Emory University School of Law Class of 2009!!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(01)Yale - //REJECTED// (2/6/06) I guess I won't be attending class with Mr. Bloom. Small White Envelope.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(03)Harvard - //REJECTED// (4/3/06) It's about bloody time. Ha! Transfer... ;^)
//REJECTED AGAIN// Don't ask why I appealed... it just seemed appropriate
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(02)Stanford - //REJECTED// (1/31/06) SWE.
//REJECTED AGAIN// Need I say more.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(04)NYU - //REJECTED// (2/6/06) SWE. This is disappointing, but hardly unexpected...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(04)Columbia - //REJECTED// (2/11/06) SWE. Too bad they didn't get the last addendum.
//REJECTED AGAIN// Another WTF are you thinking letter... worth a shot
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(06)U of Chicago - //REJECTED// (2/27/06) SWE. Not a big suprise, but it was worth a try.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(08)Boalt - //REJECTED// (3/10/06) SWE. I really wanted to go there for IP Law... maybe transfer.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(07)U Penn - //REJECTED// (2/2/06) SWE.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(12)Northwestern - //REJECTED// (3/30/06) Internet check. Breaks my heart... I wanted it so bad!
//REJECTED AGAIN// Appeal apparently didn't work.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(14)Georgetown - //REJECTED// (2/3/06)-Small White Envelope.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(08)UVA - //REJECTED// (2/10/06) SWE.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(15)UCLA - //WAITLISTED// (4/21/06) I called to check status on my application. I am waitlisted!!! This is awesome, because it's better than being denied. Wow this makes for a lot of waitlists...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(11)Duke - //REJECTED// (4/30/06) SWE. Took them long enough...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(08)Michigan - //DEFERRED// (2/14/06) Holy Lord! This is the break I am looking for! I was just emailed they reviewed my application and are keeping me in consideration. They are inviting me to add information!!!
//WAITLISTED// (3/3/06) This is good and bad. It's going to be tough to get off the list with the competition I'm up against, but hope is still alive.
//REJECTED// (6/13/06) SWE. I can't put into words how disgusted I am. I would have liked to have rotted on the WL than get kicked in the balls after being led on... kinda reminds me of prom...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(13)Cornell - //REJECTED// (3/3/06) SWE. Crap. At least they suggest transfering next year.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(17)USC - //WAITLISTED// Sounds good. I was expecting this. Unfortunately, I received an email stating they would not consider the list again until July 14th...

(7/18/06) //WITHDRAW// They sent an email stating their class was overbooked and that they did not expect to go to the waitlist until orientation. It's time to cut losses and head for ATL!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(22)Notre Dame - //REJECTED// (3/1/06) SWE. I hate Notre Dame.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(17)Vandy - //WAITLISTED// (3/7/06) SWE. This is awesome. I always liked the representatives I meet from their school.

