Additional info & updates

This is my second app cycle. I was admitted to U of Tulsa in 2006 (dante) and attended first semester of 1L. I ended up having to withdraw from school after our family ran into some financial problems. Took a couple years off and now I am applying again. For those considering TU, I would recommend it. Great school and nice people. Profs are interested in their students and seem to care. I enjoyed my time there, as you can see it was one of my first apps I sent out.

Several years of law enforcement experience. Various academic awards.

09/06/08 - Getting the process going. Sent out apps to Washburn, TU, UMKC, Miss, and Roger Williams. Waiting to go complete. Will update as soon as I hear something.

02/06/09 - Hello everyone. Some things have indeed happened since my last update. Just now getting around to updating some of those changes. As you can see, I am in at about half of my schools so far.

I am back in at TU, which is great as I really liked my first go around there. Anyone considering TU should strongly look at them. They are great to their students, the library is wonderful, and the profs seem to care for their students.

Mississippi college sent me some love in the form of a seat. The Dean included a handwritten note on the acceptance letter which was a nice touch. They seem to also look at the whole person which is refreshing.

Oklahoma City came through for me like they did in my first cycle. I almost went to OCU my first cycle. My wife finding a job closer to Tulsa was the final factor in the decision of TU over OCU. OCU is in the process of accepting applications for a full ride with $$ for books and a living stipend. I am in the process of applying for this. Will keep you posted as to how it turns out.

I have been in touch with Roger Williams, UMKC, and Washburn in the last couple of weeks. Seems there was a little confusion between LSAC and their schools concerning my prior law school attendence. The matter has been cleared up and I am now in committee with all the schools as we speak. I will update with the results as they come in.

The application cycle is quickly approaching seat deposit deadlines, so things should pick up. Just want to wish all good luck as the last weeks start counting down.

02/09/2009 - Received telephone call from Washburn today. I have been accepted with the packet to follow in the mail in a few days. Pretty excited as Washburn is one of my top choices. Things are finally starting to wrap up it seems. Just two more schools to hear from. I will keep you posted.

02/17/2009 - Large envelope in the mail today from RWU. I was admitted with some $$$ too. Only UMKC left to hear from.

03/06/2009 - Email from UMKC stating that I was waitlisted. This was my last school I was waiting on, so things are pretty much finished. Will take that next week to finish up my decision and then send out the withdrawal letters. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear.

03/18/2009 - Letters to OCU, RWU, and Mississippi withdrawing. I am pretty sure I am heading to Washburn at this point, though Tulsa isn't out of the mix quite yet. Lot depends on my spouse's job hunt. I will keep everyone up today.

04/10/2009 - Well, looks like the decision has been finally made. I withdrew from TU today. I will be attending Washburn in the fall. I am excited to get back to Kansas. My wife and I sent out a deposit for our house today, we will be moving in May, and she starts working at her new job in June. Things are looking up. I just wanted to personally thank everyone for the words of encouragement, information provided, and advise along the way. Good luck to everyone still waiting for decisions, and good luck on your future time in school. I am sure that with hard work, we will all move from applicant to student to lawyer someday. Best wishes!

Hello dante2009, Just curious, but did you apply for spring or fall admissions at Washburn? I applied for the spring 2009 term and I'm trying to see if anyone else out there did too! Good luck!

Please update us on how your cycle is going! You got your apps in SO early, that's awesome. Certainly that gave you some head-way over other applicants. Good luck!

Haven't you heard from any of these schools? Your numbers are really good, I would have thought you would get a response by now.

Thanks

Hey, thanks for updating. I'm still shocked you haven't heard from 3 schools. Congrats on the acceptances so far, though.

Hey, thanks for the updates. I noticed you said there was some confusion with your previous law school attendance. Do you think I should be worried that I haven't heard from Washburn yet? I also applied in September. UMKC is another I have yet to hear from.

Hey, did you ever call Washburn to check the status of your application? I really want to but don't want to "pester" them. I'm not sure if they expect applicants to call or if they think it's annoying. Any advice?

Are you going on campus to interview for the scholarship in March?

Your Cycle

Looks like you've had a pretty awesome cycle! Where are you leaning towards attending?

Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on your acceptances. So, you got WL from UMKC, too. Lucky us. Leaning towards a particular school yet?

Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

Have you visited Washburn? I haven't but would like to. No sense to really at the moment though, seeing as how I was WL. Good luck to your wife's job-hunting. I check out local paralegal jobs all the time to compare my job to others that are out there; there's quite a few open positions in the KC area in the legal field, believe it or not. Have no idea how the job market is outside of legal, but, though I'd let ya know.

Nothing too new to report on my end. I did just visit OCU last Friday though and I really liked it. I liked it more than UMKC. Haven't heard back from them or WU yet, though. Sent them both LOCI last month and that's all I know. I'm actually not sure I even want to go to UMKC anymore. The thought of going to OCU and actually being able to excel there lures me. At UMKC I'd just be a mediocre ranking. Too much to try and figure out! I would really like to visit Washburn. I should set something up sooner rather than later. There's always their January-start program I could consider...
