Additional info & updates

I half-heartedly applied to law school at the end of my senior year, mostly to satisfy parents. Seeing as my numbers were not that great and I applied pretty late in the game, I received less than stellar results and decided to take some time off from school. I'm back at it again now and planning to retake the LSAT in February. I have sent all my applications in already-- the only one which is not yet complete is Howard, pending their acknowledgement of that darn verification letter which I faxed in today. In the interest of trying to take the process much more seriously this time around, I'm planning on retaking the LSAT in February. My only hope is that this will not be too late. If anyone has insight on this I would appreciate your feedback. Good luck everyone!

Just got a fee waiver in my email for Villanova. I know I would not want to go move to Pennsylvania, so I'm not sure if I should use it...also considering applying to UMiami even thought they refused my request for a fee waiver.. blast.

Just got another fee waiver from Boston University :)

Washington and Lee just e-mailed informing that a decision would be made today. Vamos a ver..

Just received word from Washington and Lee... Waitlisted... Not terribly broken-hearted about the decision. I wasn't particularly eager to attend W&L. Beyond that, I'm happy to find that admissions committee's are looking past my low numbers and see me as a viable candidate for law school. I'm sure that upon improvement of my LSAT Score in February, I should receive much more favorable responses. So, all things considered, I would mark this as a good start :)

Since my last post, I did end up receiving a fee waiver from UMiami (via e-mail request), and today got word that my application has been held for further review..meh

I was quite aware this might be the case with my applications; I don't anticipate many outright rejections, as I have some amazing soft factors which qualify me as a stellar candidate for law school, but, as I have previously stated, I never took the LSAT seriously. I have always been a great standardized test taker, so when the LSAT came around, I thought I would just take it and be done with it. Nope.. it seems I will actually have to study for this one...It's frustrating because I know that once I get this LSAT in check, I can get into any school I want. I'm sure that's true for most of us. I suppose it just depends how badly you want it...

Heard from George Washington University today-- held for regular admission review..grrr

Hey! Thanks for the comment. I know you have a few questions so hopefully this will help. I currently attend Spelman College. I've only taken the LSAT once so far, which was this past October. After speaking with admission directors at the big schools they recommended I take it again and shoot for at least a 160 to make me more competitive. So, I will be taking the December LSAT. Another thing they told me is to apply even if my numbers aren't at the school average. (You know minorities get the boost for admission). Wishing you the best of luck in your cycle though! Let me know if I can help in anyway :)

Fee Waivers
Saturday, October 30 2010 at 08:00 PM

Btw, I forgot to mention that I obtained many of my fee waivers by contacting the schools directly. I requested an application for a fee waiver, and haven't been rejected to any of them yet. I didn't qualify for the LSAC one, but these schools look at your financial aid package that you receive from your school...so it's easier to get them approved.

Thank you. I wish you luck with your applications. University of Miami should give you a quick response.

Law School Predictor (LSP)
Tuesday, November 02 2010 at 08:00 PM

I have used quite a few websites there is also chiashu.com and hourumd.com. The LSP weblink is below. www.lawschoolpredictor.com/wp-content/uploads/Law-School-Predictor-Full-Time-Programs.htm

Hey

UM NEVER emailed me as to when I went complete which explains why I leave that part in LSN blank.Their "status checker" doesn't help either; I would suggest you call them and see. Good luck with your cycle!

Thanks and Study Tip
Monday, March 08 2010 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for being the first person to post on my LSN wall and the kind words. My best study tip is to simulate as many of the actual LSAT exams as possible under the real test conditions. I ordered the three actual LSAT testbooks from the LSAC website, which was 30 exams, and then separately brought an additional ten of the most recently administered exams from Amazon. I thought simulating the exam forty times made me both calm and confident on the day of the actual LSAT (Oct 2010), and I was able to obtain a score that was comparable to my practice tests. I wish you the best of luck on the Feb 2011 LSAT and your admissions cycle.

Weighted Grading
Thursday, September 30 2010 at 08:00 PM

The idea, which I haven't confirmed, is that because we're from a Tier 1 school with supposedly more rigorous academics, our GPA is weighted so as to make it easier to compare to other (lesser) schools. I don't know if it's true or not. Definitely not something I'd hang my hat on but it's nice to hear when your nerves are frazzled.

Haha, yeah in hindsight 40 simulated tests might have been excessive. To answer your question though, I only took the LSAT once. Also, I just wanted to say to stay positive about the W&L waitlist. From what I can tell by your extracurriculars, you have some unique life experiences that will definitely yield some acceptances in the near future :)

thank you

Yeah, they told me to check the MyUM account and the acceptance letter was my welcome screen.

Thank you!

Good Luck!

Thanks for your comment! I wish you the best of luck on your LSAT in Feb. Find a way to download all the PTs you can find (via torrents), buy a LR or LG Bible and just focus on the exam for a couple months. I'm certain you will do well. Congrats on Umiami!

I first found out via status checker and then snail mail about a week later.

Schools
Thursday, September 30 2010 at 08:00 PM

It depended on the schools. Some called. Others only notified me by snail mail. The rest I had to check the status checker or was notified by email. It all depends on how the particular school works. Hope all is well with you.

CLEO
Wednesday, August 11 2010 at 08:00 PM

I don't know much more about CLEO other than the info that they provide. However, it comes highly recommended from a tribal attorney I know in preparing students for law school. I've been out of school for 2+ years and am looking for any advantage I can find to help me succeed. Hit up the CLEO website, if you haven't already, and check out the URM forum at top-law-schools.com for other opinions. Good Luck!

Congratulations on getting into Hofstra. Must feel good to get that first acceptance out of the way :)

Monday, March 08 2010 at 07:00 PM

Thanks for the kind words. I am very pleased and grateful to God for my cycle thus far. Financial aid will definitely be a factor to consider, so I'm not quite sure where I will end up at this time. I see you have another acceptance and a scholarship, congrats. How's studying for the February LSAT coming along?
