Not that I'm complaining, but why attend SMU for free over UT for free? Whats the rationale? Just curious! :)
No disrespect intended, but appropriate is completely irrelevant. This is your future you're talking about here, a minor inconvenience to the admission staff of a particular school is meaningless. You should do whats best for you in this deal, and that is UT. SMU is a lovely school (hey, I want to go there) but UT just opens more doors.
Knowing many Texas lawyers in biglaw, I know that doing really well at SMU will open just as many doors as will finishing in the middle of my class at UT. The question of appropriate withdrawal is not a simple one, I might add. This was not a school scholarship, but a foundation which I have many personal connections to now. I am also really fed up with the UT financial aid and admissions offices, and am excited to be at a school that has been extremely pleasant to deal with.
