Scholarship values are yearly amounts

---------------------------------------------------

1/24 -- Baylor online status checker changed to decision (letter to be mailed within 10 business days)

1/30 -- Received large white packet from Baylor with acceptance and small note from dean

2/8 -- Accepted at Depaul via phone call. I missed a call from the director of the IP program yesterday, called her back today, and finally spoke with her when she returned my call. She informed me of my acceptance, a very charming conversation. I'm impressed with Depaul.

2/12 -- Received complete notice via email from Cincinnati -- so, you can imagine my surprise when I also received an acceptance letter in the snail mail. Half-size envelope, no word on scholarships or financial aid.

2/21 -- Received large "Welcome to Temple" envelope with acceptance letter and scholarship offer.

2/22 -- Received phone call from Dean Aguilar notifying me of my admittance to the University of Utah -- then , when I got home I found the official acceptance letter in a regular sized white envelope.

2/23 -- Received scholarship from Cincinnati in a regular sized envelope. A lot of information about residency included.

3/2 -- Received an e-mail from a professor at Chicago-Kent. He said I will be receiving an acceptance letter soon.

3/5 -- Received waitlist letters from George Washington and George Mason. The only good thing I have to say is I still have not been rejected...

3/9 -- Received official acceptance letter from Chicago-Kent. Generous full-ride for first year and $20,000 for years 2 and 3. Definitely worth a look.

3/12 -- Received large envelope with official acceptance letter and full ride scholarship to UNLV. I applied to UNLV as "the safety of all safeties" and it took them so long to get back to me I almost forgot I had applied. The full ride helped me remember. Too bad they are not ranked higher.

3/14 -- E-mailed BYU regarding status and received a response telling me to wait until April 15th. Those Cougars....

3/18 -- Withdrew from mutliple schools today. Hard to pass on the money but I can't realistically see myself attending a lower ranked university simply for the money. Hopefully some other folks will receive admission to one of these schools soon.

3/27 -- Waitlisted at BYU via e-mail. I expected this because most acceptances came roughly a month ago. I will stay on and hope the Cougies change their mind.

4/12 -- Admitted student day email from Santa Clara explaining the "hard copy" (can you say IP school?) offering acceptance is in the mail and should arrive shortly. Unless they offer quite the outstanding scholarship I doubt I will attend.

4/13 -- Two weeks ago I asked Temple if they would increase my scholarship amount. Today I received an email increasing the amount from $12,000 per year to $15,000 per year. They also extended my seat deposit deadline from this Sunday to Friday April 20th.

4/16 -- Official Santa Clara acceptance letter arrived today. $14,000 scholarship, not sure if it is a one time award or renewable, looks to be one time.

4/23 -- To whom it may concern: I have not heard back from Penn. I will post their decision (likely a rejection) when I get it.

5/4 -- Penn rejection. Nice letter, but still a rejection.

5/5 -- To add insult to injury, I received my second rejection in a row today. This time I was taken off the BYU waitlist. The letter stated, I'm paraphrasing, "we have a limited number of seats and the number of people who have committed already exceeds that number." Oh well.

6-5 -- In response to a scholarship request I sent via letter to the University of Utah I received a scholarship letter today. The scholarship covers $2,500 of tuition and gives $2,500 for a laptop purchase. Now I just need to determine if I can accept the scholarship and still stay on the GW waitlist.

6-7 -- Turned in my seat deposit to the U yesterday. I will stay on the GW waitlist and if I'm accepted I may attend GW. However if I'm not accepted I'm happy and excited to attend the U.

8-16 -- Finally heard the "we will not admit anyone from our waitlist" from GW today. Hence, I will stay at the U. I quite like the U, it seems to be a stellar school.

Yeah, I'm doing IP law. I'm also aware that some of the schools I've applied to are possibly out of reach (ie, GW), but I figured I'd apply for the heck of it. Good luck on your apps.

I'm not sure if it's even complete...I haven't checked with them. I only assume it is because I finished my app on Dec. 9th and the report was sent out on the 11th. I should probably check with all of the schools who haven't contacted me just to make sure. As far as our chances, the 25th percentile is like 163 or 164 for GW, so I don't think I have the greatest chance. Sure, my GPA is good, but they only accepted about 1/3 of those with similar numbers last year.

email from Temple

Temple sent me an email saying they received my application and ordered my report. I am actually not sure if this means I'm complete, but it seemed that way from the email. If you didn't get an email, check your spam folder because the fee waiver I received from them was in mine. Good luck to you too.

well two things about Temple .. one they started reviewing my app. before all my letters came in..and I'm not 100% sure if they read all my LORs... secondly..I think they wanna keep their numbers low figuring I might not even add my name to the list...because in the letter it basically says if I write a a short essay saying how much I want to go to Temple it will help...so I assume that's their angle.. good luck though! and Depaul is about half tuition I believe..

Thanks

I'm surprised I heard from them as quickly as I did. They sent me an email and they're sending the official acceptance in the mail. Good luck to you and I hope you hear back from them soon.

I am out of state but under Ohio Law if my wife gets a full time job I get full in state tuition from the first year. So combining that with a 10K scholarship means I pay about 9K in tutition at Cincinnati.

Any thoughts on our chances for GW (we are pretty much numbers twins). Did you apply FT or PT? It looks like a few 162 people have already gotten in, hopefully we can be as lucky!

Same thing happened to me. Received acceptance in the mail on Saturday and an e-mail today from Admissions notifying me that my application is complete...