Visted over Spring Break. Ironically I happen to walk in when their new students day began. The Dean of Admissions didn't seem overly thrilled to be pulled away from the new students. He told me there are roughly 1000 on the waitlist and there is nothing on earth I could provide to improve my chances. Beautiful Campus however.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(19)GW - //WAITLISTED// (2/2/06)-Small White Envelope. Visted there over spring break and talked with the assistant dean of admissions. Nice conversation... hope it helps.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(27)Boston C - //REJECTED// (2/8/06) SWE.
(5/6/06) - //REJECTED AGAIN// SWE. My appeal apparently didn't work.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(22)WL - //WAITLISTED// (4/3/06) SWE.
(7/29/06) //REJECTED// SWE. Apparently no space...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(32)Fordham - //PENDED// (1/30/06)-Online status check... pended... a fancy word for deferred!
(2/28/06) Visted over spring break and talked with the assistant dean of admissions. Nice guy. Maybe this will be positive. I'll know in two weeks...
(3/31/06) I believe I am wait-waitlisted. Yeah...
(7/1/06) I auto requested to be dropped from the list on the first of July 1... doesn't matter because I can't keep a mustang convertible in NYC anyways
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(22)Boston U - //REJECTED// (2/6/06) SWE. William Shatner can keep his city.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(27)U Illi - //HOLD// (1/19/06)-Small letter with the usual you're qualified...but...
//REJECTED// (4/11/06) SWE. I could care less. I would have gone to Emory anyways.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(27)WM - //WAITLISTED// (3/30/06) SWE. I expected this... no problem though. I'll have to plan a visit.
//WITHDRAW// (7/1/06) Time to move on...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(26)Emory - //ACCEPTED// (3/30/06) SWE. In at Emory Baby!!! This is going to require a trip. The best part is they jumped 6 spots in USNews rankings!!!
//ATTENDING// Damn Fine School. I've set up housing and the lot, but I'm still going to wait on my waitlists before I affirmatively move on down.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(43)Hastings - //ACCEPTED// (3/10/06) Online Status Check. No info yet. I have no clue where to rank them.
//WITHDRAW// Emory has precluded my attendance here.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(43)American - //ACCEPTED// (2/11/06)Fedex from the Dean congrating me on being accepted. Thank god something new has come in. No financial info.
//WITHDRAW// (4/3/06)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(53)Cardozo - //WAITLISTED// (2/27/06) Ha! They told me I was waitlisted as I visted the school. Frankly this disgusted me so I cancelled my app. No sleep till Brooklyn baby!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(58)Brooklyn - //ACCEPTED// (2/22/06) Email from the Dean saying the material is in the mail. This is cool. I'll be visiting there next week.
(3/1/06) Visited the campus. Very cool. Right next to all the court buildings and on the water next to Manhatten. Their housing is incredible. Unless something big comes through this is where I will attend.
(3/13/06) Prince Scholarship!!!
(4/24/06) //WITHDRAW// This is a lot of money to be giving up... and I liked their campus... but after visiting Emory I think this is the best choice. I need something more national and less limiting to NYC.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(60)Kent - //ACCEPTED// Email indicating I should be receiving an acceptance letter soon!
(1/26/06)-Letter of acceptance plus $10k grant first year (non-renewable)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(70)Loyola C - //ACCEPTED// Thick business envelope with congrats and details about the honors program and my $11,000 per year merit scholarship
//WITHDRAW// (3/26/06)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brooklyn, Chicago, and Tulane are my safeties... I am going with a buckshot approach of applying to many schools and hoping one or two could hit pay dirt...

I kept bothering a prof who had connections with many political officials. Eventually he gave me a position with Judge William Leo Cahalan of the 3rd Circuit Court in Detroit. It is mostly an educational position. Secondly, 90% of the reason I do BJJ and not any other martial art is because of my leg. As you probably know, BJJ is mostly fought on the ground. While I limp and am not very fast standing, I can take the fight to the ground fast where I have little problem.

I hope you do well this cycle!!

I'm hoping for the best... that LSAT killed me, but hopefully I can rebound.

hi
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

good luck, christopher... although you are crazy applying to 30 schools... most people go into debt going to law school--not applying to law school... but still, best of luck, sir

ok, then explain...
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

you say you have "30 Games to Play"... i didn't actually bother counting, i just assumed you could ;-)

Bastard!
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

Ha... well... Cardozo was about as expected as Van Halen's love child... 31 games it is! I've got bad vibes about this cycle... Why can't somebody high up just accept me quickly and put my mind at ease for the next few months...

I know exactly how you feel.
Friday, September 09 2005 at 08:00 PM

I am totally rooting for you this cycle. I have really similar numbers and you are applying to all of the same schools as I am. SOMEBODY has to look beyond that stupid freaking test. I clerked for a Judge, too. Maybe that counts for something. It shows we are dedicated. Best of luck!

Dig it...
Tuesday, December 13 2005 at 07:00 PM

Sometimes you just have to pull law schools into your guard and triangle-choke them. Good luck, man.

You asked about UVa
Friday, December 02 2005 at 07:00 PM

I'm not international, but the admission officer who called me was from my area. He also had a relative that worked at my summer job. I'm sure you'll hear from them soon. Best of luck!!! By the way, your soft factors are awesome. I also do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Added another, good luck in your quest man. I hate the lsat too, my last practice test I got a 170, then I somehow bombed the reading comp on the real thing, which I normally missed 1-2 on, woulda been a totally different situation had I not choked....

Hey
Monday, September 05 2005 at 08:00 PM

Hey Kaz, yeah California definitely sounds nice right about now. "Woday" got a 161 as well. Best of luck- Jones

The interviewer was very friendly. She asked me a lot of questions. Some of them were very typical interview questions - why law school, what can i add to a school, etc. - 2 of them really caught me by surprise - what is my leadship style and what is a common misconception that people who know me have of me. I hope that helps

congrats!!

