So I don't out myself completely, I'm just going to say I worked at a very, very large technology company (hint: Big Blue). Good luck!

Re: uva
Thursday, October 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

From my status check: "Early notification applicants whose files were completed by November 15 can expect a decision mailed by December 17." Maybe it was 10/15 last year?

NYU
Friday, September 16 2005 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on NYU and Michigan! I hope I hear from NYU soon. I think the reason I got deferred at Penn was because I didn\\\'t write the Why Penn? essay =). Good luck on the rest of the schools, you look like you\\\'re in good shape.

I just read your message about CE's sticking toghether. Congratulations on your UMich/NYU acceptances all in one day. That is a nice haul for a day's work. Good Luck with the rest of your apps.

Penn? What a joke
Friday, October 07 2005 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on everything so far, and best of luck in the future! The Penn deferral is a total joke... I'm sure you'll get into at least one of HYS

thanks :)
Monday, November 28 2005 at 07:00 PM

for the note... the letter basically said that my file will be held until the applicant pool is complete - and then evaluated from there. I guess that means sometime after feb 1?

Harvard Deferals Unite!
Friday, December 09 2005 at 07:00 PM

How are you feeling about this? Truly, Im not too worried, our numbers (yours are even better) are higher than most pending apps on here and if you go to last year we received hold letters over a month sooner and have better numbers than last years holds. Congrats on the acceptances so far, i'll be checking you since we are so similar.

Sunday, December 04 2005 at 07:00 PM

We're waiting to hear from all of the same places! I will cross my fingers that we both hear only good news!

LSN Users
Friday, December 09 2005 at 07:00 PM

True that many may not be on it... but I have thought about it and think it might actually skew upwards. People with moderate numbers applying to local or regional schools probably are less likely to bother with LSN than those applying to the top national schools. At least, this is the case with most of my friends currently applying to schools. It also tends to skew towards those coming directly from undergrad it seems.

Good luck to a fellow engineering major, Harvard better let you in!

Re: Surprised
Thursday, October 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

Yeah I am surprised by the way my cycle is turning out...but on the plus side the only rejection is Yale, and I didn't want to go there anyway...where is New Haven?! ;) I hope H changes their mind :) What kind of numbers do you have?

Re: You
Thursday, October 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

I suppose it must suck. Oh well Chicago I think I could have gotten into if I applied early, Penn I think is YP, and the other results really arn't that out of place. Oh well, I'll have to settle for the fourth best school in the country, guess I'll cry myself to sleep tonight ;)

Re: yield protection
Thursday, October 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

Uhh, I didn't mean the rejection was YP, I think the initial deferral however was. I said I *expected* the rejection, because while others sent out letters of interest, and new recommendations, I just kind of ignored them. Also, I am not bitter whatsoever, nor am I arrogant, if I came across that way I assure you, it was not meant to be so

Re; YP
Thursday, October 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

Honestly, I don't know why they did that. Maybe my essays did suck...IDK and neither does anyone else who isn't on the admissions committee. Considering though that my numbers were well above the 75% for GPA and LSAT I'm gonna see it as YP, if you disagree thats fine. Also, I used more or less the same PS for every school, so explain how I got into comparable schools with $, and better schools...?

Wow I can't believe I haven't left a m
Saturday, March 25 2006 at 07:00 PM

Wow. People can be rude to you! This makes me sad. Have you decided on a school yet? Oh and how did a WL save your life? This is a story I want to hear! See ya around! -Britt

Re: YP
Thursday, October 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

YP is used by *most* people to describe a situation where an individual with high numbers for that school is rejected/waitlisted. Also, fine I'm not argue whether or not NYU takes everyone with my numbers, or more importantly whether or not thats a good or bad thing (hey seems to be working ;)) However, explain how I got into UMich, a school that definitely rejects people with high numbers, and is considered the most "soft factor centered" of the T10, and got a scholarship to boot?

Withdrawing...
Friday, September 16 2005 at 08:00 PM

I ended up realizing that law school wasn't for me - I had some good options, but I ended up getting a great engineering job with low hours and top benefits, and after making the decision I couldn't be happier. I was mainly looking to law school for the extra money, and I realized that as the motivation would've made me miserable. I might reconsider in a couple years, but it's just not the right timing. Good luck on Harvard!!

Why are you so nice...
Saturday, March 25 2006 at 07:00 PM

And smart? Not fair. Not fair at all. *e-hug* -Britt

Re: ?
Thursday, October 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

There was definitely nothing controversial. Could there have been a typo? Sure, but I doubt that would have much effect. Penn: I maintain it was YP, whether thats right or wrong, its my story and I'm sticking to it! :) Chicago: I applied there only after I got a fee waiver. After I applied I became more interested in the school, but I figured the late application date would hurt me. Looking at LSN I see people WL'ed at Chicago with numbers higher than mine. I think their class was/is basically full when they WL'ed me. The WL had an option to apply for the class of 2010 and get a decision by April, which I think adds evidence to my theory of the class being full.

Hey J, Havn't seen you in awhile.... Anyway yeah I agree, but its 4th ranked now ;)

Re: US News

I'd happy to debate the issue with you if you post under a real name - I won't waste my time with cowards. Also, I don't feel the need to defend my intellect to anyone, yourself included.

Re: NYU
Friday, September 16 2005 at 08:00 PM

While the thought of NY is great, I can't possibly afford it. Working has really taught me how hard it is to make money. Unless something drastically changes, I'll be at Boalt next year. Good luck at NYU (unless Harvard pulls through).

Congratulations
Friday, October 21 2005 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on your acceptances! It's just too bad so many people had to try to belittle your accomplishments. Maybe I'll see you at NYU next fall.

Re: University
Thursday, October 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

Nope not Berkeley :)

thanks
Saturday, December 10 2005 at 07:00 PM

i appreciate the pulling. i was pulling for me too. lots of the higher ups at NYU were pulling for me too. but alas. its a GREAT school and youre gon love it... right now its either cornell or the full ride at Cardozo for me, pending no miracles from penn or columbia. (or dare i say, H...) well see. best of luck

Re: Harvard
Thursday, October 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

Alison, I think a few more of the deferred folk will get in sometime in May, I think a few more will get waitlisted, and the vast majority will get rejected. Personally, I'm not holding my breath - I think the odds are slim at this point :(

Re: HLS
Thursday, October 20 2005 at 08:00 PM

I made it painfully clear that I would attend HLS in the supplemental I sent before. I think my chances at HLS are slim to none, and therefore am working under the assumption that it won't happen. I hope it will happen, but I like to have a sense of confidence and predictability in what happens next. Thank you for the warning though :)
