Additional info & updates

***All Scholarship money is a three year total***

01/10/09 -
I got a late start on sending out my applications. My LSAT score was not what I wanted, however, I am not going to let it get in the way. I spent a lot of time on my personal statement and focused on my professional accomplishments. I wish you all luck and I will keep you all up to date.

01/12/09 -
Its official, I am going to Law School. Today, I was accepted into Nova Southeastern University. While Nova is not my first school, I'm excited and thankful to have been granted admission there. Since as of now I am batting a thousand, I hope to have similar results with the rest of my applications. Notification came by e-mail that a decision had been made and I used the Decision Manager to actually view the acceptance letter. The online decision manager was a quick and efficient way to be notified, however, it somewhat takes away from the awkward and painful, yet fun, frustration of opening a letter received by the mail man. O well. I have not heard anything about money... I hope they decide to give me some... I will keep you all posted and I hope this helps someone.

01/15/09 -
Today, via the US Postal Service, I received an acceptance letter from Faulkner. I am not sure why LSN does not list Faulkner but that is of little concern to me. Once again not my top choice, however, I am still batting a thousand and hope to ride my wave of success into a top Law School. I maintain my gratitude to Faulkner for my acceptance and will consider them once I get more information on Scholarships and such. I wish you all the best.

01/17/09 -
Hum... I received an e-mail from Florida Coastal School of Law offering both admission and a $ 7,000 annual scholarship. Wow... or hum... yeah... While I do appreciate the offer, I am somewhat confused since I never applied. Either, the law school really thinks I am worth their trouble, or...maybe, just maybe they are that desperate. I am going to call them this weekend (because he said to do so in the e-mail) and see what the deal really is. Since I already have acceptance from both Nova and Faulkner with many more decisions to come, I am not really that interested in going to Florida Coastal at this time. (Who knows maybe they will offer 100% tuition if I haggle a little.) I will keep you posted. Let me know what you think.

01/21/09 -
Via E-mail, I received an acceptance notification from Ave Maria. Thankfully, I was awarded a $10,000 annual scholarship. The scholarship definitely puts them at the top of my list of schools that have already accepted me. The e-mail says that a formal letter and other pertinent information will come via snail mail early next week. Hope this helps.

01/23/09 -
I was waitlisted at the University of Miami. Not excited about that, however, I am still awaiting many more schools to reply. I am fully aware that my scores are not the greatest, so I was relieved to not get rejected right out. Of all the schools that have responded so far, UM would have been my first choice. So for now, until I get responses from my top choices, like W&L and Richmond, I will not withdraw my application. Rather, on Monday, I will send UM a thank you letter and let them know I am still interested. When and if I am admitted to one of my higher school choices I will immediately withdraw the application so as to make room for others. As for schools that I have already been accepted to; I am going to withdraw my application from Faulkner and am waiting to see if Nova will offer me a scholarship. So basically, for now, Ave Maria is the front runner. Hopefully some of this was useful, good luck, and God bless.

01/29/09 -
Today, I was accepted at Campbell via their online status checker. I'm pretty excited about that. It may be helpful to note that, I attended and graduated from Campbell University with a B.S. I called them and they notified me that a package was in the mail and that it would include all information regarding merit scholarships (if any) and other pertinent information.

01/30/09 -
Today, Faulkner notified me that they will grant me 66% tuition forgiveness per year. This, of course, is stipulated by some modest academic requirements that I must meet in my 2nd and 3rd year. The total award over three years is a little more than 56K, so, I will ponder it for the time being. I had written them off, however, in light of their generous offer, I will keep them on the table for now.

02/04/09 -
Today was a good day. I received an acceptance letter from FIU. As of now, based on my early assessments, this is indeed the best choice for me. I come to this conclusion considering; FIU for me, means instate tuition; Secondly, the school was placed in the third tier faster than any other school (I know they are not there anymore, but they are new.). So in short, based on money and the potential for the school to become more recognized they are in the lead. What does this mean overall? It means that I will most likely withdraw from Faulkner, Ave Maria, and Nova by the end of the week, barring some extraordinary circumstances and any lucrative finical circumstances that I am not currently aware of. Since all of them, save Faulkner are comparable by ranking, it is, currently, all about the money.

02/17/09 -
Hit hard today: DEPAUL, via small envelope, rejected me. I acknowledge that this was a long shot given my numbers, however, still, I am disappointed.

02/26/09 -
The Punches keep coming. Predictably, I was rejected from Boston College today. I had anticipated this, however, rejection stings; regardless of how prepared you are for it. O well, still more to go. Hopefully one of my top schools will accept me. Otherwise, it looks like it%u2019s FIU for me. This is not neccasarilly a bad thing. I am very grateful, and happy with their acceptance. I will keep you posted.

