This kind of happened to me except with Florida Coastal. They sent me a couple of emails saying that if I applied I would be accepted with a 10,000/year scholarship. This is what I think is happening for you with Arkansas LR. Of course, I don't think it is binding on their part so who knows
Hey, I sent an addendum to them about getting a graduate TA position at UPenn. Then I toured the school and met with the director of recruitment. good luck with your apps!
What you wrote makes since. I am just not one who likes to wait for much anything. The wait-game, it kills me.
I have no idea what the index stuff is. I think that there is a way you can take your index and compare it to schools, but I have never been able to understand it, good luck with the rest of your apps
several law schools compute an index based on your gpa and lsat: index = gpa * x + lsat * y + c the exact values and meaning varies from school to school, but it helps them rank applicants for their own purposes, hope that helps
I went to Campbell University in North Carolina. I was in the Army when I did my undergraduate work and I was a Defense Intelligence Analyst for the DOD. I mostly focused on that in my personal statement and resume. I wish you the best, and if I can help you at all, please let me know.
the index here is the same as the particular law schools use (formulas are available on lsac website somewhere). you can't really use it to compare across law schools, more to compare within a single school. a 2.9 at two different schools indicates that they use similar formulas (or the same formula) to calculate your index, but how it ranks you among the rest of their applicant pool varies by who applied to what school. the same number doesn't mean the same thing to different schools.
I am sorry to hear that. Actually, I had a similar experience with Richmond. I had received three letters from the all in one day. Each of which looked as if it might contain that glorious acceptance letter. Instead, each of them was a thank you letter from different student organizations.
Good Luck! I'm applying at IUPUI as well and hope to see you get a lot of acceptances.
We have a similar profile (with grad school). Accepted at UALR... Aaron sure is a nice guy... asked him for a full-ride and got it. You could try asking the admin ppl with the other accepts and see if they give in.
My status checker at IU-Indy went to "Decision Letter Sent" today as well.. Did your term happen to change from "Fall" to "Summer Opt" as well? I am thinking they may be asking me to matriculate in the summer.
Humm, actually, I am not sure what school you are talking about. Personally, I never had an FIU status checker. As for Nova, they did not have a decision on the checker, they said decision made. Their decisions are viewable online at their Decision Manager on their website. Campbells checker had a decision, admit. I have not received any other status checkers. I hope this helps, unfortunately, the most likely answer is, as you have probably already figured, waitlist. Wish I could have helped more.
Thanks for the reply, hopefully it is good news but we will see. Good luck with your cycle!
Also, congratulations on all the acceptances. So far so good!
I tried calling in to Indiana to find out my status and they said they wouldn't tell me over the phone. You must have got lucky and spoke to a noob.
Well I am from Oklahoma so I sort of just know what I know about TU based on that. Back in the day, like the 80's, TU was a pretty respected law school. And even though the are a tier 4 school now, they still seem to have that reputation. I guess thats something you won't find on their website.
Your posts are extremely helpful as we have applied to a lot of the same schools. I too was weary of the Univ. of Arkansas offer, but applied on faith. While UM is my favorite, I don't think that I would be its favorite. Only time will tell. I hope to hear something from FIU soon!
Congratulations! Yes, I have heard back from some schools. I was rejected at DePaul, Waitlisted at Stetson, and put on hold at Rutgers. Not exactly a good couple of weeks, but, I still think I have a shot at some of the other schools.
Yeah, thats the right date. I applied there off a fee waiver I got over the summer. Answer came through the mail; then a coffee mug came and finally my financial aid information came.
My top choice from the beginning was Washington and Lee. I wish I had applied to UVA, however. Realistically though, it most likely would have been a waste of money. My top 5 were in this order: Washington and Lee, Boston College, Penn State, Richmond, and The UF. Obviously, that has somewhat changed, considering BC rejected me as of today. So I guess I will replace them with Rutgers. LSU is also a good fit for me because (1) I was born in Louisanna and (2) My mother still lives there. Yes, I plan on attending the FIU event on the 14. Perhaps I will see you there.
