My cycle has officially ended. Now time to post some things about myself.

Military Experience
Disadvantaged upbring (Had to help raise my siblings)
1st in family to graduate college
Volunteered to help similary disadvantaged children
Presented extensive research in 2 undergrad research conferences
Worked my way up in the banking industry throughout school
Legal education started in High School

I hope this helps some of the people in my same boat.

Good luck to all the future attorneys.

Additional info & updates

I just completed all my applications. What a relief. I was somewhat disappointed with my Lsat score but I have confidence that someone will let me in. I am hoping to be admitted to Northeastern since I love their co-op program but, I'll be happy anywhere.

I think I have alot to offer any school. I just hope they see that and let me in the door.

Good luck to all those who are in my same LSAT range. Just remember it is just a number and has nothing to do with your overall capabilities. Like I alway say " Know your worth and everyone else will too."

Best of luck!!!

-All scholarhips are total $$ throughout attendance-

*Decisions*
02-02-07-Found out that Hofstra sent an acceptance email to everyone who applied. So I guess I'm still waiting on their decision.

02-05-07-Rejected from St. Johns. Kind of expected it but it still stings. I hope I get some good news soon.

02-06-07-Accepted to NYLS AAMPLE program. If anyone has any information about this program please share.

02-07-07-In at Hofstra. I'm so happy a tier 2 school took a chance on me and I got a scholarship to boot. Now lets see what other news the mailman brings.

02-16-07- In at FCSL. The tuition is right but I'm not sure if I'm ready for the move yet. I'll have to weigh out all my options in March.

02-23-07-In at NESL and Suffolk. Wow I can't believe these acceptances. I have choices after all.

02-24-07-Rejected from BC. No worries, I still have four acceptances and many more decisions to come.

03-04-07-Awarded a 15K grant for my first year from Suffolk. This decision process is getting harder.

03-05-07-Waitlisted at Pace. I guess my LSAT score wasn't high enough. I love White Plains and would like to live there but we'll see what happens towards the end of the cycle.

03-15-07-Rejected from Fordham. Kinda of disappointed though expected. This almost eliminates my hopes of getting into BU. Too bad!!

03-16-07-Withdrew from Florida Coastal. This was a super saftey school and now that I know I have choices, I want to free up spots for others who really want to attend.

03-26-07-Rejected from Rutgers-Newark. A bit disappointed since they say that they will review you based on accomplishments. I think they are too concerned with their tier status to try and recruit quality candidates. I will take my rejection in stride and be the best law student I can be elsewhere.

03-28-07-No decisions today but I thought I'd write anyway. I am having a really tough time deciding which school to attend. I went to a diversity OH at Suffolk and a ASW at Hofstra and based soley on my experiences there I would choose Suffolk but I am still curious about the financial awards. Nesl is lagging behind but I have an ASW tomorrow there and you never know. This process is so confusing I am so scared that I wont pick the best school for me. Wish me luck!!!

03-31-07-Went to a NESL open house and decided to withdraw. I won't share my entire experience but I will say that a curent student said, "NESL is like high school. They have cliques and you have to find one that you fit into." Need I say more.

04-03-07-OMG Suffolk is officially a tier 3 school according to US NEWS 2008 report. I am super excited. This school is doing big things and I just may want to be apart of it.

04-07-07-Rejected from NUSL. I'm a little hurt by this but I am happy with all my acceptance thus far. I am putting down a deposit at Suffolk today and waiting on the financials from Hofstra before making my final decision. It is looking like I will be headed to Suffolk.

04-09-07-Awarded 8K more from Hofstra. I will withdraw soon. My decision has been made.

05-01-07-Awarded 3K more from Suffolk. I love this school!!

05-11-07-Accepted to Pace. I still want to attend Suffolk but all my family is in NY. Tough decision indeed.

I will be attending Suffolk as a 2010 1L.

O.k. So I gave it alot of thought and I am completly confused. Should I go to Suffolk or Pace? I want to practice entertainment law. What school would be best for me?

Final Decision: I will be attending Pace Law School as a 2010 1L. It just makes more sense for me financially and geographically.

