I think you can easily cut BC off that list. No love for Durham, NC?
It's just a preliminary list right now, so I'm not really sure which schools I prefer over others. The US News rankings seemed like a good starting point. And if it stays that way, who cares?
Word about BU, man. I don't have that many backups, so I don't really wan't to cut them off of my list, but damn, I really do not want to have to write a special essay just for them. Plus a Dean's Certificate! Seriously, who do they think they are? BC? That is all. Just wanted to support your decision.
Thank you for the post. You bring up several interesting points, which I will adress sequentially. --I'm with you on Berkely. USC and UCLA are there to fulfill the "Cali schools with attractive women" quota. --I disagree about these all being potential reaches. In fact, a few are below the safety line (see: GW). --Here's the thing about specialties: I'm not sure precisely which kind of law I want to specialize in, but I'm pretty sure that it's the big city corporate stuff that the top school specialize in. There's a reason that the elite schools are also the top ones for placement in top firms, starting salary, etc. --Many lawyers are unhappy because they don't have their shit together and have false expectations. I know exactly what I'm in for and await the demanding nature of big time law. --Again, thank you for the comment. Just out of curiosity, why did you choose me out of all the people on here to share these thoughts with?
I think I'm still holding on to BU and Hastings because I have many friends and family in those cities, but I think that may be a foolhardy reason. I know it makes me lazy, but I'm really turned off by having to write the "Why Penn?" essay (and from what I hear, it matters a lot). It's probably more worthwhile than BU, however, so I'll have to think about it. I think I am going to send off my top choices/places that don't require extra essays and then see how motivated I am to add to my list. Good luck to you, though. I'm sure you'll do great (requisit cheerleader remark, but obviously you will).
I am sure this cycle holds awsome things for you!
Thanks for the congrats. I'll be back to congratulate you after the HYS sweep:)
It does. Law School Survivor also rocks; you should make a show. It could be pretty dramatic. Overall your application for law school rocks. Congratulations on the acceptance already. So far I've had no applications go complete... how did you find out when your app was complete at Gtown? I applied through their website and it isn't telling me a thing.
how'd the phone thing go? i thought mine went well but was pretty short...
I'm now complete at both UVa and Gtown. Now I'm moving into the "I will cry if I get rejected" stage. Oh what fun applying to law school is! Oh, and yes, what is the deal with this Harvard "phone chat" thing? Sounds scary.
on your Duke acceptance and Harvard phone chat! Do you feel lucky? Do you? :-D
You're funny!
I thought azn was considered URM because we are minorities and underrepresented in the legal profession? No? OH, and I was born in 1985, so I actually co-founded my club upon exit from the womb. :)
Congrats I mean! Esp. when Duke is only the first acceptance to come :) And seriously, I have no motivation to work whatsoever, esp. in class, haha. Anyway, good luck with the rest of the cycle, not like you'll be needing it!
Congrats on Boalt, that is pretty cool. Way to go! I'm getting antsy waiting for my decisions. But then you submitted your aps a good few weeks before I did...
Awesome! Congrats! HARVARD!
see you at admitt days!
awsome cycle, see you at Harvard ASW?
Thanks man. I got the email in class. Still think it's weird that you haven't heard from g'town, but who cares when you're into Harvard, right? Let's keep it going.
congrat on HLS and other admissions...any lesson learned from this cycle
"Many lawyers are unhappy because they don't have their shit together and have false expectations." care to share how you came to this conclusion? i actually believe it's the exact opposite. lots of lawyers in "big time law" (as you termed it), including many whom i work with currently, had realistic expectations and noble aspirations. "big time law" itself and the practice thereof as an associate, is the sole reason that they are unhappy. i find it amusing when graduating seniors (as you clearly are) are so completely entranced by the "big city corporate stuff". That's what interests you in law? The future promise of reviewing 15,000 pages of merger agreements? Or is it just the salary and chance to think you're hot shit? You should go to b-school, my friend.
hey what was the process and how long did you study for the lsat? how do you get fee waivers? thanks
Life would be much easier if Yale would just fall in line and listen to me! Sucks for them that they rejected you though, but whatever, it just means HLS is that much better! :)
harvard v.s,. stanford v.s. columbia & hamilton v.s. berkeley full ride v.s. NYU & full ride RTK sadly, harvard and stanford aren't faring too well. show me the money!
Speaking of Hamilton's, while the whole faculty mentorship thing is nice and all, what should really sell you on a full ride at CLS are all the Hamilton Deli paninis you'll be able to buy with the money you've saved!
i've considered it extensively and i would still probably choose one of the lower ranked schools over almost any possible reach school