Wow your #'s give me hope ;-)Our #'s are very similar. Congrats on FIU, I am a Miami native and the tuition rate @ FIU is really making me give them a serious look. I have added you to my watchlist...good luck on your cycle.
They sent the acceptance letter in a large envelope. Scholarship letter came a week later. In between those, they sent me a travel mug.
How did LSU notify you? I am sure things will pick up in your favor soon!
Congrats on your acceptances. I haven't heard a thing from Univ. of Arkansas...I feel a little "left in the wind" by them as well. They offered me the same $10,000 deal also, I wonder if they will waitlist me. I saw where your Nova status checker said "decision made". On the page where you would normally check your application status, there's a link titled "Decision Manager" click on that, enter in your NSU ID No. (they should have emailed it to you a few weeks back - it starts with an N) and your decision letter should pop up. Good luck to you!!!
Yes, I will be attending the FIU event on the 14th. Will you? I have been on a waitlist streak as of late. The latest was Penn State.Arghh.
How did that go today? Did alot of poeple show up? Was there alot of part time people there? I called and they said it was only open to people who were accpeted but they will have another one in a month for the next "round". which i am hoping i am. are you going part time? Thanks!! As you can tell the waiting is killing me!!
Hey, I had forgotten my phone in the car. I tried talking to a few guys to see if you were them. The event was a little to structured at the beginning and i got caught up in conversation with one of the professors at the very end. I will try to call you tomorrow in the evening. I am interested in hearing someone else's perspective. I am sorry for the miscue.
Thank you very much you said a mouthful and i re3ally appreciate the insight. I look forward to being class mates. even part time, our paths will cross as i plan to accelerate in the summer classes and a day class here and there. i have the flex to do sowhere i am owrking. And yes, those in your batch who are picked have to put a seat deposit down or they are pulled, that is a fair system and that makes sense why i will wait up to 4 weeks for a decision and also makes sense for what they call the rolling admissions. Thank you VERY much :-)
Hey! My name is gee and I went to the FIU Reception yesterday as well! How did you like it?
How was the open house at FIU? I still haven't heard a word from them. I'm really interested in finding out how they treat part time students. Coastal was a pleasant surprise. It wasn't on my radar, but at this point it may be the logical decision for me as nobody else is throwing money my way. I'm supposed to get my scholarship package this week. I requested an increase and after my conversation with the admissions folks I feel confident that I may have received one.
Thanks for the insight on FIU. Keep your head up with regard to the Waitlists...I'm pretty sure you'll be hearing from a few of those schools again before it's all over with. I know you still have a few outstanding, are you leaning more towards any particular school?
How did Arkansas-Fayetteville inform you of their decision.......email, letter?
Villanova will change their mind. You have good numbers and a strong graduate history. I would write them a letter emphasizing your strong points and your committment to their program. Send it directly to the admissions dean via fax or email. Dig deep! It'll pay off!
I would write the letter and send it in and then follow up with a call to confirm receipt. When you call, it's not like you're going to be able to speak directly to the dean anyway. The person that you'll likely get will be someone who's tired of us crazed "wannabes" tying up her phone line. Good luck to you!
Thanks for the well wishes! I'm trying to stay optimistic, but the way my cycle has gone, it has definitely been tough. Good luck with the Villanova waitlist! Hope you get in off of it!
Congrats on Dayton$$ and Tulsa. No decisions yet. My parents like Temple's rep (I'm from the East Coast). Wisconsin is an amazing academic institution(I thrice visited). I'm thankful for both great choices. I will most likely select based on cost.
I've lived in Hampton Roads my entire life so it lets me stay in the area.
