Additional info & updates

*****don't like the way the 'SENT' date makes my table look. Received=when LSAC sent out my report*****

Over the last 5 semesters my GPA has been ~3.45. I have been taking upper division physics, mathematics, philosophy and law classes and done very well in all. My bad grades were in lower level, general classes 5 years ago. (2002-2003). In other words I have a very good 'grade trend'. Whether that is worth anything is yet to reveal itself. My GPA got a slight boost this fall and I GRADUATED IN DEC. 07 YAY!

*****************I would really like to get in at the Arizona State University Center for Law, Science, and Technology***************

Fall 07 (last) Semester Schedule:
Philosophy of Science
Engineering Statics
Intro to Criminal Law
Senior Project
Physics Colloquium

8/15/07 - recieved a packet from George Mason University

8/22/07 - I reicieved packets and fee waivers from U. of Minnosota and U of Wisconson.....those middle america schools are on it.

8/24/07 - Recieved a letter from Valparaiso University (Val-who University).

8/30/07 - Received fee waiver and packet from St. Louis University.

9/07/07 - Recieved a fee waiver from University of Illinois.

9/18/07 - Recieved a fee waiver from Washington and Lee Law.

9/19/07 - Received a fee waiver from University of St. Thomas Law School. I just don't know. I want one from ASU damn it!

9/21/07 - I emailed every school on my list about application fee waivers. I have gotten a response from all but Notre Dame. It looks like the application process is going to be FREE for me. YAY!

9/24/07 - I recieved a fee waiver from Cardozo. I have been contemplating applying there since they have a relatively high intellectual property law ranking in US news, but I just don't know.

9/25/07 - My LOR from a physics professor not from my school has been submitted. Now waiting on the other slow guys. And I received a packet with scholarship info in it from University of Kentucky.

10/05/07 - Sent out all my applications except Minnesota, they don't accept until Oct. 15th.

10/08/07 - Got a fee waiver from University of Iowa. Some of the schools that I have applied are getting my LSAC Reports.

10/10/07 - Had a job interview with an engineering firm. I figure I work as an engineer after I graduate and I can update any schools that waitlist me. That should help with the decision.

10/16/07 - Finally my other L.O.R. got sent. It should be good.

10/18/07 - Out goes another L.O.R. now the apps are complete. I might get a couple more. We shall see.

10/22/07 - My other 2 L.O.R.s have arrived at LSAC. The apps are really flyin now!

10/26/07 - I am starting to get emails informing me that my applications are 'complete'. Let the games begin!

11/2/07 - I got an email from University of Minnosota that said my app was early enough that I would get an early decision, sometime in December. Thats cool!

11/05/07 - Got a fee waiver to Akron.

11/09/07 - Got a scholarship offer of $10,000-$12,000 from Florida Coastal Addmissions Dean. Weird since I didn't even apply there.

11/15/08 - WAITING PATIENTLY

11/20/07 - I am beginning to think that since I am a splitter I may have to wait till late in the admissions season to get my responses no matter how early I sent in my applications.

11/27/07 - WAITING PATIENTLY

11/29/07 - Just found out I got the engineering job I applied for. Start in January. I will have to send an updated resume to the schools.

11/30/07 - My philosophy of science professor (chair of the department) agreed to write my 4th and final LOR, heres the list:
2 from Physics Professors
1 from a Law Professor
1 from Chair of Philosophy department

12/02/07 - Recieved a letter and fee waiver w/ scholarship info from Valparaiso University.

12/05/07 - What is up with DUKE 's website being hacked? Putting my info in jeopardy. Very dissappointed in the Blue Devils right now. Hopefully their status checker gets back online soon.

12/06/07 - I got an email from Dayton Law school offering a scholarship if I apply there.

12/12/07 - I just sent an email to every school on my list asking if it was proper procedure for me to send an update letter describing my recent actions and plans. Lets see what they say.

12/17/07 - First acceptance. Chicago-Kent by email. Feels pretty damn good!

12/18/07 - Finally Gonzaga has joined the club. Better late than never.

12/21/07 - Got a letter from U of Minn saying my application is on 'hold'. I kinda figured I would get this type of response. I will send out my update letter and hope it puts me over the top at some of my top school choices.

