I was very sick during college. A year after graduating I was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. Amazing how much easier academics are without that tumor interfering! I generally scorn addenda (excuses for poor past performance read exactly as such), but I thought that this one merited a mention.

addenda

congrats on the acceptances and some GREAT WL...good luck on those. I think it's sorta lame to say you generally "scorn" addenda tho...it's almost like you're apologizing for writing one, and then writing one anyways....it's also sorta like saying "everybody else has lame reasons for low GPAs, but mine is a really good reason"...just some thoughts..really congrats though...especially if you get into any of those waitlists...those would be incredible acceptances.

point well taken

Yeah, I see what you mean about the addenda comment. Not how I intended it, but that's the trouble with e-communication. And thanks all for the well-wishes. Just got the Northwestern acceptance which was a pleasant surprise.

Northwestern

Congratulations! May I also inquire: How did Northwestern let you know that you got off their WL? Did you interview and then find out? It's a gorgeous school.

The dean of admissions sent an email this afternoon - total surprise!

top choice?

Are you leaning toward Michigan or Northwestern? Congrats on both!

Thanks!

To be honest, I'm not sure. I don't believe that the rankings difference is significant enough to automatically pick Michigan, but I haven't visited either. I got a bit of a heads-up that Michigan might be a go, so I scheduled a trip to visit both schools next week. We'll see!

Cardozo threw me a curveball yesterday - when I sent my withdrawal note, the dean of admissions countered by upping my scholarship offer to full tuition plus $10,000 per annum living stipend! I'm torn. I really have my heart set on Michigan, but that's a lot of money to play fast and loose with. More decisions ahead...

If you want to work in NYC you'd be insane to not take cardozo's offer. Graduate toward the top of the class and you will be welcome at any NYC firm. Also if the reported median salary is accurate you will be a happy camper. What a tough decision. I know the pull of the top 14 is intense. Good luck, Liz

Thanks for the comment and congrats to you as well. Enjoy Ann Arbor... I only hear good things about it (the city as well as the school, of course)!

Where were you an organizer? I've become really involved with union efforts (WGAw) in my field and am definitely starting to become a bit of a labor nerd. :)

thanks!

so much for your good wishes! I also put in an addendum re my grades - I had a misdiagnosed disease which is finally under control - congrats on NWU and UMich off WL - did you send in COLs?

SEIU
Saturday, January 06 2007 at 07:00 PM

Yay, SEIU! Almost everyone I know in organizing has worked for them at some point. Right now I'm more interested in the IP side of things than the labor side, but I haven't ruled it out.

Hi Jolie, I need Advice for law school
Sunday, April 13 2008 at 08:00 PM

Hello, I read your posts on Law school Discussion and saw that you wrote several schools LOCI and I was wondering what kind of information you wrote in them. I am currently on the waitlist to UCLA and have written a LOCI and I am still on the waitlist. I am admittedly desperate to get into UCLA. I am willing to do anything. I could use any bit of information that you could provide for me and if you had a copy of your LOCI that would also be great! Anything will help me at this time. Thank you soooooooooooo much! I look forward to hearing from you!!! Lisa

congrats!