Hey, I actually did not do anything special to get into Villanova. Just sent in my app and 3 letters of rec. I guess the things that stood out to them on my resume were varsity swimming at BC and working one summer at the DA's office. Also being Hispanic Im sure helped my cause. If I were you Id send out a LOCI (letter of continued interest) as soon as you can outlining why nova is your top choice. Another thing you could do is call admissions and try to set up a meeting/visit to demonstate your level of commitment to them. Well I hope this helped you out a little bit. If you have any questions I guess just shoot me another line. peace
I was actually a little suprised to be outright rejected from LSU. O well. Thank you though.
Thank you for all of your advice. I will definitely do all of those things. I also appreciate your kind words at the end. So thank you once again.
Im almost positive that Im going to Villanova next year. Hoping to get off the Wake waitlist but even if I do the money at Villanova is too good to pass up. Im also waiting on U Houston but unless they give some kind of scholarship Ill be ruling them out too. So with any luck Ill be seeing you at Nova next year!
haha no problem. Well, I truely enjoyed the entire presentation of the school. I will be sending my deposit in for FIU. However, as you can see I have a slew of schools I am still waiting to hear back from. lol so who knows where I am going to end up attending. Regarding UM, I didnt even apply because I knew if I were accepted to both I would choose FIU. I guess I would keep my name on the waitlist. It couldn't hurt. Hope it helps :) & thanks for the FIU Feedback. Good luck with the rest of the schools!
Nova is a great school if you want to work in Ft.Lauderdale or south florida. FIU is new and upcoming, but they are lacking alumni base, however, their tuition is favorable if you are willing to take the risk. New Mexico and Nevada are both great schools and they don't compete with much in their regions, you would def enjoy the cities and the good job prospects if you get in. And congrats on being placed on the waitlist for Villanova!! Nice cycle, and goodluck with the rest of your apps and the waitlist!
Rejected at UF. No suprise there, however, it still sucks. Still FIU is in the lead. I have all but decided to not pay my deposit at Campbell. FIU has way more clinics and the summer in Spain sounds wonderful.
I was not signed in when I wrote that last one...
hey congrats on teh decision. I really hope we can be classmates, i know the part and full time do interact. I have not heard anything from them but i hope i am revciwed in the next round when they assess all the w/d's adn seats pulled. :-)
do you think i should call and check my status or just wait it out?
The reason you can't sign in: you signed in on another computer and forgot to sign out! I did the same thing, it took me a week to figure it out. Just figure out which computer you were on, sign on, and then log off. Problem solved. Hope that helps.
i appreciate it man. since i still haven't heard, i am pretty sure i'm going to be at fiu next year. so you will likely see me haha, look forward to probably meeting you too.
I see you too have made a final decision! I know you will do well there. It became less stressful once I set my sights on Florida Coastal. I'm no longer pacing the floor at night. If something else comes along, then so be it. The school itself was awesome. However, it sure didn't help once I discovered it only took me 15 minutes to make it to the beach. Good luck!
Sorry about Elon. However, as of now, we are soon to be 1Ls at FIU together. I called to decline all of my remaining schools "save the wait lists" to tell them that I will not be attending. When I called Nova they asked me to reconsider and wait for my scholarship offer to arrive. They extended my date until the 17th.
Thanks for the info. I hope u are right in that FIU won't turn me down. I applied PT because I have to continue to work full-time while in law school. I hope I hear back soon from them, but I am scared that I will get waitlisted because it is so late in the cycle.....
hey thanks for your feedback and yes i have read your sharing that you were told the same thing. i know it is recited one line they tell everyone. I am also taking into consideration this is a holy week for many people and maybe offices are not as full this week at the admissions. Thanks. Keep me informed of any more insight you may come across in the blogs. So i am just waiting. :-)
Ok verbatum to what happened to you. I called, they tell me 6 to 9 weeks adn the following week i was in. Must be some secret trick, to call one month after completion!!!!