Pace Acceptance

Hey, thanks! Pace acceptance came in a large white envelope...you'll know it's an acceptance. Best of luck, I'm sure you'll do well...

Nicely put
Thursday, January 04 2007 at 07:00 PM

I completely agree with your LSAT comment. Schools place way too much emphasis on the LSAT, and it's preventing talented people, such as yourself, from applying/getting in to the schools they want. I hope you get into Northeastern. Best of luck!

TOP Choice
Thursday, November 16 2006 at 07:00 PM

Thanks! I'd say my top choices right now are Notre Dame and Wisconsin, but I'm a longshot at both. I'm really happy with my acceptances right now, and would definitely be happy at South Carolina or Syracuse. I agree with your LSAT comment, best of luck to you!!

Northeastern
Saturday, January 13 2007 at 07:00 PM

Wow..I'll love to go to Northeastern too...I hope they at least take a look at my application with my LSAT score....I hope ur deferral there comes in favourable for you

Entertainment Law
Tuesday, November 14 2006 at 07:00 PM

Hey. UCLA has an amazing Entertainment Law program. If you're curious about schools that might have some classes related to entertainment law I've found that if you look under Intellectual Property courses that this is usually where it's listed. But unfortunately the schools with amazing and well respected Entertainment Law programs happen to be UCLA, USC, Cal, Columbia and NYU. Basically schools in LA or in NY have some kind of emphasis since this is where you would end up working. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the encouragement! It looks like you've got a great lineup of schools you've applied to. I wish you the best of luck in the application process!

NYLS
Monday, September 18 2006 at 08:00 PM

Hey, I also got into NYLS AAMPLE today. I know that NYLS and Nova have the same AAMPLE program, and Nova's is supposedly very poor. Last year, only 7/80 people in Nova's AAMPLE actually made it into law school. I've heard it's a major rip-off and haven't heard any positive comments. NYLS could have a higher success rate than Nova even though it's the exact same program--I can't find any data. Congratulations on Hofstra, though! Best of luck in the rest of the cycle!

Deans

Hofstra: Deans Scholarship, 20k annually as long as I keep above a 3.2 there. Noticed you got into NYLS. Im visiting NY next week to tour Hofstra and NYLS, whats your top choice?

First Choice
Sunday, January 07 2007 at 07:00 PM

Really hoping for Pace, Temple, Villanova, or St Johns. I know they're all long shots with my numbers, but maybe I'll get a waitlisted acceptance. If they alll reject me, I may very well be seeing you at NYLS come august.

No AAMPLE Admission here. Waiting on my other schools -- just hoping that LSAT's don't control my entire future and the other parts of my application are actually reviewed. Anyway, best of luck to you and please stay in touch as I'd love to hear your future acceptances etc.

Thank you, I appreciate your advice. The decision to put down the deposit was a very hard one, and after speaking to many academic advisors and the Career Services here, they all suggested I put down the deposit to keep my options open, especially condsidering how my numbers are. Obviously, if I do get in somewhere else, I will take that opportunity instead. Good luck with the rest of your apps!

Pace Interview
Wednesday, March 15 2006 at 07:00 PM

Did you interview with a Pace counselor or with an Alumni? I interviewed with an Alumni in the Philadelphia area.

Pace
Sunday, January 07 2007 at 07:00 PM

I did an interview with Linda Lancia last week. Lasted less than 10 minutes. I hope it helped, because Pace is pretty high on my list.

