Additional info & updates

2/01 - Sent Letter of Continued Interest to Kentucky. Will make deferred decision mid month.

2/09 - Deferred from Northern Kentucky.

2/10 - Withdrew app from Florida Coastal. Not really interested in a for-profit institution, and tuition is steep even with a scholarship.

2/11 - Visited OCU, very interested. Despite low Us News Ranking, the faculty and staff are very personable and campus is nice. Oklahoma City is an up and coming area as well. Only worried about employment aspects out of Oklahoma City area. Applying for Hatton Sumners (Full Tuition, Book Stipend, Living Stipend) -- will know next month.

2/17 - Deferred AGAIN at Kentucky until March 12th. Deferred at Nebraska until late April.

2/18 - Selected as finalist for Hatton Sumners Scholarship at OCU! Going on campus for an interview next month.

2/28 - Deferred at Louisville. Ouch -- waiting to see what Kentucky, Louisville, & Nebraska will decide on, and hoping hard core to get a full ride at OCU.

03/04 - Withdrew some apps today. It is between Oklahoma City, UMKC, SLU (the acceptances) and UK, Louisville, & Nebraska (the taunting waitlists). Having a final 6 makes me feel a tad more sane!

03/19 - Deferred a third time at Kentucky until next week. Withdrew from Nebraska. Will know about possible full ride to OCU any day now. I will be attending SLU's admitted students weekend, but have no idea how I would pay for tuition. Realistically speaking, I think UMKC is my best bet.

03/20 - Was not selected for Hatton Sumners scholarship. I felt really good about my chances but understand there were others more qualified.

03/25 - Received a 6k/year increase on my scholarship at OCU. Im excited about this and it is nice to know that someone wants me! I will know Friday if I am accepted to UK and next week I'll know about Louisville. This cycle is almost over and I could not be happier about it!! Is anyone else still undecided this late in the game?

04/07 - Waitlisted at Kentucky. Withdrawing from SLU (to expensive) and Oklahoma (don't want to live there). Sent my seat deposit to UMKC today! Louisville and Kentucky are great schools, but I can't wait for them. Was in KC this weekend and found a place to live already. Anybody at UMKC for the fall?

04/22 - Accepted at Nebraska after I withdrew, wierd! UK not using the waitlist this year... so umkc is definately where I will end up pending a miracle scholarship offer from U of L.

06/01 - Accepted to Louisville. Way too late though, try not to think about what could have been with that. Moved in to Kansas City and pumped to start in the fall!

Congrats on UMKC & St. Louis-that's a good school. Are you leaning towards any one particular school yet?

Thanks, I'll gratefully take your spot @ UMKC! Good luck on Hatton - I got a packet about that but I missed the deadline I think. My boss went to OCU and he liked it, so I've heard it's a good place. And you've already got 2 free years - nicely done!

I know EXACTLY how you feel... It's a bummer but there's still hope at least! Congrats on SLU (I'm envious)! I went there last week and LOVED it so... Fingers are crossed that your #1 comes through for you!

So glad to see someone can relate...MU appears to only be accepting people over their previous LSAT median despite their GPA. I have been thinking maybe law school will have to wait if I can't get in here, as I have basically decided that SLU is too expensive (so is everywhere else out of state)UMKC will keep me in KC. Ugh. Is Northern Kentucky your top choice for next year? If they don't send me a scholarship soon, I will likely withdraw...I hope you get my spot!

hey! I haven't heard back from them about it, so I'm guessing I didn't get the interview.. oh well. But congratulations!!!

Update
Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

No update as to UMKC where I was WL. Just got an email this morning saying I got in at OCU. I'm assuming scholarship info comes with the acceptance letter in the mail? I'm obviously not going there without some kind money. Like, $45,000 kind of money, which I don't think I'll get. But that would make OCU cost the same as UMKC. So, we'll see what happens. IDK. Just stuck right now. I need to send a LOCI to UMKC. I've been slacking and need to do that TODAY. Let me know when you hear about any of your WL.