Taken out of the hold group at Miami!...Then thrown right into the waitlist bunch! O the joy of wait, wait, wait, and wait.
fsu still hasn't let me know, i'm about 90 % sure i'll be at fiu now. and how did nova contact you about those grants and stuff if you don't mind me asking?
haha those sneaky nova people.
yup! I got the smame card.
Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, the word stressful does not begin to describe what this process has been like for me. I am really hoping to get off of a waitlist, preferably Loyola's, but I would be content with any of the three at this point. I actually didn't apply to FIU because I have no interest in practicing law in FL. The only reason I applied to UF is because it is my undergrad and my mom begged me to, since tuition is so cheap for in-staters. I was born outside of FL and have been trying to get out of FL since... oh, about middle school. lol So now I have no choice. I am actually going to start sending out job apps and grad apps next week though, since getting off of a waitlist is anything but a sure thing. I figure if I don't get off of a waitlist, I have time on my side, since I am graduating in 3 yrs instead of 4. Plus, it would be a novel concept if I could get a job, go to work every day, and then come home and be able to do whatever I want and not have to study for an additional few hours. I'm trying my hardest to look on the bright side in case things don't work out. But I'm glad to know someone is rooting for me! What about you? If you get off of any of your waitlists, would you go to say, Miami, over FIU? But that must be a hugh sigh of relief to have put a deposit down somewhere! Thanks again for the kind comment!
the one from last year is the one i used, they do not have anything posted for 2009 class as of yet. i think they post it all when we are oriented OR the syllabi are avail after we get a student number etc. :-) this is way too exciting!!!
i agree. its a joke...naw no word on fsu, about 99 percent sure i will be at fiu.
Hi! I'll definitely be there in the fall so we will be classmates.
hey man, did you get a graduate grant from your fafsa or separate? i got one from filling out fafsa which cut my tuition in half as well and is awesome.
I also got a 5K grant. I dont know if mine is renewable or just a one shot deal?
I have the email from undergrad. Just graduated from FIU. But, do you know when we start registering or when orientation is?
yea for sure, thats awesome. fsu still hasn't let me know, im 99.9 percent sure i'll be at fiu even if i do get in there, im pretty set on it.
haha yea i mean im gonna have debt from living expenses but its still cheap man, you can't beat the price
Have you heard anything else from Louisville?
Thanks! We sure are classmates! But I am going part-time...lol... so if you are going full-time, you'll finish a year before me. LOL.
Hey my name is Ryan and I was just accepted into FIU. I am really trying to decide between them and Michigan State which are two very different options. I am from California and know next to nothing about Florida and I wanted to know what Miami was like and how the community at FIU was. Have you had chance to visit the school and what is your general feel of it. Is it in a good part of Miami or on the outskirts and also do you know any alumni from the school? Do the majority of graduates stay in the Miami area. Sorry I just have a million questions, if you can just e-mail me back with why you chose FIU I would really appreciate it. Ryan Thanks, Ryan
Sorry I have been away from this site for a while. I actually just found out yesterday! Literally 7 months after I applied. I did not get in, but at this point I was focused on being a golden panther anyway, so now if it wasn't before it is 100 percent official.
Thanks for the warm welcome...we are trying to get a bar night together before orientation in Miami for those who are able to attend...With FIU being so new, we're going to have to REALLY depend on each other for networking even more than other schools...so we should all get together and start forming these lifelong bonds...if youre interested email me and I'll get with you with the details...anybody else who is attending FIU in the fall is more than welcome to contact me at flhealth@yahoo.com
Thanks! Congratulations on your acceptance and decision as well. I am a bit hesistant to turn FSU down at this point, but I feel like FIU is a real up and comer with a lot of potential. I have been communicating with a graduate of my undergraduate school who is a 3L @ FIU and he seems to really enjoy it. I think Miami is a much better lifestyle fit for me than Tallahassee. I definitely am looking forward to the upcoming year and think all the FIU students will create great bonds with it being such a small school.
How did Villanova notify you of your rejection? Status Checker? Paul
Sorry, I was not signed in when I wrote the information.
