Additional info & updates

2/9/07 - Everybody knows already, but for the sake of accuracy, I've been held at Columbia. Look to see some exciting withdraw action pending Michigan's ASW.

12/22/06 - In at NYU. I'm not going, but it's nice to know that, technically, I've my choice of law schools. C'mon Columbia. what's taking so long?

12/21/06 - Technically I got the call yesterday, but I'm the dumb@ss who didn't answer the phone . . . FULL DARROW. I almost told Dean Zearfoss to Shut. Up., but in retrospect, I'm glad I managed to keep that one to myself.

12/11/06 - Darrow essay's confirmed in . . . and every available body part is crossed.

12/08/06 (Pt.2) - Got an invite to apply for the Darrow at Michigan. Really excited, but man, I thought I was done with the essays.

12/08/06 - Email confirmation of completion from Columbia on the 6th, NYU today.

12/05/06 - I'm verbally complete at Columbia, just waiting for the email, which should arrive in a day or two. According to the office it's apparently straight to the adcomm for me, since my app's been this close to complete for over a month. Fingers crossed and all that.

So no Penn or Stanford; getting my LORs is way too much of a hassle. Still haven't heard from NYU, but whatev.

12/04/06 - It's official, complete with big envelope; I'm in at Michigan!! Now I can finally breathe a bit easier, I know I'll be going somewhere, right? And they accepted me for the summer start program, which is a HUGE draw . . . and hence why they're now my #2 choice. Dean Zearfoss might be the coolest admissions officer ever, she actually hand wrote a note to me on my acceptance letter. I'm sure she does that for tons of folk, but it definitely made it feel special, you know?

If Columbia actually recieved the latest incarnation of my LOR via e-mail (I am really, really horrified by the USPS in New Orleans, I have to say), I will likely withdraw my apps to Stanford and Penn - if I'm moving, there's honestly only one place I really want to go. So, essentially, it's down to Columbia, Michigan and money.

11/30/06 - Got mail from Stanford today, nothing spectacular. The freakin' weird thing though (and pretty much the only reason the mail call's of note) is that, according to Stanford, at the request of their BLS, some example resumes and personal statements were included with my prospectus. Is that the law school equivalent of a Hint from Heloise? Seriously? I think if it weren't so funny I'd be a bit insulted.

11/28/06 - Pursuant to UMich's online status checker, blessing to obsessive/compulsive law applicants everywhere, I've got a decision. I feel like the speed with which they decided is a good thing, but I've still got 10-14 days before I know yea or nay. Arggg.

11/20/06 - My application is officially complete at U Mich; still haven't heard a peep from NYU. Man, do I hate the waiting.

11/14/06-I'm a moron; I just realized that my cycle was still marked as 2005/2006. Whoops. So really, I'm in this cycle. I swear I deserve to go to law school, honest.

Kiki asked a good question, so please note that, since pretty much everybody and their mom thought it was a stupid idea, I opted not to apply to Columbia ED. :) Thanks y'all.

Also, there've been a few fee waivers in the mail of late (UMich, Illinois, Indiana in the last couple of weeks and Penn today), but I've pretty much decided that, if it isn't a T14, I'm not really interested. (God, I hope that doesn't make me a snobby bitch.) So it's possible that my app list could keep growing, but I really have no idea who's interested.

Oh, and two of my LORs still haven't made it to LSAC, so I'm not looking to go complete anywhere but NYU and possibly UMich anytime soon.

*****

I'm also an evacuee, so please feel free to factor in pity points to any acceptances I recieve.

No, not really. Not so much with the flame. Why do you ask?

Hey, I'm just curious, but why did you ED to CLS? You would have definitely gotten into HLS.

Re: Hi

Much of my family is from New Orleans and the surrounding area, but, due to my parents' work, I moved very frequently as a child. So, though my roots are there, I didn't live in New Orleans until I moved for college. After Newcomb I'd opted to remain in New Orleans, but there was a spot of inclement weather, so I had to move. Ermmm . . . is that what you wanted to know?

ED

At the last minute, I actually opted not to go ED at CLS. It's my number onw because I'm currently in New York, and moving annoys the crap out of me. As I'm extremely poor :), the only way I'm applying to schools outside of New York is if they waive the fee, hence the applications to UPenn and UMich. If HLS sends me a fee waiver, I'll certainly apply, but otherwise, that's November's grocery money.

I feel you

Totally understand about the money situation. I'm sure you would qualify for a need based waiver from HLS if you asked though!! Good luck with this cycle and I hope that you get into both CLS and NYU.

I haven't heard a word. I wouldn't worry though -- from what I've hearn on LSN they take a pretty long time. A lot of people have waited a month between submitting their app and getting a complete notice.

Standford

Oh yea, I got that same package from SLS and the BLSA. I don't think it was insulting--I think they just really want blk students to apply and get in (from what I've head, SLS loses the blk cross admit battle with HLS and YLS).

lol

Thanks girl, I needed that. Sigh...I wanna get IN somewhere. But I guess no news is better than a rejection...which I'm sure to get a few off! :-(

on the full Darrow!!!! That's awesome!

Congrats to you too!

That is such an exciting opportunity, especially for your top choice!!!! I think a large part of my law school decision depends on if my SO can find a good job and where we can relocate. BTW, I think Dean Zearfoss is awesome too! She's already sent me follow-up information on the programs I am interested in, and when she says "We'd love for you to come to Ann Arbor," you can hear that "love" is underlined by the tone of her voice. =) Good luck on your decision!

Sweet Darrow, yo

I think you definitely should have told Dean Zearfoss to Shut! Up! and also maybe to Get out! And pushed her over. Over the phone. Congratulations!

Yeah, ASW is gonna be a lot of fun! However, Columbia is gonna accept you soon, and since that is where I'm leaning right now, you should got there instead. Think of how much fun we'd have shopping in NYC!