Hofstra
Thursday, October 26 2006 at 08:00 PM

I'm hopign I have the same luck with Hofstra as you did. It is really pissing me off that the schools can't see past my LSAT scores and see I have never earned lower than a B in my collge career and am graduating in 3 years with one semester being a full-time internship with the NYS Senate. Anyway, I calle dall the schools and they all said my file is being reviewed by their comm.'s so hopefully I hear soem good news soon. Congrats and best of luck to you and please stay in touch - any comments will be helpful and appreciated!

and thank you for your kind words as well. My pop went to undergrad at Hofstra and liked it. It is nice to see that every once in a while adcomms look at more than just your LSAT (especially when you do much better on a prep test but not as well on test day). Any areas of the law you are focusing on? I am undecided what to pursue at Flo Co but they have strong health and sports law programs. I wish you all the best as a 1L

Love it!!!
Thursday, September 21 2006 at 08:00 PM

Your LSAT comments and comments about self worth are so inspiring. I loved it! I am in a different boat because my LSAT is what is getting me my serious looks and saving my disgusting GPA. Well congrats on the HOFSTRA acceptance and be blessed throughout the rest of your cycle.

Not sure
Wednesday, May 17 2006 at 08:00 PM

about which areas will appeal to me the most. My SPCA work guides me toward animal law, but 2 areas that are rapidly expanding in Fla are elder care and health law (especially with all the baby boomers retiring) and consumer law (fraud and identity theft). I'm sure I will change my mind a few times before deciding. Peace

Way to go on your acceptance to Florida Coastal...and a scholarship too!? That's great--I'm sure you'll see even more acceptances in the weeks to come. Congratulations to a future attorney!

Big Kuddos!
Sunday, November 26 2006 at 07:00 PM

Great Job! We're both applying to Pace & New England. I am thinking about considering Hofstra. What are you thoughts about the school?

Congrats
Saturday, October 29 2005 at 08:00 PM

all on your acceptances so far. Did you write a separate diversity statement for Fordham?

Congrats
Sunday, February 11 2007 at 07:00 PM

... on Suffolk and Hofstra. Why Suffolk over Hofstra, I wonder? Massachusetts native?

Comments
Sunday, February 11 2007 at 07:00 PM

Being a Bay Stater, I'm of the opinion that Suffolk is HIGHLY overrated. They do place well in the Boston market (top 10% or so) and most smaller cities and towns in Massachusetts and the nearby parts of New England (RI, NH, ME, not so much VT or CT) if you're top-half. The bottom half has a hard time scraping up a job, though, and the bottom quarter is pretty screwed. Hofstra is a better school overall, I think, but it has a narrower range in which to place its graduates.

suffolk
Sunday, October 01 2006 at 08:00 PM

Hey, noticed your Suffolk/Hofstra dilemma...I know little about Hofstra, but know several very successful attorneys who went to Suffolk...I've heard that the job market for Suffolk grads in Boston and RI is excellent. Also, if you're interested in trial ad, it's probably the best in Boston. Just giving my two cents...

yet with your $$$ from Hofstra...
Sunday, October 01 2006 at 08:00 PM

well that's a different story. Suffolk IS very expensive, as is Boston...However, Hofstra should place well in NYC and NJ.

thanks
Sunday, October 01 2006 at 08:00 PM

so much...I was sweating that one! Is ALS my top choice? Probably not, but I don't think I'll get into U. Wisconsin or Brooklyn. I think Albany is a very underrated school, and that I'll be very happy there and get a great education. Having said that, if I somehow got into either Rutgers or St. John's I'd have quite a decision to make. I'm hoping for the PT program at those two. As for Suffolk, I think it's a great school, but I'd like to get a bit further away from home (Providence, RI).

Thanks
Sunday, December 24 2006 at 07:00 PM

UMKC is my top choice, then Washburn. I should hear from KC this week, and I'm pulling my f-ing hair out. Yours?

Thanks.
Wednesday, September 20 2006 at 08:00 PM

I didn't write a diversity statement. I only submitted a regular personal statement. Congrats on all your acceptances so far as well.

By the way
Wednesday, September 20 2006 at 08:00 PM

Is Hofstra a tier 2? I was under the impression that it was tier 3.

Congrats
Friday, May 26 2006 at 08:00 PM

Thank you for your kind comment. I'm very happy to see you got in Hofstra. Good luck with everything else!

They all seem like good schools, but remember that each school is going to be a good fit for somebody. Best of luck.

