No, i don't have a top choice yet. I am actually waiting on two more applications, and then for the scholarship game to play out. How about you? Congrats on all your acceptances.

Thanks! I'm not sure yet. I still haven't heard back from half my schools, and I plan to attend several admitted student events.

I'm surprised

that you haven't gotten in to Penn yet. I'd expect a phone call any day.

Congrats!

On all these acceptances! I'm still waiting on a few and I was just wondering what factor do you think it was that got you that fantastic yale acceptance so early?

Thanks!
Sunday, November 18 2007 at 07:00 PM

Yes, I think in my case it will probably be a lottery, but having the acceptances I do, I really can't complain ;) I will hopefully see you at an ASW down the road!

Congrats!

On Columbia!

congrats to you too!
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

which harvard ASW are you going to? i think i'm going in march. are you leaning towards any particular school?

Thanks!
Saturday, October 20 2007 at 08:00 PM

Congrats to you, too! It must be nice to have your cycle all wrapped up - do you have a first choice? I am definitely going to try to make it to a handful of ASWs...Yale, Harvard for sure, probably Michigan since they said they'd pay to fly me out there w/ the Darrow, Columbia if they let me in... It's all such a stressful process! Thank goodness for the people like Craig from Yale, who like you said in your note, are happy to deal with the crazed-happily-accepted students when they get the call.

Leaning towards Yale
Monday, October 29 2007 at 08:00 PM

...but I won't be sure until after all the visits. Its nice that now the schools have to try and win us over rather than the other way around!

You're SO right!
Saturday, October 20 2007 at 08:00 PM

It is nice to feel the cycle winding down. I am really looking forward to visting at least a few schools...I wish I could visit every school that accepted me, but I think that would be a bit unrealistic seeing as I have limited vacation time from work...plus there are definitely a few that I will probably cross off the list soon. It will certainly be nice to meet people at the ASD/Ws. I really want to go to school somewhere comfortable with people I can see myself being friends with...and it would be really calming to meet people that fit the bill ahead of time. Maybe I'll see you at a few!
