but... i tend to always be pessimistic about these things... i'm of the better-safe-than-sorry school... and i'm also very interested in what some of these schools (and they are all really good schools) can offer me in the way of scholarship money... plus, it was really no skin off my back except the $12 report

fee waivers?
Monday, October 31 2005 at 07:00 PM

So, ignorant question, but ... how does one get fee waivers? Do the schools just offer waivers based on information LSAC sends them?

yea
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

for merit-based fee waivers, schools send them out based on info they get from lsac

no...
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

i was pretty confident that i would get into some school that is "better" than some of those "TTTs"... but i'm interested in entertaining scholarship offers...

WE/ECs
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

without going into specifics... i have very minimal work experience... i've participated in a variety of ECs but nothing that i'd imagine to come across as amazing... if you want more specifics, we can talk online or through email (i'm at umich.edu)

lol everyone seems surprised that you received decisions so quickly...4.11 173? shoe in anywhere except the coin toss schools of harvard and yale. congrats buddy! id bet that one of those \\\"TTT\\\" schools offers not only full scholarships, but will put you on salary haha. GL with everything

Hello Jesus of Law School Admissions
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

If Harvard doesn't accept you we'll burn the place to the ground! As for me... just started sending out apps. All 28 should be done by turkey day. I'm jealous of your Georgetown admit... getting in there would be fucking awesome.

lol
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

i've always wanted to be a messiah... also, please don't include me in your plan to burn down H... i love you harvard... muah...... anyway, good luck with apps

Congrats!!!

Congrats on UM

My Board
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

Bloom! Write on my board damnit! Maybe some of your success will rub off. I need all the luck I can get! Oh, and if you had to decide between Harvard and Yale... what would it be?

i'll cross such bridges if i come to them...

re: UVA
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

yes, it did... although i received the call before my status changed, i know others did not and were then accepted... this is the generic message for all those that go to "decision"... it doesn't reflect what the decision is

great stats
Sunday, November 13 2005 at 07:00 PM

great acceptances. congrats.

Chicago Refund
Thursday, December 08 2005 at 07:00 PM

What did you do to get a Chicago refund? I got a fee waiver letter from them a few weeks after I submitted my app, fee and all. I wouldn't mind getting that cash back, but I don't want to bug them and hurt my chances of getting in.

UC Refund
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

Well, I first contacted them to ask if they granted refunds, and they said it's no problem. You just have to mail them a copy of the fee waiver--obviously include name, lsac# cover sheet or something...

Clean sweep
Friday, September 16 2005 at 08:00 PM

I predict a clean sweep for you =).

Congrats
Monday, September 05 2005 at 08:00 PM

Hey Bloom, congrats yourself. Your going to have some very quality schools to choose from. Keep in touch so I can sue you someday. - Jones

YALE!!!
Thursday, September 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

YALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome man!!

you are fake
Monday, December 19 2005 at 07:00 PM

This is obviously a fake account. You are probobly some stupid kid who goes to community college and showed up to the wrong location for your LSAT. Practice saying "do you want fries with that" because I forsee a lot of that in your future.

hmm...
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

lol, well obviously this is a joke... i assure you all, i'm very real... and i don't eat, much less serve, french fries... i stay away from the hydrogenated oils... but which wlw mock trialer could it be... hmm...

hartmann
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

yea, sorry about that...

Congratulations, and two quick questions
Friday, December 31 2004 at 07:00 PM

Hey, congratulations on the acceptance! I have two questions for you though. It would be awesome if you could answer them. I got a W on my transcript (non-punitive, non GPA counting,) Did you have any Ws on your transcript, or do you know anybody that has one or more and will it affect my acceptance into Harvard, Yale, etc? (Considering I get a high GPA and a high LSAT? (E-mail me or leave a message with the answer in my profile) Also, if you dont mind, could you tell me how you prepared for the LSAT?

thx
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

i'll answer here and on your profile... 1> i received 1 W from a cc class i took in high school... it did not affect my lsac gpa... 2> read powerscore bibles (LR & games) cover-to-cover... took 20-25 practice tests... started first couple untimed... timed the rest... tried to create test-like conditions for last 5... make sure to go over all the questions (both those you get right and wrong) and understand why the correct answer is correct... refer back to powerscore books to address any apparent weaknesses

oops

potatoes
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

well, i have been known to eat a yam (and/or sweet potato--are they different, lucky's dad?) or two... even a baked potato now and then can't hurt... it's the hydrogenated oil--not the potato--that i avoid... i hope this doesn't hurt our friendship... i love towels!

congrats
Wednesday, December 07 2005 at 07:00 PM

wow, harvard and yale! congrats us umichers do pretty good for ourselves :)

Forgiven
Thursday, September 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

Well, as long as you aren't totally boycotting the potato industry then all is well. Dude, a FULL ride + stipend to Michigan?! HOLY SHIT!! My jaw dropped when I saw that. CONGRATS!!!!

congrats on the darrow!
Tuesday, September 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

congrats on the darrow!!! keep me posted on your decision!