03/07/09 -
So it appears that I have joined an elite group of waitlist recipients at Washington and Lee! Hum... I don't know what to think about it, I guess it is better than being rejected. However, given that over the past two days many and I mean many, people have been given the same notification. I guess my fate relies on people wanting to go to T14 and them schools getting accepted to those schools.

03/19/09
Rejected at LSU; I was not expecting that. I figured I would at least get a waitlist. O well. On a lighter note, Campbell offered me a 15K annual scholarship. The good thing is that the Scholarship makes the tuition comparable to FIU, however, on the flipside of things, they are now making the decision harder. Any advice?

Thats pretty funny. I don't think I have ever heard of anyone getting accepted without applying. I am still waiting for my decision as they told me Its in the mail. If you can get more money I would definetely consider it over Nova.

I called and it's for real. I will give it some thought this week and I will let you know what i do.

I was just looking at schools and people that apply to them and I saw we had similar numbers and a few similar schools. I also received the same email from Coastal. I just thought it was kinda funny. Did you get put on a waitlist or a hold list at Miami? Good luck with the rest of your apps.

Faulkner

Hi there, and congrats so far on your cycle! Just an FYI: Faulkner is listed as Jones Law School on LSN. This is peculiar since Samford is referred to as Samford and not Cumberland, but nonetheless, I thought this info might be helpful. Good luck!

I think....

I received the same letter. I called the admissions office and asked them what the letter meant, and I was told the following: 25% of applicants are turned down at this point 25% of applicants are accepted 50% are put on hold for further review. The lady I spoke to (very nice lady) told me that the main difference between hold and waitlist is, the waitlist people will not hear from the University until June-ish, when the class is basically finalized, but hold students will heard in April when all of the applications are turned in. So I guess (if I heard right) it is better to be put on hold, because: Hold hears back when everyone has been excepted and Waitlist hears back when everyone has decided if they are attending or not. I am not sure if what I wrote made sense. I tried to re-read it but it is still a bit confusing. If you have any questions let me know. Best of luck to you!

Ave Maria
Wednesday, December 03 2008 at 07:00 PM

Like I said in my earlier posting, so far, when I consider all factors, Ave Maria is the front. 1st, they are only 45 minutes from where I currently live. 2nd, they have offered me a fair scholarship. And 3rd, I like conservative schools. That said, however, I will withdraw from all schools, as soon as I know for sure, I will not be attending. If I receive a good finical package from Campbell, most likely, I will withdraw from Ave Maria. All that said, I dont think it would be in my best interest to do so at this moment. I am sorry if that is not the answer you are looking for.

Yes, I live in Fort Myers. No, I was not at the open house: I was out of town. Hopefully I will make the next one. I will keep you informed as to if I will attend or not. I wish you the best of luck and I hope you get in to your school of choice.

Congrats
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on FIU. I applied about a week after you so hopefully I will hear something soon. Just currious, did you go to a big name school(like a top 50 school)? I am just trying to see where I stand at FIU because instate tuition sounds really nice haha.

My bad
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

I just read that you went to Campbell. But still, congrats on FIU!

Saturday, January 03 2009 at 07:00 PM

congrats on your acceptances so far. We are pretty similar in numbers. I was wondering, since you are Arab, were you considered a URM? I'm arab too but unfortunately not counted as a URM. I'm applying to nova as a safety, but I've been looking at LSN and it may be where i might end up going...if they accept me. but good luck on the rest of your apps!

You might find this funny
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

The day after I asked you about FIU and undergrad I received I large packet in the mail from FIU. I was excited because I knew you had recently received your acceptance letter, but when I opened it, it was financial aid information and a view book... I was kinda bummed out hahaha

Another question
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

I checked my online status checker today and it said that a decision has been mailed. Most peoples profiles say that their status checker had an actual decision (as in yes or no) so do you know what it means that my decision is in the mail (besides the obvious haha)?

Sorry bout that
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

Hahaha... yeah I wasnt very specific about the school. It was really just a general question. I found out that because it did not say accecpted or denied, it means waitlisted. Thanks for the congrats. It was really bringing me down knowing that I only had one acceptance letter out of nearly 20 schools haha.

FIU
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

Hey, I was accapted to FIU today. Have you heard anything new from schools?

DePaul
Thursday, February 05 2009 at 07:00 PM

Sorry about DePaul man!

Hey
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

I read as of now FIU is your top choice. I think it is my first choice as of today also. Are you going to their open house on the 14th? What school is your top choice if you could go anywhere? I just thought I would ask because I noticed the trend the other day that I write you more than anyone else and I thought I would learn a little about you haha. As always, good luck in the next few weeks!

