Additional info & updates

6/2/09: Still waiting on UMKC waitlist and North Dakota to make a decision, these are the two in front for me right now.

5/4/09: Waitlisted at Ohio Northern via email

5/1/09: Officially waitlisted at Creighton. I was actually on hold instead of waitlested but received a letter in the mail on Friday stating that I was waitlisted and that they admit students from the list up until the first day of classes in August.

4/26/09: Visited Valpo for the first time on Friday and I was impressed! The people were all great, the professors seemed to really care for their students, and the clinic possibilities seemed pretty decent as well. I have a lot to think about as I let the process finish...

4/25/09: I put waitlist down for South Dakota as I was not granted full admission to the law school class but was offered admission to their summer law screening program. I will not be accepting that offer as it cost $1,000 for five weeks, the most that can make it in to the law school are the top ten as long as they have over a 70 in both courses offered.

4/19/09: Finally a decision from Washburn and it was what I expected. I must say I am pretty let down by it considering some of the other numbers I've seen on here. I will continue to let this process play out.

4/16/09: First news in almost over a month, I was rejected via a short letter by NCCU today. I figured I had a good chance of being accepted there based on raw numbers, oh well I suppose. I have also decided to withdraw from OCU and UDM. However, I am going to let the process continue to play out as I still am waiting to hear from some major players in my process. I will also be visiting Valparaiso next week, so I will post my thoughts on here after that!

3/19/09: Received an email from UMKC telling me that I was officially waitlisted. This is actually a surprise to me as I was expecting to be rejected from UMKC from the start. It's a great law school and has a lot of programs I like. I am considering writing a LOCI to the school.

I do wish the schools would get their decisions out as some schools are requiring a deposit by April 1st.

3/13/09: Received an admissions packet from UDM that notified me of being accepted for the incoming day class. This has been the first news I've had in weeks and hopefully it starts a new string of good news since the time to decide is narrowing.

I also decided to withdraw from Cooley Law as I will not be attending there in the fall based upon my current offers for admission. While I only have five offers at this point, I figured it was fair to notify Cooley so they can offer my spot to somebody else.

3/8/09: I figured I would give a short update. I have heard nothing in over two weeks, part of me is wondering why some schools are taking this long. Is it good or bad? I have thought about giving some schools a call tomorrow. Any thoughts? I did send a letter to UND explaining why I want to attend law school there and what specific things attract me to the School of Law there. So we will see what happens...

2/23/09:Received a letter from North Dakota saying that my application had been reviewed and no final decision could be made. It said a final decision would be reached by May 15th. Not really what I would call a waitlist, but it was really the only category that fit. The letter went on to say the admissions committee recommended that I re-take the LSAT which tells me the LSAT is my main downfall. However, the next LSAT is not until June so re-taking for this cycle isn't really an option. This letter really bums me out as I am big fan of North Dakota and it was in my top five from the start. Any advice?

2/17/09: Received a letter from Wayne State today stating that after review they are unable to offer me admission in the 2009 first year class. It was pretty straight and to the point.

2/15/09: Received an email from Florida Coastal on the 14th stating that I had been accepted and that my packet would be mailed out on Tuesday.

2/12/09: Received an email from OCU saying that I had been approved for admission to the law school. It said that a letter confirming my admission would be on the way via mail.

2/11/09: Received a call today from Valparaiso to tell me that I had been accepted to the Fall 2009 entering class. This is a huge acceptance for me! The lady from Valparaiso was very nice and courteous. She congratulated me and let me know that my admissions packet would be on the way.

2/8/09: Received a letter from Creighton saying that my application has been reviewed and they have decided to place my file on hold. I am not sure if this is the same as being waitlisted or now? It says it will undergo a second review by the admission committee and a final decision may be reached in April or May. So I am wondering what I should do? Creighton is really high on my list with a few others, so getting accepted here would be huge.

2/5/09: Accepted at Cooley Law via huge packet in the mail. I was granted a 25% scholarship which equals to around $7,100 during the year if their tuition costs stay the same. I am hopeful I will hear more good news in the coming weeks.

