Additional info & updates

4/16/09 - waitlisted at harvard. now not so sure about deferring for a year. would regret never knowing if i could have gotten off the waitlist or not...

2/23/09 - ~100k scholarship at george washington. was not prepared for how difficult it is going to be to say no to a six-figure sum.

2/22/09 - rejected at yale via letter. if you never try, you never know...

2/20/09 - rejected at berkeley via status checker. first official rejection. stings. that brings my record to 8-1-2 now. feeling good but definitely losing momentum. i'm leaning hard toward NYU. won't know about columbia until after may. the tiny bit of hope i held out for harvard/stanford has basically been squelched by the latest string of wl, wl, ding. maybe money from g'town in a few days will help cheer me up. duke, NYU, and g'town are the strongest contenders left (plan to send out another round of withdraws soon). duke because i'm from north carolina. g'town because i love dc. NYU because it's new york and it's the best school i've gotten into so far. i am, admittedly, a bit prestige-obsessed.

2/1/09 - waitlisted at columbia. sucks because i really want to go there, and at the beginning of my cycle i predicted it would be the best school i'd get into. nostradamus i'm not. will be submitting one of those letters of continued(-ing?) interest and possibly an additional LOR.

1/28/09 - waitlisted at penn. trying to gauge if my disappointment is because i really want to attend, or if i just wanted the validation of admission. i only really applied because they sent me a waiver, so it was free, so why not?

12/30/08 - in at UVA by phone call! he said the whole committee was blown away by my personal statement. awesome awesome feeling right now.

12/28/08 - just got back to brooklyn from spending christmas with the fam and found scholarship offer from fordham. don't think it's enough to keep me from picking NYU, so i'm pretty sure this will be my first withdraw in the next couple of weeks.

12/23/08 - in at chicago via email! 6-0 so far. i feel like my cycle at this point is going so much better than i could have ever predicted. so excited. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

12/21/08 - roommate called and said a big purple packet arrived. IN AT NYU!! too excited for words the rest of the night. what a great christmas present, and very much welcome after the deferred until feb email from berkeley.

11/30/08 - checked admitted students page, IN AT MICHIGAN! very excited. 4 down, 10 to go...

11/28/08 - status checker at umich went decision. let the anxious mail-checking begin...

10/31/08 - in at fordham via email!

10/29/08 - in at georgetown! i was rejected there for undergrad, and i resolved that i would make it there for law school, so this is such a sweet feeling right now.

10/17/08 - accepted at duke by email! priority track is awesome, anxiety cut in half.

10/7/08 - list of above schools is final. all my applications are sent.

consolidating the fee waiver info. fee waivers i'm using: umich, uchicago, nyu, columbia, upenn, duke, georgetown and uva. fee waivers of note that im not using: cornell, texas, notre dame, vanderbilt, ucla, uminnesota.

7/08 - wow, did not expect to do that well on the lsat. let the games begin...

My stuff is pretty much ready to go- my PS and resume are done, and I'm waiting on recommendation letters. I told them Oct. 15, so I'll probably go complete by Nov. 1. I'm starting to wish I gave them an earlier deadline, though, because I'm getting antsy already! How about you?

thanks! i gotta say though, it looks like you're doing fine! congrats on mich and duke. i was duke PT too and they "held" my application :-/ but the dean at virginia told me they had released relatively few RD decisions as they wanted to finish ED first, so don't worry. i think you'll be fine. good luck!

no unfortunately i didn't write the why duke essay. maybe that ended up being the factor that put me in the hold stack. either way, it's ok. like a lot of LSN users, i actually do have a listing of the schools i applied to based on where i'd prefer to go, and virginia is above duke so i'm happy. my top choice (besides harvard which i think i've been passed on) is NYU, where I applied ED. how about you?

dbt
thanks!

Sunday, June 22 2008 at 08:00 PM

You are destroying this cycle... awesome job.

Sunday, June 22 2008 at 08:00 PM

It's pretty sweet... I'm not committing anywhere at this point. Any school could still get me if the right pieces fell into place. Which way are you leaning?
