Additional info & updates

LSAT: 159, 163 (Darn, just not great at this test)

Georgetown: Thin envelope, regular waitlist.

Northwestern: Checked online and found out I was waitlisted.

George Mason: Phone call from the Dean of Admissions. Nice to hear from a local school here in D.C. metro area.

USD: Large packet in mail..the beach looks so enticing.

UOP McGeorge: Priority Mail Packet, offered Honors admission. (Although the packet was mangled by the USPS)

George Washington: Ugh. Waitlist. Small thin envelope. The waitlist of oblivion!

American: Priority Mail big package

Hastings: White thick regular size envelope. YAY! If I don't make it anywhere else, I'd be delighted to be back in SF.

Hawaii: White thin regular sized envelope but it's full of good news!

Santa Clara: Regular size thick envelope

Boalt: This is pretty depressing. My own alma mater. They sent the rejection to my permanent address, and my mom had to break the news of the first rejection to me. Lovely.

Sigh....I have an uneasy feeling about the rest of the schools. Granted, I am clearly on the fence for the last ones....

No word yet from the two I really care about left: SC and UVA.

UC Davis: Checked online - GOT IN! Whoohoo. Now, the decisions are going to be increasingly complicated

UVA: Email. General Resident Waitlist. This is a serious bummer. I have learned to hate the waitlist but love it more than a rejection.

Since I seem to be waitlisted everywhere, maybe one wonderful law school will take me!

Wow. I can't believe that USC, W&M, W&L, and Wash U are taking so long! It's almost April.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

W&M can kiss my you know what. Not only do they take forever (March 30 is so unacceptable), but they also classified me as an out-of-state resident a few months back. GRR! Thin envelope with waitlist information.

W&L: thin, regular envelope with waitlist information. There's only one waitlist and they offer the chance for an interview. I have to think about this one....

Now, I know this does not bode well for either USC or Wash U. I guess it really comes down to Davis, Hastings, and American.

Wash U: Make that #7. Regular thin envelope with option to WL. I probably will since none of my acceptances are in the top 20.

USC? ha. Probably one in a million at this point.....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Went and visited both American and George Mason - didn't enjoy either. No deposits.

W&M WITHDRAW - forget that waitlist!

Deposits will be going to the West Coast schools -unless one rocking school takes me off the WL.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
4/27 UC Davis it is --unless one of my #1s come through!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
4/27 W&L just took me off their waitlist. WHAT!? I just got used to the idea of going to Davis. Good lord. This is going to be rough. I received an email earlier today asking if I was still interested, I emailed back saying yes. Then a few hours later - I get the acceptance email! AHHH.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

USC waitlist - big envelope. (Waitlists should NEVER come in big envelopes.) I wait until the end of May for a waitlist!?

---------------------------------------------------------------------
5/22 Visited W&L this weekend - it felt right! Southern hospitality and warmth were unparalleled. So for now, W&L it is!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

5/30 Brutal. Just brutal. I had visited Wash U a month or so back and LOVED it, but was still on the waitlist. Then decided I wanted to go to W&L after last weekend. Why oh why is this process so hard?? Honestly - W&L has really really grown on me but....arghh....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
6/15 After two weeks of serious consideration, I decided on Wash U!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
6/15 An hour after I pay the dough for WUSTL, Northwestern let me know that they'd keep me on the shortened waitlist. (HA GTOWN!)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
6/16 Withdrew from W&L. Tough but necessary. Good luck to those on the W&L waitlist.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

8/3 Got the rejection from USC before I could withdraw...ah well.

Re: Davis

I didn't apply to Hastings (I actually didn't even know it was a good school until I picked up USNWR), so I decided between Davis and Iowa. I got the feeling that Davis is relatively warm and fuzzy--or as close as you can get to that in law school. In Texas, I'm one of something like 50K students on campus, so I decided that I wanted a smaller student body for law school, which Davis has. Also, a student called me and told me that Davis has basically a "strangle hold" on jobs in and around the Sacramento area, which includes everything from large firms to lots of government work. Most of my family is in California/Nevada, so working in Sacramento for few years after law school wouldn't be a terrible hardship (unlike, say, Chicago or Iowa) and might even be an improvement over my current location--there aren't many good Japanese restaurants in Texas. So in all likelihood I'll be going to Davis, unless USC or someone else gives me a made for the movies last minute admit.

wow looks like we're going through the exact same stuff. haha. eerie.

