you could definitely get in to T20 schools with your stats. Good luck!

thanks for the comment. i agree with sarahbell though. you could get into top 20 schools with your stats and soft factors! you should think about applying to more schools! :)

They haven't sent me anything yet. From what I've gathered, they seem to be sending the scholarship information in a different letter. Your numbers are much better than mine, did you think about applying to Virginia?

Do you want to stay away from Philadelphia? You would be extremely competitive at Penn and guaranteed to get a scholarship from Temple. If not, I'm sure you'll get money from Penn State.

i think you would be competitive at upenn, but if you're looking for less conceptual and more practice law, penn state is a better fit. and i don't think your major would be as big of a factor on your penn state application as it would on a upenn app. that's just my 2 cents. :) temple is a great school but also private so higher tuition. and, i can confirm, my penn state acceptance and scholarship came in separate small, white envelopes but arrived on the same day. good luck, but i don't think you're going to need it. ;)

They're going through a $100 million renovation at PSU which will make their ranking rise in the future. What area of PA are you from? I lived in Lancaster until I turned 18.

It sounds like PSU is going to fit you perfectly. I'm guessing that you had a chance to visit...have they started to renovate? I've lived in the midwest and south since I graduated from high school. We'll see if I end up back in the state (Penn has a lot to do with this decision).

Thanks for the feedback. I am in a somewhat unusual situation. I am married, and I live within commuting distance from Penn State - Carlisle and Widener. That is my biggest reason for looking at those schools. My husband is not really open to moving right now (and it wouldn't be the best financial option). Debt is also a factor, and I am fairly certain I will get a decent scholarship offer from PSU (although I realize that's not always the best way to decide where to go). While I respect your opinion, I was actually quite impressed with the calibur of professors and with the new profs they are hiring at Penn State. While I'm not 100% sure what I want to do after LS, I'm looking at family law or state government work. It seems like I would have no problem finding jobs in those areas in south-central PA with a degree from PSU. Do you disagree?

Congrats!!!

Congrats on both schools! Crossing my fingers on a BIG scholarship for you from Penn State. :D

on PSU. you should get a great scholarship from them. and by the way temple is a public school. PSU will be a great school if your looking to stay in PA. I'm looking to practice outside of PA so its not my top choice. Good luck

PSU $$?

I had planned on getting ahold of you through LSD concerning PSU. I've been a little confused by Dickenson. I received my aceptance on 1/24. They had been sending out scholarship info within a week, but it's been over two now and...nothing. This upsets me a little because even though my numbers are a high for them (LSAT was actually 159, 172, 167), I am VERY much considering PSU if they come through with money. I'm sold on their extraordinary faculty and decent job prospects in Harrisburg. I hope they aren't offering because they don't consider me interested.

I've considered calling, but I thought I would give them one more week. They also took longer than they should have to accept me. Apps with much lower #'s heard back quicker. In fact, I don't believe it was until I called Barbara personally to ask about schools in Carlisle (married - 3 kids) that my acceptance came. I also want to be sure that if they offer really good $$, I'm prepared to say yes. I'd hate to bother them, have them offer a full ride and then tell them I'll think about it!

Timing is everything

Arrived home to find scholarship offer in the mail: $20,000 per year as long as I remain in good standing and in top 50%. I'm not sure why they add both of those stipulations - do they anticipate that I might not be in good standing yet still be in the top half? Thanks for the school info!

I'm betting they took one lok at your address and decided that if you're coming, you're coming as easily with $10K as $15 or $20. I bet a personal appeal will up the ante.

I have a feeling that what they gave you and me is a lowball figure. I would tastefully show them other offers especially from W&M. I plan on writing a letter telling them of other offers. I have mainly talked with Elena De Luca, she is very nice. O, no offense taken and I most likely won't be able to go to the dean recepients dinner. Also, I would like to practice in the D.C area.

Wow, I'm really surprised by their offer. Maybe they don't think you're committed to going here? One thing I was thinking about doing was scheduling an appt. with fin aid people to talk to them and see if I can squeeze more out. You're probably thinking along the same lines. Good luck, I hope you get more $$!

thanks

thanks. About a month ago I sent the office a letter with other scholarships i received from other schools. A couple of days ago I received an e-mail from the Dean saying they were going to increase my scholarship. So just the letter did it for me, no phone calls or anything else. good luck, hope you get an increase (you deserve it)!

I didn't do anything to get penn state to up their offer. They just sent me an e-mail saying they had some extra funds to put towards my Dean's Scholarship. It seems like they have some extra money so now might be the time to ask for more.

I was admitted to the Carlisle campus. Im not sure if I would consider going there. I am still waiting to hear back from a few more schools. If I did decided to go there I would like to see them come a little closer to what DePaul has offered me.

congrats

congrats on the scholarship increase! I don't think I am going to go to PSU. I want to practice in or near D.C. so GMU is looking pretty good right. I will probably withdraw from my other schools next week. Good luck at PSU!

PSU Questions

Hey, congrats on Penn State. I'm trying to decide where I want to go. I've heard from 3 schools, and it's between Penn State (Carlisle) and American. Have you visited Carlisle. What's the atmosphere/community like? Competitive? Social? Friendly? I was hoping they'd give me a scholarship, but I guess no go on that, bummer. Still considering it though, as it's way cheaper than American. Let me know your thoughts on Carlisle (your reply can be shorter than this very very long message!). Thanks!

Thank you :)
