Additional info & updates

Fee waivers noted in line with each school.

Notre Dame does not send out complete notices. I called for my status so I do not have an accurate date on which my file became complete. Ditto for Florida and WUSTL.

I called IU as well. They mentioned that I was complete on 11/9. So that date is accurate.

12/05/05 - Since I never received a complete notice from Michigan, I called the Admissions Office today. I was told that I was complete as of 11/01/05 and that a confirmation mail had been sent. I suppose the USPS mus have lost it. I hope they are more careful with Acceptance Letters :o)

Received Dean's Scholarship with Baylor acceptance through email.

UF Acceptance arrived in a large white envelope. Letter was dated 11/30/05.

12/12/05 In at Duke!!! Large envelope. Letter dated 12/8/05. Accompanied by a Duke Law magazine.

12/15/05 WUSTL email saying my acceptance letter is on the way. Woohoo!

12/19/05 Acceptance letter from Cincinnati. I am a huge fan of the Queen City. I will update with date on the letter when I get home.

12/21/05 Northwestern!! through email/status checker.

12/22/05 Notre Dame email saying acceptance letter is on the way. :o)

1/6/06 Returned home from India to find the following in my mailbox:
- Vanderbilt Acceptance letter dated 12/21/05
- Letter from Cincinnati indicating my selection for one of their specific scholarships for those interested in IP.
- Acceptance and partial scholarship offer from Indiana dated 12/23/05
-Acceptance letter from UNC dated 12/19/05
- Notre Dame Package with nice scholarship offer.

1/7/06 Finally received my Michigan complete notice. Letter was dated 11/22/05, but the postmark on the envelope was 1/5/06. Hmmm...

1/11/06 Received email from Northwestern containing a substantial scholarship offer. I never expected something like this. I am blown away. :o)

1/23/06 Received waitlist email from Penn.

1/26/06 Based on recent events and opportunities, I have started to narrow my list. Withdrew from Baylor and Indiana.

1/27/06 Received WUSTL Binder today as well as a very nice scholarship offer :o)

1/29/06 Replied to Penn's waitlist email and declined their offer. I cannot see a scenario in which I would give up the scholarship offer from Northwestern to attend Penn and rack up the debt. Hopefully someone else on Penn's waitlist will get in that much sooner.

2/07/06 Case through email saying official letter is on the way.

2/13/06 Duke Scholarship Letter

2/16/06 Waitlist email from Virginia. I am on the priority out of state list. Not quite sure what that means.

2/21/06 In at Michigan! Wow that took a while :o)

2/22/06 Withdrew from Florida, Emory, Cincinnati, and Case Western.

2/27/06 Acceptance letter from Texas. That marks the end of my cycle. I have heard from everyone. Having refused Penn's waitlist offer, only the UVA waitlist remains as a possible avenue for an additional acceptance.

3/3/06 Scholarship letter from UT. In state tuition (would save me $13K/yr) plus $5K per year. Grand total of $54K of savings over 3 years

3/6/06 Scholarship letter from Vandy

3/14/06 Email from Duke increasing my scholarship to $42K as a result of negotiation.

3/17/06 Letter from Texas with an additional scholarship offer. My decision is going to be quite difficult.

Thanks for your comment on LSD. GL, we have very similar numbers!

Wow I should really read my post before hitting submit: To me, it doesn't make sense to mark it as deferred, since I am now in the regular pool along with all of the none EA applicants. I am now pending just like them. I will remove the EA from the Texas line.

Northwestern Complete
Friday, September 16 2005 at 08:00 PM

Hi I was wondering how you found out you were complete at Northwestern.

Best Wishes

Anyone exhibiting that kind of parental love deserves the best. Good luck.

Baylor
Saturday, November 19 2005 at 07:00 PM

Hey, Do you know how long after Baylor made their decision you got your letter? Online it says they sent out a decision to me on the 21st, but I still have nothing. They didn't email me either.

Thanks for the comment. I'm sure your letter to UF is on it's way. Your numbers more than fit what they want plus you've got a CE major - quite rare for law.