Congrats on the Darrow!
Thursday, August 25 2005 at 08:00 PM

Any ideas whether you'll take it over your trinity acceptances?

chi-town
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

chicago only offers up to, i think, 45k over 3 yrs... that's not enough to pry me away from H/Y or the Darrow

Chicago
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

congrats! I'm very jealous... going to uc would be ultimate. I'm excited about loyola, but I've got my fingers crossed for a higher end school. I submitted an addendum today with an update about my 3.8 GPA last semester and several other developments. Hopefully, this pushes me over the edge and gets me in somewhere elite. Keep in touch. Good Luck at Yale ;^)

thanks!
Wednesday, December 07 2005 at 07:00 PM

but i didn't get the darrow, or the levy or the yale acceptance. so i think you're still ahead of me :) plus, your hamilton is probably in the mail

congrats!
Tuesday, September 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

bloomich - congrats on your acceptances thus far! I too am betting you get word of a hamilton in the next couple days. And I'll likely be congratulating you on a clean sweep soon too. :-) congrats again!

umm..
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

okay?

Northwestern
Thursday, September 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

What are you gonna do? A Hell of a lot of money, but the waiting would suck! Congrats on the admit, though!

Thanks so much
Saturday, December 10 2005 at 07:00 PM

for the nice note. Congrats on an incredible cycle, your stats are awesome, you deserve it..you've got some tough choices to make, and im sure your hamilton will arrive shortly to stir things up a little bit more ;-)

Man, you keep blowing this process away. If you get it, I think you should seriously consider GULC.. at least go and visit it (I'm not sure, were you at the student's reception last month)? Anyways, its more of a powerhouse than the people on LSD lead on and you will probably get a full-ride to boot. Once again, congrats!

Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

lucky, thx for all the support... i wish you the best

Umich
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

I really appreciate the support. I am definitely pulling out all the stops with them. I'll be filing addenda and additional recommendations this week. I guess the best are always saved for last. This race is going to the wire. The big three I feel I have a shot at are Umich, Northwestern (good interview), and UCLA. Keep checking. It should be exciting.

well...
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

let's not get presumptuous with this sweep talk... i still got a school in cali to hear from... but i appreciate the vote of confidence :) i just booked my flight to harvard's march 11-13 admit weekend, and i plan to visit yale in april

uh, ok
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

so, i was responding to the previous post asking about visiting schools... i'm not forcing you to read my profile, sir/madam

re: NU
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

"2" means I haven't withdrawn yet... it's a lot of money, and if i decide to go the merit scholarship route, it's one of my better options... deferring is not really a big concern for me; i'm only 20.. and getting some work/life exp before ls doesn't sound like the worst idea ever... but H&Y are certainly the front-runners right now...

that's right
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

go pistons!

Good job!
Sunday, March 05 2006 at 07:00 PM

Congratulations on all of the accpetances! Great gpa and AMAZING LSAT! WOw, that's something! Drop by my profile sometime cause I have questions on there that I'm too lazy to type here! Again, congrats.

re: withdrawing
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

while i can appreciate your concern, all my admits are *my* admits... that is to say, i don't think i'm being selfish or *too* selfish in taking my time to deliberate... frankly, it's my prerogative... with that said, i am trying to withdraw as fast as i can completely rule out a school... but i will not withdraw before i reach that point...

Fuck SCHLOMO
Wednesday, February 08 2006 at 07:00 PM

Dude, get a life. EVERY single school bloom has left on his list are amazing insitutions and he'd be dumb to withdraw from there without being 100% sure he wasn't going. AND by the looks of it he IS withdrawing when that happens. On that note, instead of withdrawing from Berkeley can you transfer your admission over to a certain towel? It would be much appreciate! haha

...
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

lucky, i'd love to.. re: stanford, i won't receive any grant money from any of HYS... yale confirmed that in their finaid letter today... so this doesn't set stanford apart for me

umich
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

yea, i'm considering umich now more than ever... i enjoyed their preview weekend and the thought of graduating from a top law school with NO debt gets more and more appealing with every financial aid presentation i attend...

S
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

i almost wish they'd reject me... i'm having enough trouble deciding as it is (nice problem, i know... i'm not complaining at all... certainly an embarassment of riches... so don't bitch at me)... but stanford would be very tempting for me... it has always held a fond place in my heart... as it is, i'm pretty equally torn b/w michigan, harvard, and yale... stanford would only makes things more complicated...

