Extra Curricular Information

-Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force (includes deployments and many additional tasks)
-Received a Departmental Scholarship based on merit
-volunteer at a local non-profit
-competitive athlete
-active member of school's pre-law society
-Wrote for a school magazine
-Interned at a local magazine
-I have an addendum for my lower grades so that might affect how they are looked at.

-12/01-Still waiting, not surprised though with my icky LSAT.

-12/07- I noticed an incomplete today from Whittier and had to send an additional addendum. I'll bug them next week to make sure I'm ok. They said it will delay my decision though. Poop.

-12/8- Whittier updated me today and moved my file to under review. Cool.

-12i/31- Still no word, which makes me very nervous. Statistically speaking, I guess I consider Whittier and Willamette as safeties. I would be ecstatic to go to anywhere I have applied to, but see the rest of the schools as low possibility (with Stanford and U Wash as no possibility). It will be interesting to see how much my icky LSAT really affects me. I think I would have rather gone through basic training again than play this waiting game. (I only post this info because others ask and it will be interesting to reflect on later.)

-1/07- rejected via status checker Seattle. : ( Everyone was right. It does sting.

-1/10- Went in review today at U of Utah.
Also "in committee" at Santa Clara since 11/10,
complete at U of Pacific since 11/4,
in review at U Wash since 12/1,
complete date recently updated for second time at Lewis and Clark and for the first time at U San Fran.

-1/14- My first acceptance!!!!!! Whittier by status checker!! I am ecstatic! I am going to law school. : )

-1/15- In review at Gonzaga (crossing my fingers).

-1/17- Got my scholly info from Whittier. $8000 for the first year and the second year depends on my performance (top 5% gets full, top 10% gets half, yadda yadda). I am naturally a competitive person and the scholly requirements don't really phase me, and for my icky LSAT it seems like a good offer.

-1/27- Rejection email from Lewis and Clark. Bummer.
Also, Utah review date updated today.

-1/30- Checked my Loyola status today and it said they made a decision on the 28th and mailed it out. I suspect it is part of their first group of rejections.

-1/31- Rejected by Loyola via mail.

-2/4- In committee date updated today on Santa Clara status checker. "Decision Made" on Gonzaga status checker. AAHHH! Hoping for good news!!

-2/5- Rejected Willamette via snail mail. Poop.

-2/8- Rejected Denver via email. Yep.

-2/10- Got the BIG Envelope today from Gonzaga. Woohoo!!! I think this is where I want to go. Didn't see scholly info, but I'll call them as soon as I calm down. : ) Called. No scholly offer. That's ok. Still excited.

-2/11- "Decision rendered" on U. of the Pacific status checker. I admit I gasped/was startled when I saw this because I have had no movement since "complete" on 11/3. I guess the letter is in the mail.
-"Decision rendered" on U San Fran status checker also today. I think this is going to be a double ding.

-2/14- Rejected Pacific via mail. I didn't want to go there anyway because I would prefer a different experience than my undergrad education and the rep at a law fair said, "You'll be right at home at Pacific because more than 20% of our student body is from Utah." The opposite of what I would want to hear.

-2/16- "Decision mailed" on Santa Clara status checker.

-2/17- Rejected San Fran via mail.

-2/19- Rejected Santa Clara via mail.

-2/27- Rejected Stanford via mail.

-3/3- I have decided to attend Gonzaga. I will visit the school during my spring break and again on April 2 (admitted students day). I am really excited and relieved to be finished with this process.

-3/4- Rejected Utah via mail.

-3/18- Rejected U Wash via mail.

did Gonzaga really send you confirmation that you went 'complete'? I've been waiting to hear from that school for a looong time now.

I just logged in at the status checker link; it had changed to accepted. It feels good to be 2 for 2 on my apps.

You have a good shot at your schools so I wouldn't worry. Unfortunately if you don't hear back from them before they go on Xmas break then your wait will be even longer, painful, I know.

Thanks!I'm sure you'll do fine in your cycle with your background! Def not your typical applicant which will probably give you a boost :) I'm just trying not to think about hearing from any schools yet so I don't panic!! Best of luck my friend!

  • Where do you want to go?

What's you're top pick school, and where do you realistically see yourself? I ask b/c we are applying to many of the same schools...

It's like they say in basic: Suck it up and drive on! (Sand Hill, Ft. Benning, Class of 99) I think it's all about how early you apply. Last year I applied to Willamette and thought it was my safety....they waitlisted me (eceryone else rejected me). I applied in late January and I think that was the reason (hopefully?). With your early apps, I think you have a good shot at many of these schools. For me, I'd be really happy at Utah, maybe Colorado or Oregon, definitely Gonzaga or L&C, or if I had to stay in VA, W&L. Cross your fingers!

That sucks about Seattle. No worries, they are a really expensive school (and I think Gonzaga is a better value between the two). I have a feeling we'll be hearing from L&C soon. I got denied by them last year, so let's hope for a better result.

  • L&C
  • Thursday, January 27 2011 at 05:14 PM

Don't worry about L&C. From what I've heard about the school, they all have their noses in the air and belong to the liberal elite. No thanks. I know you'll do well with Gonzaga (among others!).

Congrats on the acceptance! Are you thinking about the summer program? I called Susan Lee to ask for contact info from recent grads so I can question them about the school...job prospects, etc. She said she'd set it up. Congrats again!

That's great! except in the unusual circumstance that I get into Utah, I'll see you in August! Check out the housing for me. C-list doesn't paint a very good picture.