2/3/09: I received my first rejection letter today from Tulsa. It was a very kind but short and to the point letter. I knew this process from the start was going to be a long-hard road. I am hopeful there will be some good news in the near future.

So I scored a 148 on my LSAT, I am not sure how I feel about this? I am going to complete my applications and see who, if where accepts me. I will then make a decision based on this if I should attend law school in the Fall of 2009 or re-take the LSAT and try to get a higher score!

I think I am better student than a 148 LSAT score would make one think!

I have also come to terms that some of the schools on my list such as UMKC (which was my #1) are now somewhat of a longshot as far as getting accepting goes. However, I can't give up and refuse to giveup on this application cycle for them. I have come too far. So I will apply and see what happens!

Any help, comments, etc...is encouraged!!

I am a big fan of the innocence project, read the book Actual Innocence, it's a GREAT-FAST read!

Hello, yes, we do have some similar schools! Good luck on your applications as well, and good luck on the LSAT. I don't ever want to take that test again! If you have trouble with standardized tests like I did, then an LSAT prep course is helpful. I would recommend TestMasters if they have it in your state. I personally did not like my experience with Kaplan. TestMasters digs really deep into the test and gives you a lot more practice than Kaplan's books do. Good luck!

I know how you feel about the LSAT...I hate it...I feel as if it is by far the weakest part of my application....other than that I find the process to be very exciting lol...however that may change as the decisions start to roll in!

Tuesday, January 06 2009 at 07:00 PM

I applied to KU in Kansas. I have a family and limited to where I can go.

Tuesday, January 06 2009 at 07:00 PM

I considered Washburn, but it is just too far from where I live. It would be almost a 2 hour commute. I think I would get in there, but I just wouldn't be able to do it with my family.

Monday, August 11 2008 at 08:00 PM

I am checking the mailbox every day, do you think it is a good thing to not have heard anything yet? At least I haven't gotten any rejections yet, I guess. Your score is better than mine, you will definitely get accepted somewhere! Have you started filling out the FAFSA yet?

Hi there
Monday, December 01 2008 at 07:00 PM

I will practice in the criminal law field. I am thinking defense. However, I do want to keep my options open in law school. I will go in there with an open mind. How about yourself? What law do you want to practice?

By the bye, Actual Innocence is a great read. I wish you the best of luck in this stressful process. I like your additions to this cycle.

well right now that would be my last option...I reallly just want to wait to hear from some other schools first...how is your application process going thus far?

Monday, August 11 2008 at 08:00 PM

You have some good schools here. I have no doubt that you will get into a significant majority of these schools, based on numbers alone! I am jealous of your 148, even though it is only 3 points higher, it does give you a significant advantage. And your GPA is great! Good luck!

Good luck

Just wanted to wish you the best this cycle...stay positive!!

Choices
Tuesday, July 08 2008 at 08:00 PM

Of the schools I have already been accepted to, St. Thomas and Nebraska are frontrunners, but of course I am still holding out for some of my others...hopefully we hear good things soon!

Good luck to you too!
Wednesday, December 31 2008 at 07:00 PM

Have a great cycle.Maybe we'll end up at the same school!

Wednesday, December 31 2008 at 07:00 PM

Howard is my first choice, but NCC is looking pretty good for the cost, location, etc. too!

Friday, October 24 2008 at 08:00 PM

Thank you! Good luck to you as well! Hopefully we'll start hearing acceptances soon :)

Thanks!
Thursday, August 14 2008 at 08:00 PM

Thanks for the good wishes and good luck to you as well! I hope you start hearing soon. This process has been nothing short of torturous for me. haha. What is your top choice?

Monday, August 18 2008 at 08:00 PM

thanks u 2!

Valpo Applicant status

Yeah, mine worked fine. That is weird that it is not coming up. Sorry to see your rejection. You'll get some good news before too long.

Good Luck
Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

Good luck w/UMKC & Washburn. Waiting is the worst.

Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

Well, like you said, you never know. Anything's possible. You can never figure out what is going through these admission people's heads! I think it would be awesome to go to ND or SD just because it's so dang cheap! I love it!