Money Money
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

The loyola bit is a grant based on academic standing and is auto renewable as long as I stay above a 3.0 in law school. I'm not worried about that. Hopefully this is all moot and my Yale phone call will come in tomorrow ;^)

Thanks
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

This whole deferred/waitlist deal is driving me insane. I know people with great scores, bad GPAs, and no soft factors getting into awesome schools. Hopefully we both get some unexpected good news.

Georgetown
Friday, September 09 2005 at 08:00 PM

Stupid georgetown. They can't see a good thing coming if it's obscurred by a so-so LSAT score. (My rejection letter is probably in the mail. I'm doing a little pre-rejection commiseration.) I'm sure you'll get into more great schools.

what do you think about the hold?

Response
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

1) I don't know how I got on the GW waitlist... good fortune maybe... I was told by some people that my personal statement was compelling or maybe they took my addendum explaining my LSAT difference and are only considering the 163. God only knows if I'll get accepted off the list. I plan on visiting DC for American and GW over Spring Break. 2) To the positive asshole who last posted. Thanks for the support. Your comment about Prof. K may be true, but is there anyway I can change this now? No. I am confident my other 3 recommendations, most of which went to the schools, are very good. Also, I have done a lot in my fraternities and have learned more then most pseudo-leaders in student government. If law school feels my efforts are a waste of their time... that is too bad. I'm done worrying about this stuff. It's too late to change anything in the applications (obviously). I'm either going to be lucky or have to work hard (something I am used to doing anyways). Good day sir! Love Kaz

Class rank
Friday, September 16 2005 at 08:00 PM

I was just wondering how you came up with your class rank. Thanks and good luck!

rank
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

top 17%, I'd have a much higher GPA if it wasn't for my semester of pledging...

UM
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

you have a real shot at umich... if you have anything substantive to send them to show your interest, do it!... you're gonna get into at least a couple of these waitlist/deferral schools... i just know it!

Damn Straight
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

Joining a frat is the best thing to happen to me in a long time... besides being born.... which is pretty important.... but wouldn't be as important as a Harvard acceptance should galaxies collide and that occur.

Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

Holy shit. This is the first positive comment I've heard you say about law school! Maybe Harvard will come through after all (don't quote me). Thanks for checking this site so often.

Loyola
Thursday, December 22 2005 at 07:00 PM

Loyola is a great school. I think I'll probably be at your archrival OSU next fall. ITB -Big10jd

loyola
Thursday, December 22 2005 at 07:00 PM

Out of all the places you've been accepted so far I would definately attend Loyola. They have new "dorms" going up in the water tower district for law students next year that should be awesome.

So Far...
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

Out of all the places at this point it is looking like Brooklyn.

damn...
Sunday, November 13 2005 at 07:00 PM

You know... based on all your involvements and work experience... I would have expected at least one or two acceptances from your 1/2 group. Good luck. I hope you get some good news from Illinois or Fordham.

WOW
Friday, August 12 2005 at 08:00 PM

Nice job on making the U Mich waitlist! We're all in for a couple of nailbiting months, I think...

East Coast
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

I think they are very close to each other in admissions requirements. Brooklyn is less of a commuter school and has good prospects on the east coast. It will come down to location and scholarship... my mind is not yet made up.

Brook vs. Am
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

I visited both school and was more impressed by Brooklyn. Additionally, I have received the Prince Scholarship from Brooklyn which would total $52k if I keep in the upper 33% (which I'm not worried about).

Hastings vs. American vs. Brooklyn
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

I have been very conflicted on all of these schools. However, I know I like NYC and Brooklyn was very impressive when I visited. Also, their numbers are just as high as American, but below hastings. So with that said... Brooklyn is leading the pack. Hopefully, a waitlist school comes through and makes this all moot.

Kent
Friday, February 03 2006 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on Chicago-Kent. I am very excited about attending and I hope to see you there in the fall.

Thanks
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

This whole selection thing is driving me insane. I'm thinking of going to the admitted students day April 8th at Kent. I've already sent a seat deposit to Brooklyn, but I have two weeks to change my mind and switch to Kent.... Choices Choices Choices. I'm sure Harvard will accept me this week and solve my quandrum ;^)

harvard, huh
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

quandrum is def not a word... i think you're merging quandary and conondrum

Indeed
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

You won the contest... the contest of words... congrats