W&L Waitlist
Wednesday, December 14 2005 at 07:00 PM

I'd go to any of those schools I'm still WLd for....since they are all significantly higher ranked than Davis or Hastings.

USC
Thursday, February 02 2006 at 07:00 PM

ooooh i hate them MORE now. i have absolutely no idea what i'm doing.... my partner was accepted to NU and USC for grad school.. i needed to hear from USC by the 15th... NOT the 17th... and they knew this. the 17th does me absolutely no good. maybe we can backstep on acceptances elsewhere, but who knows..... ugggghhh so mad about this. i got an email, but i don't know if that's standard or them "rushing" my decision.... worthless :(

davis

hey...a number of factors tipped the scale for me. i was between hastings and davis and i just liked the smaller school envrionment better - plus all the negative rumors about hastings combined with its size made it seem like not such a good fit for me. i am happy with my choice even though i have to leave the bay area for a while. email me if you like and we can chat more.

On W&L
Saturday, September 10 2005 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on getting in off the waitlist! I have visited W&L. I was really impressed by the laid-back atmosphere. To me, it seemed like a place where students worked hard, but also knew when to relax and have a good time. I was also very impressed by the class I sat in on. The professor was great and made a lesson on a subject that on the surface seemed boring pretty interesting. Also, the socratic method was used, but it wasn't in an aggressive manner. All around, I was just very impressed by the school. Let me know if you have any other questions.

hey

W&L sucks, i would withdraw if I were you :)~ and I only say that cause I have similiar scores, and I need to get in somewhere other then GMU. anyway, congrats on USC and W&L, thats gotta be a tough decision. I wish i had applied to Cali schools

Davis
Tuesday, February 07 2006 at 07:00 PM

Yeah, I wasn't convinced that the ranking difference between Davis and BU was enough to justify automatically choosing BU. So I chose the one that I thought had the best atmosphere and location. Also a good gut feeling.

thanks :)

I was so happy with GWU. Im not sure if I would chose W&L or GWU if given the opportunity. What would you do? this process is tough... Are you submitting a deposit?

hey
Monday, March 13 2006 at 07:00 PM

question, would you choose W&L over GW if given the opportunity? Im trying to way my decision a little bit, in case that acceptance arrives..

CHOOSE WASH U!
Wednesday, January 25 2006 at 07:00 PM

GO WASH U!

congrats...
Tuesday, February 14 2006 at 07:00 PM

did you do anything special to get in off the wash u waitlist? just curious.

hi
Saturday, November 12 2005 at 07:00 PM

question: i am trying to decide between american and wash U - I am from the east coast and would like to return to nyc after graduation; my interests are in international law. Which would you say - wash u or american? Since you are from cali, would you be wary attending wash U whose base seems to be the mid-west? What are your thoughts

hi
Saturday, November 12 2005 at 07:00 PM

yeah i hear you - i am open to staying in DC if i must - i like that it is quite international of a city. Looking at statistics, Wash U places about 10% in nyc area which could be due to the lack of interest. They have an off-campus interviewing program in NYC - don't know how well that does though. I guess I have heard that people going to schools on the midwest have a hard time coming back to the east coast. You're not nervous at all? Wash U is definitely a beatiful campus though. I dunno - very confused at the moment.

haha
Saturday, November 12 2005 at 07:00 PM

you are on at the moment too, right?

Wash U
Wednesday, July 13 2005 at 08:00 PM

Wow, you're the second person to tell me to go visit. Do you get the sense that at this stage in the game it would be truly beneficial to go visit? Thanks !