BTW
Sunday, December 24 2006 at 07:00 PM

Hofstra deserves a good, hard look.

thanks
Monday, January 01 2007 at 07:00 PM

thanks for the kind words. You look like you're doing pretty well too. I'm leaning towards FIU because I live in S. Florida and its cheap. Congrats on Hofstra.

choices
Tuesday, January 09 2007 at 07:00 PM

Thanks...right now im kind of torn between staying in NY or going to Fl. So for now my top choice is Pace

thanks!
Monday, March 05 2007 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for the nice comment... yeah, having no GPA is odd. I am not too happy with my lsat score, but I have only gotten one acceptance. Everyday I hope for more choices... Good luck with all yours!

Northeastern Admission??
Saturday, January 13 2007 at 07:00 PM

Mlaw, i know you are very keen on Northeastern. I got an email inviting to an admitted students event, but I am being careful just incase its a mistake. Maybe something is coming in the mail..I hope so

not sure
Tuesday, November 14 2006 at 07:00 PM

Hey! I still haven't decided yet, but I've withdrawn from a bunch of schools and as of now I have it narrowed down to Santa Clara and Rutgers Camden for the ones that have accepted me. Santa Clara has a really good IP law program so it's kind of winning out right now. But if DePaul pulls me off their waitlist I would go there since they have a good IP program AND it's in a big city. But I still have some schools to hear back from. What about you?

Top Choice
Wednesday, January 10 2007 at 07:00 PM

Right now it is Rutgers-Newark, but if I don't get in there I am going to look at Suffolk and NESL. Hopefully NYLS will eventually say yes and I might go there. Still waiting on Denver and San Diego, would like to leave the NY area if I had a chance. Good luck on the rest of your apps!!

So, you getting close to making a decision? I got an envelope from Hofstra thinking it was a rejection because it was thin. I opened and it was something about replacing the dean..phew

SUFFOLK
Saturday, January 27 2007 at 07:00 PM

My reasons for liking Suffolk are as follows: 1. Beautiful building in the heart of Boston 2. Very nice people so far, I like the atmosphere 3. Liked the law library 4. Solid bar passage rate in-state and out of state (85% I think) 5. They have a spring break! 6. Personal reason: Near my girlfriend's school in Boston 7. Good reputation, especially in RI where I might plan on working/living 8. Realistic about LSAT - automatically take higher score 9. Have heard very good things from alumni

Suffolk
Sunday, October 16 2005 at 08:00 PM

Yo man, suffolk is lookin like the place for me, after an interveiw i had and seeing the building/friends who go/went there talkin to me, it seems awesome. I am goin part-time too so i can work and make some extra $/Experience. Let me know if there are any q's, I was torn between NESL and Suffolk but i felt suffolk has better prospects, buildings and it was a quality fit.

Congrats on your acceptance to Hofstra Law! It is a great program and I hope I get in too. What was your gpa?

Wednesday, January 10 2007 at 07:00 PM

No, I want to withdraw from Western New England. I heard that they are on the verge of loosing their ABA accreditation. Thanks for the Help

Hofstra
Wednesday, November 15 2006 at 07:00 PM

The motivating factor is, really, a lack of options and Hofstra's being the best option. To be honest, though, I was pleased with my visit to the university, and there are certainly factors that I am thrilled with. Professor Monroe Freedman is THE BEST there is when it comes to legal ethics. I love the proximity to the city. I love the 2 week summer program in Sorrento, Italy that is regularly taught by US Supreme Court Justices. So, basically, it's the best option I currently have, and that's why I'm going. But I like Hofstra. I don't know why everyone hates on them so hard.

Suffolk/Hofstra
Wednesday, November 15 2006 at 07:00 PM

Good luck to you too. I'm sure you'll make an educated decision. FYI, the attorney at my firm that everyone turns to for legal writing advice graduated from Suffolk. Best of luck!

NESL Open House
Wednesday, December 27 2006 at 07:00 PM

Hi! Yes I did go to the open house last Friday. I thought it could have been organized better, but overall I got a good impression of the school. The students and professors I talked to were really nice, and I liked their clinical program. At the end of the day its hard to turn away from the scholarship $$ Good luck with your decision!!

Congratulations