Michigan

Don't worry about UM. It's still way too early. I went complete a month before you did. Good luck!

CompE

Ha, didn't notice you were a fellow CompE before! We gotta stick together! Good luck with the rest of your apps :)

I saw your post on LSD and I am also hoping to hear from MICH before the year is thru. I went complete the same time as you so maybe we will get *acceptances* at the same time. I am crossing my fingures for both of us.

I also say a big congrats to you on all your acceptances so far! Good Luck with the upcoming decisions!

Northwestern

Congrats! If you go there the weather may *shock* you coming from Miami, but what a great school!

Re: broadwaybridge

I have started to try to rank some ahead of others. However due to my age and having a family I am still heavily pondering the prestige vs. cost issue. As I have a chance to visit some of the schools, and find out about the remaining scholarship possibilities, I will then start to withdraw from the schools in which I am no longer interested.

Looks like UMICH is really having us wait it out this cycle. ARGH!

Penn and Vandy
Wednesday, August 31 2005 at 08:00 PM

I don't think I was EA at Penn. I never received any sort of deferment. The first I heard after going complete was the Waitlist email. I have not yet heard from Vandy about money...

The wait...
Wednesday, May 25 2005 at 08:00 PM

for UMich is over for you! It just must have made your acceptances that much sweeter ; ) . Congrats! You certainly deserve it and I am so happy for you. I know you really wanted this. Are you still leaning towards Umich or is $$ from other schools swaying you?

Michigan vs NU vs Duke
Wednesday, August 31 2005 at 08:00 PM

Thanks ShellBell! While Michigan has been the ultimate goal from the beginning of the application process, I don't see how I can pass up Northwestern's offer if I get no money from Michigan. Duke is definitely still on my radar as well. Hopefully things will shake out in the next few weeks.

UT
Monday, October 24 2005 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on UT! Good to see some of the deferreds are starting to see letters!

UT - about time!
Sunday, October 16 2005 at 08:00 PM

Ok, seriously no surprise there, and my prediction came true :) Congrats, hope you get a fat scholarship next week!

Deferred
Wednesday, February 22 2006 at 07:00 PM

I am also deferred at UT and since you have now been accepted, I wondered if you could tell me ... did they update the status of your online EID or did you get the letter without your online status showing as changed?

UT Online Status
Wednesday, August 31 2005 at 08:00 PM

My status had not been updated the day I received the acceptance letter. I received it 3 dyas after they mailed it.

Texas
Thursday, September 08 2005 at 08:00 PM

Don't forget, Texas has a money matching program with the T14, so it will cost as much or LESS than Northwestern.

nice job on the negotiation. I'm trying to do the same... about how much time passed between your request and their reply?

wigmore
Sunday, December 04 2005 at 07:00 PM

hey, looks like you got the wigmore at NW. just wondering if you had to submit your FAFSA et al in order to accept the offer. seems to me it's a merit-based award, so i'm wondering if i can get away with not submitting my FAFSA and still geting the $$. by the bye, congrats, looks like you did great on your apps!

Duke Negotiation
Wednesday, August 31 2005 at 08:00 PM

rcr2135, It took about a month after I talked to Dean Hoye, before I heard back.

re: wigmore
Wednesday, August 31 2005 at 08:00 PM

I don't think you need to submit a FAFSA to accept it, but I would call the financial aid office just to be sure. They have been very helpful to me.

Duke
Friday, December 16 2005 at 07:00 PM

I saw on LSD that you're heading towards Duke. Congrats. Looks like we have somewhat similar situations (W.E., married w/ younger child). Look forward to meeting you in Durham in August.

It's nice to know at least one person will be in a similar situation. My son is 2 y.o. I met some current students who are parents at the Open House. Not many of us but a few.

duke?!

Duke over Northwestern with 2x $$$?!?

Duke v. NU...
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

makes sense to me (but, then again, I did the same thign). No sense having a 2 year old in Chicago! Looks like there will be quite a few of us parental types in the 1L class this fall. Feel free to email me if you want to ponder/worry/complain/brag about life with a toddler.