12/24/07 - Got a letter with the scholarship offer from Chicago Kent. It is good to see somebody can appreciate the importance of a science degree despite the low GPA

12/27/07 - FINALLY GRADUATED! I am officially a physicist. Well, chemical engineer by trade. Now I can send out my update letters. And they are good!

01/07/08 - Everything is out. My final updates and transcripts. Now I wait patiently and earn money.

01/11/08 - Got waitlisted at Colorado without them even getting my final transcripts. Oh well.

01/18/08 - My status checker at Michigan said decision without them even getting my final transcripts. Probably rejected.

02/18/08 - I got a call from Southwestern with an offer to go through their acceleration program. Probably going to withdraw my application. Chicago-Kent's offer is looking awfully good right now.

03/11/08 - Got a call from University of Minnesota. Got accepted. I decided to withdraw my app from Michigan State and Santa Clara as a result.

06/03/08 - I have sent emails of deference to ASU and Chicago Kent. Hopefully they accept and I can go to school next year.

do you have extra wor experience?

I've heard schools are willing to forgive a poor performance freshman year as long as it does not reoccur. In such cases, they generally place more emphasis on what you did the latter half of college. My grade trend was 2.01, 3.15, 3.34 and 3.64.

My grade trend

is not that stellar. There is not a stark difference. Though I had one 4.0 semester my senior year. Lots of C's and A's. I never planned on grad school, so was not really at all concerned w/ grades. We'll see how the law schools like that. But I am going to retake the LSAT for a boost.

I had a spectacular first year and a half then a big plunge my second and third year. Ended with an amazing final year that, luckily, brought me up to a 3.0. Needless to say I will be writing a strong addendum.

cheers to being intelligent but much more interested in getting laid and going out than getting good grades ha

Same Schools

Looks like we are applying to the a lot of the same schools. Wish my LSAT was yours, but such is life. Had a rough first year as well. Will definitely check back to see your progress. Good Luck!

Thanks for the feedback. So they have a 'one size fits all' approach, as it were, to the LSAT? I've heard similar re Kaplan & Princeton Review. Good luck & congrats on your graduation this winter!

How much total study time did you devote to the Test?

Lots o Study time
Tuesday, August 14 2007 at 08:00 PM

Couldn't agree more... take the test under simulated conditions, absolutely! (Just bought a stopwatch at Radio Shack, not sure I'll be able to use it though on test day, w/the new rules & all...;-) If you had to prep for the test again (heaven forbid!) would you go through class instruction , or just buy the book? I'm thinking about the various strains on my budget this fall, oy vay!

Fee Waivers?
Tuesday, December 26 2006 at 07:00 PM

Hey sirisaacnewton, What did you say in your email to get fee waivers? I am trying to get the most bang for my buck and would love to see what you wrote in your email to ask for fee waivers. Anyway, good luck to you. I am applying to about 1/2 of the same schools as you. Take care!

You definitely reaped the benefits of the small class size, When (after how many practice tests approx.) did you see the first elevation in your score? Congrats on the fee waivers, as well! How were you able to 'run the table'?

Response
Tuesday, July 17 2007 at 08:00 PM

As for the fee waivers, I am just plain poor so I qualify for the fee waivers. Alot of the schools accept the LSAC fee waiver, which I have. As for the tests, I actually plotted my progress on a nice excell spread sheet. I could email it to you if you'd like. I was all over. It took 4 or 5 for me to get a 167, then a 169, then I was all over.

Yeah, definitely send me your spreadsheet (I'd love to see how you tracked your progress & I knew you meant excel...;-) How did you get the LSAC fee waiver?

Sure sounds like it was worth it--did the LSAC ask for any official docs i.e. 1040s etc (to corroborate your request)?

Has Gonzaga requested your lsac report yet? Do you have any idea how long it will take them to get going?

Friday, May 11 2007 at 08:00 PM

Seems we've both made some progress and have the apps out, it's excruciating isn't it? I swear i look at my email and this website once every 5 minutes hoping something's changed

fellow splitter
Friday, May 11 2007 at 08:00 PM

Fellow splitter, the light at the end of the tunnel is there. I figured the same, not only am I a splitter, but I got an underage drinking ticket when i was a sophomore, so i had to admit that as well, but I heard from a real school this week, so there is hope. You'll be fine

but
Friday, May 11 2007 at 08:00 PM

Ya it feels good, but i'm sure we'll still have to wait longer than normal poeple with our lsat's