Dakotas
Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

I'm not considering the Dakotas just because I need to stay in Missouri. My husband just got a new job that he absolutely loves and I couldn't ask him to pack up and move so I could go to school. And I'm not really too sure about moving away from him for 3 years, so I'm just trying for UMKC. Then Washburn as a backup. Hopefully one of those two will come through for me so I don't have to move.

Thursday, October 02 2008 at 08:00 PM

Thank you! Congrats on your acceptances :)

Congrats!
Monday, August 11 2008 at 08:00 PM

Congrats on your acceptances so far, those are great schools!

Wednesday, October 01 2008 at 08:00 PM

I'm trying to, but it's so tough. I knew I was going to have a rough time, but it's starting to really get to me now. What's your top choice? Mine is Temple with Duquesne at a very close second.

Congrats
Sunday, October 12 2008 at 08:00 PM

on FL Coastal, Valpo. and OK City...what is your top choice out of those 3?

Wayne State
Sunday, January 18 2009 at 07:00 PM

I just got deferred. I think that's like waitlisted, right?

Congrats on Valparaiso!
Monday, December 01 2008 at 07:00 PM

Thank you for the congrats. Go Vandals and go Crusaders! We will keep in touch.

Washburn
Sunday, January 04 2009 at 07:00 PM

Yeah. I was a little surprised myself. Bummer. Good luck to you, you never know who they're going to choose. Some people w/145 LSATs and lower GPAs than us have gotten accepted.

Congrats!
Monday, August 11 2008 at 08:00 PM

I hope my luck turns out to be as good as yours. You have some good acceptances! Congrats! I am trying to figure out how to get off of the waitlists that I am on, especially for Valparaiso.

Thursday, October 02 2008 at 08:00 PM

I have no idea. I'm equally unimpressed with all my current choices. What about you?

OCU
Monday, August 11 2008 at 08:00 PM

They said they were going to review my file a second time later this month.

hey my friend
Monday, December 01 2008 at 07:00 PM

I concur with you. Valpo is the best school on your list. We are both waiting for a lot more schools here. It is making me quite nervous. What about you? At this point, I am leaning toward Idaho over Cleveland. What are your thoughts?

good to hear from you
Monday, December 01 2008 at 07:00 PM

I completely concur with you. The LCOP program itself is about 5,000 dollars. They do not offer financial aid for this program. They urged students to go to Citibank. I think not. At this point, Idaho is my best bet. I think that Valpo is your best bet. There are many Valpo grads in Indiana. I was waitlisted at Valpo. Again, nicely done my friend.

UDM!!!!!!!!!!
Monday, December 01 2008 at 07:00 PM

Nicely done on UDM my friend. Are you considering it?

Thursday, October 02 2008 at 08:00 PM

I haven't heard much about Valparaiso. What makes you choose it over Florida Coastal? Since they're both T4, I was leaning toward Florida for nice weather, if nothing else :)

Creighton
Sunday, March 15 2009 at 08:00 PM

I noticed that you were placed on hold at Creighton. I also achieved this status...but I was wondering if you have heard anything from them at all?? It is one of my top choices along with Washburn. By the way, good luck with Washburn...you will get a call if you get in

Criminal Justice
Tuesday, January 06 2009 at 07:00 PM

Do you think our degree has hurt us in the law school admission process? I think it is killing me. I can't believe that a degree that teaches the bowels of the legal system doesn't carry any weight with law schools.

Valpo
Monday, October 20 2008 at 08:00 PM

I haven't officially visited yet, I have been on campus though. I'm going to the admitted students day this Thurs & Friday.

Valpo
Monday, October 20 2008 at 08:00 PM

Hey... I really liked Valpo, too. Even before being rejected from "better" schools, I had a feeling I'd end up there. Everyone seems really nice and welcoming. Although I've always pictured myself in Chicago for law school, I think Valpo was the right choice for me. Have you made your decision yet?

hey there
Monday, December 01 2008 at 07:00 PM

I was accepted to Dayton as well. Congrats on the acceptance. Where are you thinking of going?