FIU march 14
Tuesday, December 30 2008 at 07:00 PM

Hey, what is happening on the 14th? I completed my app at FIU and want to go to any prospective student events. Thanks!! Congrats on all your accepteances btw, you are kicking!!

Letter
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

I heard from them in what I guess people are calling "snail mail". It was a nice letter about how my numbers were strong but this years class is so impressive... you know the deal. But the strange thing was that they asked me to consider transfering in as a soph? Not sure about that one. Are you going to be at FIU next week?

Blah...
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

I know exactly what you mean. I had 3 waitlists and 3 rejections in a row before hearing any new good news. I finally got my scholarship info from Dayton today and I was also accepted to Nova today. I most likely will not end up at Nova, but it was nice to finally get some good news. I am going to attatch my email. Maybe we could meet up at FIU this weekend.

FIU
Friday, February 27 2009 at 07:00 PM

Congrats on your acceptances! Our numbers are about the same and I see you got into FIU, so I hope that means I'm getting in too! Did you apply full-time or part-time? Thanks!

FIU?
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

I tried to call you today during the open house. Where you there? If so, what did you think? Good luck with everything.

haha
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

make that "were" you there

FIU open house
Tuesday, December 30 2008 at 07:00 PM

How did it go today? Did alot of people show up? What is your take on the part timers?? Thanks!!! :-) I called them and i am in review and it could take up to 4 weeks or more. this waiting is killing me.

Sorry man
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

I am sorry about LSU. Keep your head up!

fiu
Tuesday, December 30 2008 at 07:00 PM

FIU will be a regional school for employment so if you plan on living here in florida you are good to go. that is my observation. But campbell has a very good reputation and program too. Some other person who attended the open house told me that they pull seats if those accepted do not put down deposits. did they give any more details on that or on the part time program? I wish i was able to go, i have so many questions but i am afraid to call and piss someone off!!!

LSU bah humbug!
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

Yeah I was a little surprised to find out that I was flat-out turned down also. A waitlist allows you to keep more dignity haha. About the Campbell/FIU thing. I think no matter how you look at it, both schools are regional schools. I went to undergrad and grad school in North Carolina, so I have a pretty good feel for Campbell (not as good as you of course). I have a friend who goes to law school at Campbell and she seems to like it. In my research and expierences, I would say both schools are each others equal just in different states. All of my friends from NC with 3.0-3.4 and 152-156 go to Campbell, just like those from Florida go to FIU. Wake, UNC, and Duke are like Miami, FSU, and UF. And Central is like Nova or Barry I ran track and cross country in college and I visited the school for an XC meet of two and I thought the campus was really nice. Outside the Univ, Buies doesnt have a lot going on. Then again, I went to school in a town with something like 10,000 people. I am looking at it the same way you are though. I am hoping to get in Elon and get a scholarship there. If it happens, I will be just as confused as you haha. For me I know it will come down to where I want to live and what the diploma will look like on my wall. I still say go with your heart because in the end some things mean more than money, scholarships and where you are working. Plus with as much money as you will be spending no matter where you go, you might as well get as much bang for your buck as you can! In conclusion get into UF and pay $11,000 a year for a T50 school haha Sorry I wrote so much again

Hey man,
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

Any news?

Haha
Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

Thanks, I knew it had to be something simple like that.

thanks
Tuesday, January 27 2009 at 07:00 PM

Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

Friday, February 27 2009 at 07:00 PM

Thank you for the well wishes... I have absolutely no patience.... I really hate waiting... I can't imagine how I would have been had I applied earlier. Well I see that you are attending FIU, hopefully I will see you there!!!

I hope i see you there. Im on the part time program!! Whoo Hoo!!!!

Sunday, January 25 2009 at 07:00 PM

Did you get the same lovely postcard that I received hahah? But for some good news (if you are a sports fan)... FIU just hired Isiah Thomas as the head basket ball coach! I am excited... although it really has nothing to do with law school. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4065658 and... http://www.fiusports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=49079&SPID=4764&DB_OEM_ID=11700&ATCLID=3719465

Hey - W&L emailed me on Thursday asking me if I was still interested in attending, then emailed me on Friday to let me know I was in. I never sent in any LOCI's or anything like that.

Thanks!

Good luck to you as well!

FIU
Friday, August 15 2008 at 08:00 PM

Hey I just saw on here you were going to attend FIU and I wanted to know why you chose it over all your other schools. I am really trying to decide between FIU and Michigan State and I would like to hear any info about the school I can. Did you visit, how was the faculty, do you know alumni, just any info that would be great! Thanks
