Additional info & updates

2008-2009 Cycle
> $ is over 3 years

Fee Waivers:
> 8/21 - Duke (email) -- Priority Track given 9/18
> 8/29 - U Michigan (snail mail)
> 9/05 - Virginia (email)
> 9/12 - Vanderbilt (email)
> 9/30 - Cornell (snail mail)
> 10/27 - Northwestern (email) -- really really late, but I'll bite...

Updates:

> 10/16/08 - In at Duke =D ... I am so relieved... Can't wait to get my package in the mail

> 10/22/08 - Got my big blue package from Duke and it was great feeling. They sent a Duke lanyard, some reading material, and an application for scholarships. On a side note, I'm getting frustrated with some of the other schools that are taking a long time to get complete. Patience...

> 11/04/08 - Called Cornell and it turns out my application was complete, but they never updated my application status. It was updated a few hours after calling. I also went complete at Michigan today. Only 3 more to go...

> 11/18/08 - Finally complete at NYU and w/ that I am complete everywhere. It's all out of my hands now so all that's left is to wait and wait and wait...

> 11/26/08 - In at Vandy! Status checker changed to decision on the 19th, but got my package today. Came in a big box w/ a TON of reading materials and a sticker =

> 12/01/08 - In at UVa!! Awesome... I got a call from the Dir. of Admissions while I was at work and he was very nice. A wonderful surprise and I can't wait to get my admissions material.

> 12/06/08 - In at Cornell... Received big envelope in mail w/ some letters and a magazine. I also got a small envelope from UVa letting me know that I got in. There was also a small handwritten note on the bottom which is probably on all the letters, but still a nice touch. USC sent me info on a full tuition scholarship. It was in a big package w/ a CD in it so I thought it was an acceptance letter. I was disappointed to find it was not that at all...

> 12/12/08 - Rejection from Columbia (snail mail). Straight up rejected, not even a deferral or anything. Sadness... I was accepted to USC today (Big Envelope), but still the first rejection stings... Oh well... Shake it off...

> 01/16/09 - Accepted to Northwestern (email). Wasn't really expecting that b/c I haven't had too much WE (no full time), but wow I'm psyched... Also got an email from Michigan saying that they will take some more time w/ my App and to send in new info if I have any (I don't)

> 01/17/09 - Came back from the MLK break and found a letter from Stanford... Rejected.... I should be getting my Chicago decision on Tuesday so it's going to be two rejections in a row...

> 01/22/09 - I got a Hold from Chicago (snail mail) a few days ago and a Waitlist (email) from Penn today. I'm anticipating two more rejections (Boalt and NYU) and then I'll have a decision (including holds) from everyone.

> 2/07/09 - $30K a year from USC (snail mail)... Wow... Was not expecting anything even remotely close to that figure... I'm getting pressure from family and friends to go to a higher ranked school, but with that much money i'm not sure anymore...

> 2/13/09 - $20K a year from Duke (snail mail)... I love you Duke... I also decided to withdraw from Vanderbilt so that other people could have the spot.

> 2/19/09 - Rejected at Berkeley from Faculty Review (status checker). This one hurts the most of all. I'm leaving home...

> 2/20/09 - Accepted at Michigan (snail mail)... Still hurting from Berkeley, but the OTHER blue/gold makes me feel a little better. Now just waiting on Chicago and NYU.

> 2/21/09 - $15K a year from Michigan (snail mail)... Nice

> 3/19/09 - $10K a year from Cornell (snail mail)... Not so nice. I don't get how Cornell comes up with its offers. I was hoping for a lot more, but it looks like I'll be withdrawing. =( I really wanted to go there.

> 3/24/09 - $20K a year from Northwestern (email)... I was dreaming about more money... Looking back at all the big money #s from last few years made me inflate my own chances of getting a big offer. I will try to negotiate for more since their COA is so high.

> 3/26/09 - Withdrew from Cornell. Sad to let them go, but financially it doesn't make sense for me...

> 3/26/09 - $25K a year from UVa (mail)... Umm wow... I'm confused... and very blessed to have such awesome choices... I never thought I would ever be in this kind of position...

> 4/22/09 - Withdrew from a bunch of schools and paid my deposit at NU today... Fun, excitement, sadness, fear, anxiety, regret, happiness...

I really hoping that I can muster close to that LSAT score, but otherwise we have similar stats. Southern Cal, Boalt, UCLA are way up on my list as well....anyway, I wish you the best.

Sorry about the Columbia rejection. We have similar numbers and Columbia is my top choice, so this may not bode well for me 8(. On the bright side, you've already gotten into a bunch of great schools and I'm sure you'll do well at any of them.

Sorry about Columbia, I'm bracing myself too. How did you hear?

Sorry about Columbia. I don't think anyone could have seen that one coming. And you weren't ED? Best of luck at NYU and Stanford or whatever your top picks are -- you will have (and already do have) plenty of stellar schools to choose from!

i really don't understand why you were rejected and not deferred. that is pretty ridiculous.