Random question
Thursday, September 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

Hey, I'm just kind of curious.. why did you withdraw from Chicago and not from Virginia, even though Chicago offered you more money? (I know it would still cost more than UVa, even with that extra 4G's, but I'm still kind of curious -- Chicago is an awesome school!). BTW, I recently got into Penn and I think that's where I'm heading. Wahoo!

uva/chi
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

hey lucky, just not interested in u of c, personally... i was curious to see if uva would offer me something comparable to UM's offer... they didn't... i'll probably withdraw soon... thinking about possibly negotiating with them, but we'll see... congrats on penn!!

Friday, September 02 2005 at 08:00 PM

Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

i'm in-state... that's its approximate value for me... i think it actually comes out to 112,500 or something...

Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

It's a 'quandrum' that you are still pending at Stanford! Go Yale!

Similar situation
Monday, August 15 2005 at 08:00 PM

hey bloomich, looks like we are in similar situations - i'm currently agonizing over Mich w/ Darrow v. Yale v. Stanford (no money from Y or S). Despite my constant agonizing, I feel no closer to making a decision. Graduating without debt would be incredible and Michigan's an amazing, happy place... but then again, Yale and Stanford are both hard to turn down for their own reasons. Anyway, I'd love to hear how you end up making this decision since I still have no idea which school to go to.

well
Monday, August 15 2005 at 08:00 PM

it's nice to know that someone else is feeling tortured by this decision! especially because it seems not to elicit much sympathy from others... I ruled out Harvard just because I can't imagine choosing it over Yale or Stanford since the quality of life seems so much higher at those two schools, and I don't like how Harvard is so big. Plus I have a few friends from undergrad who are there and hate it, whereas people I know who go to SLS and YLS seem to be generally positive about those schools. As for Darrow v. YHS... I have to say I'm leaning towards Yale or Stanford right now because even though I like Michigan a lot, I don't want to regret turning down Y or S, or ever feel like I missed out on some career opportunity down the road (I have no idea if that's likely or not, since Michigan is a top school after all...). On the other hand, is it stupid to turn down an outstanding FREE legal education at a top school just because it's not HYS

...
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

i withdraw from a school as soon i completely rule it out... i'm not going to rush into it... once it's gone, it's gone...

darrow
Monday, August 15 2005 at 08:00 PM

hey bloomich, just wondering if you've been discussing the darrow v. yhs dilemma with people from each school, and if so, what they're saying. i've talked to profs from michigan and yale, as well as some former darrow scholars and yale alumni. i can't say it's been all that useful because every time i talk to a yale person i start leaning towards yale, then i talk to a michigan person and start leaning towards michigan, etc. but it is nice to hear about people's experiences, particularly as darrow scholars. almost all of the former darrows i've talked to have clerked and gotten whatever jobs they wanted, and none said they regretted choosing michigan over harvard or yale. the consensus seems to be that if you graduate at the top of the class at michigan, you have the same opportunities as if you graduated in the top half of the class at yale.

berkeley
Friday, October 21 2005 at 08:00 PM

for the love of god don't go to berkeley lol. I have no alterior motives when I say just withdraw already. seriously, going to berkeley would be a huge mistake when you have gotten into any of the other schools you've been admitted to. you'll find yourself competing with graduates from these schools for any job in the bay area. do yourself a favor and just withdraw!

boalt
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

all should be excited to learn i withdrew from boalt today... i did it because i wanted to and not because i was theatened :)... i don't negotiate with terrorists--i don't want to encourage further strong arm tactics...

lol
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

not what i meant at all... over the past few days, i've been getting a bit of online pressure to withdraw from boalt, uva, etc... i received an especially harsh comment that i deleted from my "vistor comments"... i was just saying that i withdrew of my own volition and not because i felt pressure from threatening language... also, i was joking around..

re: yale
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

certainly there are more specific reasons... but more than anything, after visiting, it seemed like the best fit

stanford
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

i want an answer from stanford... if i got accepted early enough, especially, i honestly would consider it... i think stanford might be the best overall fit for me... but we'll see what happens... i'm proceeding with yale as if that's where i'm definitely going... but im not withdrawing

uh huh
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

whose time did i waste? knowing what i know now, i'd probably have only applied to one school... but i didn't know what would happen... some were very much safety schools sure... but if they didn't want me to apply, then they shouldn't have sent me fee waivers begging me to... i withdrew from schools as soon as i knew i wouldn't be attending... i don't see how i wasted anyone's time... and i don't see this as anyway being selfish (at least unjustifiably so)... so, deal with it

kudos
Friday, September 16 2005 at 08:00 PM

on a successful...well, everything! except i really can't believe stanford waitlisted you.

Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

have to let her know by thursday... barring a sudden, dramatic change of heart, i'm going to yale...

re: stanford
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

i did... i was unsure at the time... stanford has sort of always been my dream ever since hs... so it was a tough one to turn down...