Hi, Sorry for the late response to your note. I applied to GW part time and got in with my numbers. I expected to get in. Its also my undergrad university and my recommendations were very good. Full time, I was told, would have been unlikely with my numbers.

Hey, thanks. I know that it has certainly been a long time for them. I think that a lot of people can start to expect some action now, because their final day for receiving applications was yesterday. Best of luck to you.

Don't be fooled!
Wednesday, February 07 2007 at 07:00 PM

Don't be fooled by rankings. Kent is RANKED as a T-100 school, but the quality of an education you get there outright SUCKS. You'd get a much better one at UNLV. Heck, you can get a better education at Thomas Cooley than you can at Kent. Kent is an outright crappy school that is way overrated and just wants students to fail out. Their professors pick and choose who they want to pass and fail through things such as "participation" which they claim can improve your grade if you participate, when in reality, they only use that to "bump up grades" for their favorite students. So if you're a favorite, then you'll do just fine. If you're not, then kiss any reasonable opportunities goodbye. I would avoid Kent like the plague. I attend there now and can't wait to transfer out. At least I'll get decent, non-biased education elsewhere with REAL grades that I've earned, not have my grades based upon someone else's performance. If you're not an English major, you're not going to do well there, either.

Dont pay much attention to the previous post. The girl should blame herself for bad grades, but not Chicago-Kent. You can visit my page and see what she wrote about John Marshall Law School. It seems to me that the problem is not with quality of education at Kent, but inability of one particular person to go through the difficulties of 1L.

Wow. As for patten, congrats on narrowing down your list. Best of luck.

Everyone is entitled...
Wednesday, February 07 2007 at 07:00 PM

Actually, all I am doing is offering information. I am not the only person at Kent who feels this way. And as I have stated in other posts, they are in the midst of different lawsuits. Are reasonable schools involved in lawsuits? Perhaps. But Kent is quite overrated and all I was doing was offering an opinion. Although the lawsuit is a FACT, not an opinion. I'm not trying to turn anyone off from Kent, but one of the best ways to get to know a law school is to talk to other students from that law school. There are other students at Kent who feel the exact same way I do. And by the way, those of you who state that my grades are simply due to other problems, some of you have no business talking. I don't see some of you with two Bachelor's and a Master's Degree and the levels of Community Service I have. So you probably got lucky on one test. Fine. But there is no reason to state not to pay attention, because everyone is entitled to an opinion. Whether you like it or not. As far as your post to me patten, I am not trying to "turn anyone off" from Kent. I only share my experiences and offered an opinion. I could go through several examples, but was only offering an opinion. If you want to discuss this further, then you can feel free to e-mail me.

Yeah...
Sunday, October 01 2006 at 08:00 PM

I kind of hinted in my personal statement that I would attend there if they accepted me, though I tried to tailor each personal statement for each application to that effect. I'm certainly glad I got accepted to BYU, b/c I've only heard bad news from the other top 40 schools I applied to. BYU was always my #1 choice, though.

Not a problem
Wednesday, February 07 2007 at 07:00 PM

I just wanted to add that you didn't offend me with your post at all. I was simply trying to respond to other postings as well as your own. Because these people who have posted negative comments about me don't even know me and they obviously either don't know how to read or don't have the background information to make a knowledgeable decision. Like I said, you can feel free to contact me in the future if you would like any other information I have based upon personal experiences. But I am not offended by talking about my experiences. My experiences, along with my opinions, are simply designed to provide information. At least I don't cuss or use this website and discussion group inappropriately like some people. Whatever happens, I wish you the best of luck as well. Take care.

Yeah, I'm getting a little impatient with them, especially since I applied in early December and I live right down the road from them. I don't know what to think, I know they've been sending out rejections, so it's not looking great.

I hope to get into BYU but I am not betting on it. You have better odds with a higher LSAT and GPA along with your engineering background.

I applied at end of october, and went complete ~1 month later, and got deferred at month after that, and just recently pushed to the waitlist (as i am most places). I still don't think i'll get in, if you look at everyone else's scores they waitlisted and they are a small class

Sorry it took so long to answer. The scholarship offer was postmarked April 17. I didn't write them asking for money, it just came. I have not yet received a financial aid package.

I sure hope it means they're deliberating on our apps and not just too busy to send out our rejections! They are only half way through their rejections though, last year they rejected 137, and this year they're only up to 55 so far. They did reject the most people in April, but it looks like they'll have to move that to May this year. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but at this point I'd be pleasantly surprised with a waitlist. Good luck to us!

Wait listed and then rejected at BYU? How did you hear? What did they say? Why did they reject you so early in the wait list cycle? Please provide all the info you can. Thanks!

I didn't ask for the scholarship it just came, it is called a technology Merit Scholarship. I had asked for an extension on my seat deposit and they gave it to me, then a week later the scholarship came and I was told I had to send in my seat deposit right away to accept the scholarship. I think asking for the extension helped, because your numbers are a little bit better than mine. Did you already send in a seat deposit?

That is good you got a scholarship to the U. I am not sure if you can stay a wait list but I would think you could. I would call and ask just to be sure.

My opinion
Monday, October 23 2006 at 08:00 PM

I don't see anything wrong with accepting the scholarship from the U and remaining on GW's wait list. You need to do what is best for you. Even if you back out in July they still can give the scholarship to another student. If I still had a spot on the BYU wait list I would remain on the list and send the U my money.
