Additional info & updates

Hey everyone, please feel free to leave any comments or send me a message with questions, comments, etc. I am 22 years old and I am a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. These are all the schools I have applied to so far, and all the ones I plan on applying to. I know my LSAT score is low, but I have completed Cooley's PEP conditional acceptance program, and am waiting to hear back from them. If anyone has any questions about this program feel free to ask me. I found it to be a very challenging yet worthwhile experience. The reason I am applying to law school is to fulfill my dream of working in the music industry. Music has been my life for many years and a law degree is a great way to get into that profession.

12/10/10- The rejection letters (no surprise at all) just keep pouring in. Appalachian, Phoenix, Florida Coastal, North Carolina Central all have sent me rejection letters over the last month.

2/25/11- I got my notification telling me I was accepted into Cooley's PEP admission program. This is a big relief, the week long course is in August and I can't wait!

3/21/11- Another rejection letter, this time from Duquesne. Oh well, I was expecting that anyway.

4/26/11- I'm all registered for PEP. I withdrew my applications to Southern and UDC because they don't have any entertainment law classes and I didn't think I was going to get in anyway. It's ridiculous to make people wait 6-7 months for an admission decision. I'm glad to see Cooley has an Entertainment Law Society as well as a lot of entertainment law courses.

5/10/11- I applied to Charlotte Law today for the hell of it. Maybe I'll get lucky.

5/15/11- UDC finally sent me a decision which was a rejection letter, no surprise there. They really should try to be more efficient. The good news is I graduate next week and I made the Dean's List again, winning!

5/23/11- I got rejected from Charlotte Law today. I expected that so it's no big deal. Plans are still on for Cooley PEP in August though.

6/1/11- After six months I finally got my decision back from Southern Law, which was a rejection. No surprise there, but they sure took their sweet time.

6/27/11- Cooley had me take a Myers Briggs personality test as a part of PEP. I wonder why they did that?

7/10/11- In preparation for PEP Cooley sends you about 25 cases to brief and a literacy guide to go along with it. It's a lot of work but worth it if that means a seat in law school.

8/1/11- I'm at PEP now , hopefully this goes well.

8/8/11- Back from PEP, now I have to wait a few weeks for their final decision. It's going to be hard to wait, I'm really excited to hear back from them.

8/24/11- Accepted into Cooley! I start in January, and I can't wait!

LSAT

retake retake retake. Google BluePrint Prep and look into Movie 2.0. Take time off of everything (3-4 months) and study study study. Learn the LSAT inside and out till you own it. Then, and only then, sign up for the october of december 2011 LSAT.

I will definitely take the LSAT again if I don't get into any schools, but I'm going to do this PEP program at Cooley first and see how that goes. If they accept me, then it would be pointless in my opinion to spend another $140 to take the LSAT again. I don't care where I get into law school, just as long as it is ABA accredited.

Entertainment Lawyers?
Saturday, March 12 2011 at 07:00 PM

Is anyone else considering using their law degree to go into the entertainment industry?

UDC

Yeah, I just sent off an email to the admission dean. I hoping to find out by the end of this month.

UDC

Has anyone else had to wait five months for a decision from UDC? This is ridiculous!

UDC

Yeah, no response from anyone after my email. Only been 4.5 months for me. But didn't you say your application would be reviewed this week. Going from that, mine should be reviewed next month...great...

Response to Joseph

Hi Joseph, when did you apply? I applied in late October and they notified me within a week that I was being considered for PEP. In late February I got the letter inviting me to attend PEP during the first week in August. What kind of law do you want to practice?

Thanks lawforme22, I'm trying to stay positive!

Saturday, March 12 2011 at 07:00 PM

Thanks sriegert, I'm pretty confident that everything will work out with Cooley which means I'll be able to start law school in January. Thank you for the kind words though.

Hey, I appreciate your concern, but I'll take my chances with them. I know that I have a very strong drive and work ethic that will help me succeed. As long as the school is accredited I don't care where it is or its reputation. After I get my J.D it's really up to me when it comes to how hard I'm willing to work to be successful. I've had a lot of lawyers tell me (that have done very well for themselves) it doesn't matter where you go as long as the school is accredited, the rest is up to you, the graduate.

Saturday, March 12 2011 at 07:00 PM

Also, blackman1, I saw on your profile you mentioned you've received some racist comments on this website. That's fucked up that we're more than a decade into the 21st century and people still think that way. Keep going man, you'll do well, don't let ignorant assholes hold you back. Besides you got a higher LSAT score than many people on this website, so they have no reason to say shit to you.

Best wishes!

I wish you the best with your PEP Cooley program. I hope that they will do right by you, and offer you a seat in the end. I heard that some programs just want money. Keep us posted as to how it goes, and again, good luck on getting in!

Thanks sriegert, I can't wait to go. I just want to get it over with! I leave August 1st and will be done on the 7th.

I had the same scores as you last year
Tuesday, August 04 2009 at 08:00 PM

Hey just wanted to let you know that I had the same exact scores as you last enrollment period and I am currently at a great law school in Massachusetts. I would caution you with one thing, that I keep seeing you mention. You mention that you want to enter into the Music Industry, and are looking for a specialization. I hate to break it to you but most of the law schools do not give you a concentration area. They merely give you a general degree and then you can get your LLM in a specialization area. I would caution you about Cooley, they accept everyone and they are notoriously known for taking kids in their PEP program to cover monetary expenses. Cooley has the rep of being the worst law school in the country, I know some schools that will be accredited this year that are much better. If I were you, I would look into University of Massachusetts School of Law. It is the first public law school in the State of Massachusetts, and the school just had its first class last year. The ABA has a site visit scheduled for Novemeber and school should be accredited by March. Way better than Cooley.

re: csteger
Saturday, March 12 2011 at 07:00 PM

Hi csteger, yes I'm aware that a law student must take a general curriculum to get their J.D and will not offer much in the way of a specialization. I'm getting my masters online in Entertainment Business now so I think that's a good place to start. I leave for PEP on Monday, so I'll be interested to see what it's like. Cooley also has a lot of Entertainment Law courses as well as an Entertainment Law society, so if it all works out I'll take my chances with them, thanks for the input though.

Question!
Tuesday, December 21 2010 at 07:00 PM

How did PEP go for you? I'd love to hear all about it, and what your plans are right now!

re: Question!
Saturday, March 12 2011 at 07:00 PM

Hi sriegert, PEP was a very grueling week. There were about 25 people in my group and we had class every day from 9 am to 5 pm. Some nights even went past 7 pm. We had to brief about 30 cases before we even got there and had to do a supplemental content literacy guide as well. We had nightly homework assignments that were all based around the week's lecture topic which was intentional torts. We toured the school on Friday, had a free day to study on Saturday, then took the final exam on Sunday. Overall, it was a great experience and I'm glad I did it, because if everything works out I'll already know how to brief a case and do some legal analysis when I start. Also, Cooley's scheduling is extremely flexible and they have a lot of different ways for you to finish your law degree quickly. Thanks a lot for asking, I hope law school works out for you.
