Extra Curricular Information

several internships during undergrad; dean's list; lots of soft factors; my mother is ill and I'm just trying to make it. God has gotten me this far and I know he has plans for me.

Personal Statement is about growing up poor.

Very strong recs from professors and employers.

ADDITIONAL INFO & UPDATES

I am applying to primarily New York Schools but will include more as I get my applications together. My top choices are Fordham or Cardozo even though I know it is a reach.

Any thoughts about my chances would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and good luck to everyone.

12/21/07 - I got accepted to Cardozo's May program. I almost passed out and asked my mom to call to verify. Wohoo!

Rant of the day 12/30: So I have blocked out some of my information out of paranoia. Apparently, admission offices read these forums and can automatically tell who the applicants are (especially the black ones). I doubt that people post anything that would hurt their chances but I do not think that this is a good practice on the part of law schools. I personally joined this forum and posted my information to not only get feedback but to help other minorities who are thinking about applying to law schools with similar numbers and not for admission officers to spy on me.

1/14/08 - OMG I got into American! Apparently several weeks ago. Post man delivered my packet to my neighbors who have been in Italy for a month and they just brought it by. Completely unacceptable Mr. Postman.

2/22/08 - Well I'm not going to complain but I am a bit disappointed that I am waitlisted at my top choice. :( The waiting game begins...

02/28/08- OMG this is the year of HOPE. Waitlisted at Columbia. If it wasn't for the folks on lsn I wouldn't have even applied to Columbia! Excuse me while I go and faint.

Good luck with your apps. Fordham and Cardozo are really not reaches for you. I think that you can get into both.

I agree with angeltwin. Fordham and Cardozo are not reaches for you. You should get into both. If you are not tied down to NYC, please consider applying to more realistic reaches such as Columbia, NYU, Chicago, UPenn, UVa, Duke, Northwestern, GULC, Cornell, and any of the top 25 that you would like to attend. You could easily get into a top 25 WITH MONEY. Please do not sell yourself short. If money is a problem, apply for a LSAC fee waiver and/or request fee waivers from the schools. Good luck.

Thanks for the condolences. I think they weigh LSAT more than GPA. Plus, being black is more of a boost than being hispanic. I think you have a very good shot. Don't give up hope! Good luck. I hope to see "Accepted" next to every one of your schools.

Hey! Ok so the interview is today at 4 (yikes) . My boyfriend is an assistant dean of admissions at a med school, he said that the app process is similar and if they take a long time to get back to you, it's a good thing. I am alarmed at how late they are...but better a slow yes than a fast no. You have a good chance, better than me, so call and ask about your app status, I called once a week. Good Luck!

The interview was great although agonizing as well. They are basically all out of room for the January program. She told me they would consider me for May if they can't fit me in here, which, like you said, is sweet. Let's see. I haven't heard anything from Fordham either, fingers crossed.

Feels great doesn't it? Yeah, don't know why Fordham isn't giving me any love. "2nd Evaluation" is the same as a deferral. They'll send you a letter soon.

Thanks so much! And congrats on Cardozo! LOL @ the passing out part. I know what you mean. When I was holding the Mich envelope in my hand, I couldn't stop shakin'. The moment was too surreal.