UMKC OCU
Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

Yeah, I would def choose UMKC over OCU. I just don't know if I'm going to get in to UMKC! LOL. OCU is $30k/year and UMKC is only $15k/year, so...that's a no brainer. I'd like to stay in KC, yes. So if I don't get into UMKC I may wait and apply again for 2010? Not sure...we'll see what happens!

I actually didn't apply for it, and I kind of wish I would have. I was accepted to OU though and I think I'd rather go to OU at sticker than OCU. Either way good luck with your interview.

Hey thanks, sorry I'm just getting back to you. To answer your question, nope. I have no plans on being your competion on that one. :) Good luck though!

I didn't send anything in when they waitlisted me. I guess it might have been a deferral instead. Good luck on the rest of the cycle.

Thank you. I'm considering only if I can get more money. They sent something in the admissions packet about another scholarship for me to apply to. I'm going to do that this weekend and hopefully get some more money. But I mean, even if I don't get more money, if Washburn & UMKC both end up rejecting me, it'll be my only choice. I have no idea. I'm married, so moving away to OK for 3 years would be...difficult. I'm so confused about what to do. Apparently, I should have applied to more schools. I will be down at OCU on March 27th.

I just read your profile about getting an interview for the Hatton Scholarship. That's AWESOME! Good luck!!!

Friday, December 19 2008 at 07:00 PM

Tell me about it! I might just withdraw my application... April is just a little too long for me to have to wait for a school that isn't even my top choice!

Hatton Scholarship
Friday, September 05 2008 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on making it to the finals. I applied but didn't make it to the finals. This pretty muchs takes OCU out of the picture for me. I did get a scholarship from them that would bring the cost down to around 15000.00 a year, but I was accepted to Washburn and that is the standard cost there. It makes more sense to me to attend Washburn, as I won't have to worry about grades. Anyway, good luck on Hatton.

Hey there! I finally got the letter from OCU telling me I wasn't a finalist. I wasn't really expecting to be, so it's all good, and I'm still considering OCU as an option! Best of luck to you with the interviews, you'll have to let me know how they go!

Did you find out your status from UDC via there online service or snail mail?

Sunday, October 26 2008 at 08:00 PM

They let me know the date that my application was going to be "re-reviewed" and I got an email the day afterwards with my acceptance. I have not received my notification by mail yet. I have been getting my date of review throughout the cycle and it appears the committee meets on Thursdays...but don't hold me to that. Hang in there!!

OCU
Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

Really? So you liked OCU when you visited? I'm going there this coming weekend, actually. I would have waited until Dean's Preview, or whatever it's called, on April 2nd, but didn't know about that at the time I RSVPd for Preview Friday. Oh well. Where do you live? I'm assuming you've visited UMKC?

UMKC
Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

Let me know how you like UMKC. After OCU, don't hold your breath! LOL. They're not nearly as nice. I learned so much visiting OCU last Friday it's stupid. Like, seriously, for as long as I've been going to UMKC for undergrad, talking to pre-law advisors, visiting UMKC law school, etc etc, I knew NOTHING about law school apparently. OCU taught me a lot - I REALLY like it there. I would love to go there. How'd you manage an increase in your scholarship there? Did they just call/write you and say "hey, here's some more money?". That's awesome. I applied for an additional scholarship at OCU and I find out if I get it either this week or next. I'll make my decision after I hear word about that. ~I sat in on...Gibson's class I think? The Contracts professor. He was good. About as lively as a contracts professor could be! LOL. It was fun.

Thanks!

Thanks for the congrats and congrats to you, on UMKC! The Founders Enrollment program for Hamline is basically a program where they take 20 people with lower LSAT scores and/or GPAs and offer them outright acceptance on the condition that they take a Legal Methods course throughout the semester to help with studying and take one less class per semester throughout the first year. I am really excited about it! That school, Washburn and UMKC were my top schools. Washburn and UMKC both dinged me so I know that I am going somewhere and I am super excited! You have great extracurriculars, love that you're fluent in Spanish! Did you study abroad in Spain?
